Oooooooh I'm watching ER on sky Atlantic and its the episode where Curtis Ames kidnaps luka and puts his hand in the vice!

I love ER but Lordy it knows how to ratchet up the tension, I know what happens and I cant watch without something to distract me because the tension is too much! It doesn't help that I ADORE luka. And abbey actually. And Sam. But mostly luka

I miss ER Sad

TwllBach · 18/02/2012 21:10

Stupid iPhone.

...emotionally invested. And I think the writers were superb, even if I think the new characters this season aren't as well developed. I love how every single character is flawed and how they don't try and portray them as heroes who can do know wrong that are confronted by unreasonable patients. I think it's brilliant that the nurses can come across as brusque and the doctors as though they won't listen occasionally.

I always think of Archie as brilliant. I think they underplay him and let others like carter, kovac, Pratt and gates overshadow him with their machismo and their brilliance, while he has slowly come in to his own and showed much more emotional maturity than the others and than he's given credit for.

It does feel a bit like season 15 is just an extended farewell, with all the nods to previous seasons and the guest appearances, but I like that. I like that they can laugh at themselves and they give their viewers the chance to say goodbye - I sort of think they deserve it Grin

I also think that they have set Grady up as the new Carter. I don't know why I think that.

Ouch - as heroes who can do no wrong Blush

How good was that last episode!!! .( have never seen it before ) why o why don't they bring it back

TwllBach · 21/02/2012 22:03

They say that it mirrored the pilot episode and that's why carter has that moment where he says "weirdest sense of de ja vu" or something similar. I remember watching it the first time round and hoping that it all exploded or something dramatic, but I'm so glad it didn't. It was a lovely way to end

I want to watch them all again!

I got into ER about 6 years ago when I was PG/on mat leave with More4 showing them all over the place, and episodes missing.

So when the last 2 (?) series were on I was glued.

When Pratt died

Wish More4 would show them again. From the early eps too.

Anyone got any box sets they're willing to lend me...promise I'll post them back Grin

EightiesChick · 21/02/2012 22:21

Yay for the re-run of the reruns, starting Thursday! Valpolicella hopefully it will be another complete rerun so you'll get them all that way.

I have also been watching while Atlantic did this rerun and have so enjoyed it. I've always been more of a fan of the earlier stuff, but I must say, I've liked these last 2 series more on a second viewing. At the time I was going to reluctantly give it up at the end of season 14, but when I heard season 15 would be the last, decided to stick with it. Archie is just great by then, and I enjoyed all the nice cameos. They worked the Mark Green thing in very cleverly (plus Romano got into that ep too!) and I liked Carole telling Doug that the kidney was donated to 'some doctor', not knowing it was Carter. Smile

I'm glad that they seem to be going back to one episode a day, though. 2 a day has been too much, and it's better to savour it - plus easier on the Sky+ box Wink

Valpollicella · 21/02/2012 22:27

Which channel Eighties?? Where did you hear that?? More4 or Atlantic?

(Sorry. Lots of questions. Im not desperate to rewatch them. No no no.... Much.)

I dont have Atalntic so will be either well miffed or try to find a sympathetic local MNer who also loves ER to invade go over to theirs to watch it Grin

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 21/02/2012 22:35

It's Sky Atlantic, I had to give up last time because I couldn't keep up, if it's only once a day I might do it. I've never seen the first few series, got into it about halfway through, so I'm really excited.

Valpollicella · 21/02/2012 22:39

Bugger.

Right. I need to find a sympathetic ER MNer then...

I'll bring Wine Grin

TwllBach · 22/02/2012 06:19

I got a bit choked last night when the 'oldies' were saying goodbye in that little circle and again when all the ER staff poured out ready for the next trauma. How many years has it been since it finished? It can't have gone on longer than 2006 because that's when I left for uni and I definitely watched the last episode at my mums. About six years ago? that makes me feel so old

OP posts:
EightiesChick · 22/02/2012 08:45

No it finished in 2009, TwllBach. Have just checked the date on one of the very last eps on the sky box. [not so old emoticon]

TwllBach · 22/02/2012 10:24

Really? Only two/three years ago?

Just watching last episode on sky+, using spare muslin to wipe tears away, tissue wasn't enough! :(

Have got the box set but been religiously watching/recording it, DH just doesn't understand...

It's not Euphemia - it starts from the very beginning tonight Grin

I know it isn't the same and that technically it is over but I can't think about it like that Blush

I'm so excited - I've never seen the first seven/eight series. Although... I'm sure I remember the final episode of one season where the ER was quarantined because of a plague epidemic or something, and Abbey was definitely there so it wasn't the anthrax ep with Tony and the interns. The beginning of the next season was with Abbey all sweaty and finally being allowed out...

Look at ye olde worlde ER! And Susan Lewis looks so different! The rooms are tiny and jerry only has a tiny desk!

OP posts:
WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 22/02/2012 19:00

My first ever episode was guest starring Ewan MacGregor as an armed robber holding up a convenience store with Nurse Hathaway in it, so I've missed a few series too.

TwllBach that is season 7 or 8 you're remembering, I'd say. Abby first appeared in season 5/6 and this was a bit later when she'd become a central character. You have lots to look forward to!

Grin at 'ye olde worlde ER'. Plus everyone looks so young (yes, Clooney, I mean you).

TwllBach · 22/02/2012 21:32

I didn't realise that Mark Green said the 'set the tone' thing first. He must say it to carter who will then, in over ten years time, say it to Archie. I'm going to enjoy this, I'm feeling like I'm going to get an education Grin
