All new glitterball-y thread just in time for the semis Smile

OP posts:

I don't see why it matters that Chelsee isn't particularly articulate verbally. It's how she expresses herself through dance that matters (to me anyway) and what I love about her is that she has clearly fallen in love with dance. So what if she struggles to put that into words?

WhatsWrongWithYou · 12/12/2011 13:31

Well, as far as her intelligence goes, I wouldn't want her performing brain surgery/teaching my children/completing my tax return, but she's entertaining me beautifully, so I don't mind her apparent lack of grey matter.

And some of the 'intelligent' competitors are a right pita.

< disclaimer: wouldn't want myself doing any of the above either Grin >

AriesWithBellsOn · 12/12/2011 13:34

I am very belatedly asking this, but what are the differences between a Viennese Waltz and a Waltz? I thought the whole 1-2-3 waltzing thing originated in Vienna anyway.

noddyholder · 12/12/2011 13:35

Strictly filming at dp work today I am tempted to go tehre and make a nuisance of myself in front of harry Grin

AprilAl · 12/12/2011 13:45

Aries a waltz is much slower than a VW. The full name of a waltz used to be slow waltz

Think Viennese waltz = pacy and whirly
Waltz = slow and graceful

AprilAl · 12/12/2011 13:48

Oh another thing, in a true Viennese Waltz you must always be turning in one direction or the other or changing direction - hence the whirlyness. A Waltz has several progressive steps e.g. chasses which are danced in a straight line

ScatterChristmasCheer · 12/12/2011 13:51

Yep, Viennese waltz you can count as one in a bar, (English) waltz you couldn't. Hang on, I'll find an example.

. You should be able to count 1-2-3, 1-2-3 easily. . If you watch their feet, you can see the 1-2-3 in the step, but it would be too fast to count.
annaje · 12/12/2011 14:26

OK - so what are your fav dances to watch

mine : Ballroom = Viennese Waltz
Latin = Argentine Tango

ScatterChristmasCheer · 12/12/2011 14:30

Oh, that's such a hard question!

Ballroom: Quickstep/ quickstep based American Smooth (but I love them all really)
Latin: Jive

annaje · 12/12/2011 14:34

excellent choices Grin Scatter. And ones you don't like? Mine is really only the Samba. No one ever makes that look good.

AriesWithBellsOn · 12/12/2011 14:43

Thanks for answers.

My fave dances? Hmmmmm....I love the quickstep. And I love a romantic waltz. And I love an elegant foxtrot. Everything ballroom Grin

Latin - paso definitely! I don't like jives and silly stuff that doesn't look hard!

AriesWithBellsOn · 12/12/2011 14:44

PS I think you must be a Brazilian to make a samba look good. Nothing else will do.

annaje · 12/12/2011 14:49

I love the romance of the Viennese Waltz - it's such a beautiful twirly dance. Yes, you definitely have to be Brazilian to make the samba look good - and I wish they wouldn't dress the men in that awful salmon pink colour when they do it. Even DH looked up for 5 seconds from his iPad to comment on the colour of Jasons shirt lol.

ScatterChristmasCheer · 12/12/2011 14:54

Yes, samba is hard to make it look good. I can't think of that many good ones off the top of my head, whereas most dances I can think of at least two or three I enjoyed.

Though I would probably say my least favourite is 'poorly danced, whilst looking very awkard rumba', often a week one favourite Grin

AprilAl · 12/12/2011 15:19

Favourite ballroom would be a toss-up between tango and quickstep, although it's a tough choice as I love them all.

Favourite latin would be jive (which is not easy by any stretch of the imagination aries, the trick is making it look easy Wink )

I also love the Argentine tango (the pedant in me has to point out that it's not an official "latin" dance - apologies for that) and the charleston is always fun to watch.

Least favourite would have to be rumba as it's usually more cringeworthy than sensual, I'm not a huge fan of the samba either, but in that respect I think I'm slightly biased by the fact that I really don't enjoy dancing it.

AriesWithBellsOn · 12/12/2011 16:28

God I know it's not easy! As my own attempts at dancing anything prove.

SantasCave · 12/12/2011 16:46

Hmm, of the 10 main dances I love a good Tango and a Rumba, though the Rumba must be danced well (not just lots of posturing).

Zoe ball did a very good Samba back in the day. Samba is the dance that has surprised me the most when learning, I've found it much easier than I thought. Jive is still my weak-point, though I seem to have hit a learning curve in the last few weeks and got all my Silver figures mastered.

megcleary · 12/12/2011 16:57

I loved what Artem was trying to do with the charlseton who would coped with it better than a knackered Holly bless her!

TheHumancatapult · 12/12/2011 18:44

A/t and the quick step

But watching it takes two and really is intresting how Jordan cones across with Alex and love how gracious she is about fact she went out .

EdlessAllenPoe · 12/12/2011 19:40

I think Chelsee is a delight. i don't care that she doesn't appear to be brain of Britain - how relevant is that to her dancing ability?

I love that she can be a real lady doing a waltz, or an American smooth..and then be so girlish that i just want to give her a motherly cuddle :)

Animation · 12/12/2011 19:59

Who's Jordan?

ScarlettG · 12/12/2011 20:00

Sorry if it's already been mentioned....(this thread is so long!) ...but can anyone tell me who the 3 x world champion dancers were who show-cased before results on Sunday? Have not been able to find them on Youtube - they were just amazing and were the best part of the show for me.

Marlinspike · 12/12/2011 20:13

Can I just point out that the pro paso on Sunday was danced to "paint it black" by the Rolling Stones.... THE VERY SAME DANCE/SONG CHOICE THAT I PICKED AS MY FANTASY STRICTLY DANCE IN AN EARLIER THREAD!

I like to believe that the strictly production / choreography team are reading these threads!

BTW, would have danced my fantasy with Pasha, James or Artem (even tho he's a tad moody)

Great final line up - will probably watch on recorded Tv later so I can FF through Brucie, Jason's earnestness and Tess

ScatterChristmasCheer · 12/12/2011 20:21

Animation, it's James Grin (As an aside, my brother used to be at school with either an Oliver Thomas, or a Thomas Oliver. It took us three years to work out which Grin, as half the teachers used surnames rather than christian names.).

Scarlett do you mean the dance with the three ladies in pink?

Animation · 12/12/2011 20:45

Ahhh - thanks Scatter Xmas Smile

I missed Takes Two - but James seems fond of Alex so I can imagine he was attentive.
