[sweeps into a contra-check]

New thread, mark your places for tonight's show Grin

OP posts:
AvadaKedavra · 29/11/2011 17:33

Yes I had seen a magazine interview with Lulu saying they'd had "difficulties" as they were so similar in temprement.

Have to say haven't been religiously watching ITT as Zoe Ball generally annoys me, but after seeing it for 2 weeeks now I don't miss Claude at all [ducks]

Looking forward to Movie Week :)

I heard that Chelsee may be dancing to something from Shrek??

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 29/11/2011 18:06

Avada, wash out your mouth with soap! I do like Zoe, but seeing Claudia on the results show just makes me remember how nuts and genuinely original she is. Sad

Someone told Chelsee on Saturday that she was going to be Shrek's wife and that she is green. She didn't appear to have been previously briefed about this. Grin

AvadaKedavra · 29/11/2011 18:06

I don't dislike Claude Grin I think that she should do the whole results show on her own in fact :p

AvadaKedavra · 29/11/2011 18:42

Forgot to post last night, loving the pro challenge this year, trying to break the record for the most botafogas in 30 secs - Natalie Lowe has terrible toes though [boak]

Snowstorm · 29/11/2011 22:28

I never used to 'get' Zoe before and thought her over-rated but having watched her on ITT she's really grown on me and I think she's doing a really good job of it, I don't miss Claudia at all now actually. All the pro's and celebs seem to really like her/feel comfortable with her too, which has got to be a good thing.

Snowstorm · 29/11/2011 22:29

Get rid of Bruce (P L E A S E ..........) and let Tess take over (she's better on her own as opposed to a simpering side-kick) with Claudia and Zoe gets to stay on ITT ... Sorted!

ScatterChasse · 29/11/2011 23:17

Oh has that been on Mondays Avada? I haven't seen that, and it sounds good!

I've been struggling to watch this year, and never get around to catching up properly! I always watch Tuesdays though for Karen, and Wednesdays for Ian, and then Fridays if I can. I'll have to start watching Mondays now.

AvadaKedavra · 29/11/2011 23:43

It started this week ScatterChase, Aliona and Natalie have taken part so far - Natalie got 63 with no disqualified botafogos ?sp? and Aliona today got 64 with 5 disqualified.

They've got a proper Guinness World Records bod there and everything

ScatterChasse · 29/11/2011 23:51

Oh, I'll have to watch that, thank you Grin Glad I haven't missed any so far then.

I loved the dance mat one a couple of years ago, Lilia's face when she got 0 was absolutely priceless. I shouldn't laugh, but it was remarkably similar to Ola's when she went out of the swingathon...

ScatterChasse · 30/11/2011 01:56

Not being snippy here, but it actually came up that Aliona's specialities are salsa, hip hop and jazz.

Why couldn't they choose somebody whose specialities fall within the remit of the programme, ie. ballroom and latin just in case you've forgotten BBC

Clayhead · 30/11/2011 13:27

For those that didn't hear Robbie Savage on 5 Live on Sunday, The Guardian covers it today (IMO very accurately).

You didn't need to know anything about football to connect with Sunday night's 606 Football Phone-In (5 Live). And you didn't need to like phone-ins, with their tendency towards oppositional points, roughly argued. In this special edition of the programme, hosted by Darren Fletcher and Robbie Savage to mark the death of Gary Speed announced earlier in the day, it was all about consensus and catharsis.

It was a remarkable and very moving hour's broadcast of shared memories, funny stories, and tears ? many, many tears. Most were from Savage, who kept breaking down as he spoke about his friend, team-mate and manager, his words wobbling then slipping away as he cried. "When you finish football," he told Fletcher, "you lose people, but not him." He remembered hearing about Speed's death in a phonecall that morning. "I, physically, I, I was retching. I even tried his mobile, thinking it can't be right, and it rang out," he said, dissolving again.

It wasn't just Savage. Listeners who had met or just watched "Speedo" called in with their anecdotes and a need to talk about it all. There was only one female caller in the hour; otherwise it was men being affectionate and warm and supportive to each other.

One caller sweetly rebuked himself ("I forgot my manners") for launching into a memory of Speed before offering his condolences to the family. Many praised Savage while noting that ordinarily it would be sparring talk about the weekend's games.

Thanks partly to the fact that the show went out as the story was still reaching people ? before speculation or front page headlines could get to it ? it had a rawness and warm male camaraderie that you don't often hear on radio. The programme ended with both Fletcher and Savage in tears, having done their work in celebrating Speed and leaving listeners with happy personal and footballing memories of him, poignantly intensified by the shock of the day's news.

Lovely post Clayhead. Thank you.

Bossybritches22 · 30/11/2011 13:40

awwww Clayhead thanks. As I said I'm not a footie person at all so would've missed that, but it shows a depth to Robbie's personality I hadn't suspected before.

Sounds like a fitting tribute to a lovely if troubled man.

I hope Robbie can dance his socks off on Saturday in his memory.

AvadaKedavra · 30/11/2011 14:17

[sniff]

Clayhead · 30/11/2011 14:49

Oh no, I hoped there would be more space - it's copied and pasted from The Guardian, not me!! Blush.

Bossybritches22 · 30/11/2011 15:45

Clayhead

I presumed that it was a quote .....s'ok!! Grin Thanks for posting it!

HarrietJones · 30/11/2011 19:54

Just bumping this back up my threads, nearly lost it!

Snowstorm · 30/11/2011 22:34

Do the pro's choose their own music or are they given it - does anyone know? I was just under the impression that they were given it, without any kind of choice and therefore just did their best with it for whichever dance they were trying to fit it to that week. This would explain (in my little SCD world) why Len complained about Artem's music on Saturday (can't remember what the name of the dance was that they did) and Artem said (in a tight lipped kind of way I thought) that he was given no choice but to try and choreograph something that complimented the music (or that kind of thing).

ScatterChasse · 30/11/2011 23:01

Well, I thought we once saw Camilla and Tom open an envelope which had the name of their tango music in, but people have changed their music before now, and somebody was saying on ITT (I think) that when they listen to a song, they think about what will fit, so I'm not sure Confused

I think they probably choose their own though, as some of them always choose a similar style for a dance (eg. Erin or Natalie would almost definitely do Cole Porter-style for a foxtrot, whilst the Jordans quite often use pop).

Not very helpful I know Grin

AvadaKedavra · 30/11/2011 23:03

Last year on ITT Dave Arch - minus his wonderful band! was on and said the music is decided months before the show, but that's all I remember sorry.

ScatterChasse · 30/11/2011 23:14

There was one a while ago, Brendan and Sarah Manners (maybe?) where they changed the music halfway through the week, and there was a big flap about changing the costume, but I don't remember than saying anything about the actual music.

AitchTwoOh · 30/11/2011 23:16

afaia the pros and celebs get together and discuss the types of music they like and send in some song ideas and the music team work from there. so they get some input at the beginning, deffo. said so on ITT.

WhoIsThatMaskedWoman · 01/12/2011 07:42

As I understand it the pros submit their choice of music at the beginning of the series and then it gets vetted for rights and whether Davearch can cut it down appropriately to 90 seconds, so they don't always get their first choice and sometimes have to have something else foisted on them.

Snowstorm · 01/12/2011 10:13

Ah - okay, thanks for that. Something I've always wondered about when some of the music choices seem a little unusual ... and not always in a good way!
