Old thread's getting full, so here's a nice new acid-resistant one...

It wasn't the Doctor dying that was a fixed point, it was the Doctor being shot (even though everyone thought he died)

Love, love, LOVED it! :) :) :)

As others have said, I'm sure it was purposeful to make us think of gangers but they sneaked that robot in on Ep2 of the second half and we all forgot until we saw the opening of the finale!

I agree that it was the shooting of the Doctor by River that was the fixed point and that everyone wrongly assumed, that meant he was dead.

Is it set up nicely for a totally unrelated Christmas Special now?

slartybartfast · 01/10/2011 21:16

can anyone tell me was the previous series good?
i missed them all Sad
are they worth buying?

slartybartfast · 01/10/2011 21:19

silly question is spose,
you must all be very biased. Grin

They're only 12.50 on Amazon slarty. I'd definitely recommend series 1 (Christopher Eccleston) though I don't rate the Tennant series so much.

Or do you mean old Doctor Who, Hartnell-McCoy? In which case that's a whole 'nother thread.

AitchTwoOh · 01/10/2011 21:31

it'll be interesting if next season is a more pared-down, more-about-the-actual-doctor-himself kind of a series, getting towards answering the question, iykwim? everyone guessed 'doctor who?' i think, that was obv, but the more fascinating thing is where they can take it.

PotPourri · 01/10/2011 21:31

Hey, wasn';t it listed somewhere that David tennant would be in that last one, and his FIL whatsisname?? Maybe that is the Christmas special - or was it just a made up rumour?? I must admit, I love Matt Smith, but Yummmmm at DT

HarrietJones · 01/10/2011 21:33

He was sort of in confidential?

PotPourri · 01/10/2011 21:35

I liked they way they have built in the romancing between the newest newly weds - loved that.

But I have a question actually. I know River felt compelled to give up her regenerations to sace him and just knew there was a connection - but how come she was so deeply in love with him tonight, when I think that was the first time she had seen him since waking up in the hospital??? So yes, drawn to him etc, but did I miss something?

PotPourri · 01/10/2011 21:38

didn't see confidential yet, but it's recorded so I will catch up on that. So that's it on DT then? Shame, I thought they would build in the few visits to River Song in that incarnation. In the library she recognised DT, so how? No idea how they would weave those earlier visits in mind you....

are the ponds slated to be replaced as companions, then? can't see how they can be back if he's got to keep his head down and if river was never supposed to tell.

PotPourri · 01/10/2011 21:57

I don't think it is as neat as opposingly forwards and backwards, more out of synch. River first met the Doctor in the field, when she was still Mels (her ganger baby self met him in AGMGTW though). The doctor first met River back in the Library just before she died. There were meetings in differing sequence between though

teejwood · 01/10/2011 22:02

Hellooooo everyone!!!!
Finally got Dcs into bed after confidential and had to come here and see what everyone thought.

Have been completely suckered all series thinking it was a ganger but as soon as we saw the teselecta tonight and the captain said "is there anything else we can do?" i thought, ohhhhhh Moffatt you sneaky sod!!!! "It really is the doctor" he said, yeah - protected inside a bloody teselecta version of himself.

Rule 1 - Moffatt lies!! Just like he lied about no daleks this season "giving them a rest" - ummmm - apart from that little cameo......

Anyhooo - still loads of questions from Series 5 never mind 6 - perhaps we'll get answers next season, eh?

Back to tonight - it was a fantastic, enjoyable romp - we can see where the budget went! But I do hope that's not the end of us seeing River and the Doctor's adventures on screen. Alex and Matt have a great chemistry - it would be a shame not to see that again.

potpourri i think River's adoration comes from studying him. who wouldn't love him, with all his heroics, always trying to do the right thing, always trying to save the day? the more she knows, the more she falls in love with him.

maryz the first eps are available on t'interweb, broken up but enough to get you through till the DVD release if you want to revisit the eps now Grin

joyful why are their timeslines in more or less reverse order? Whatever else happens, the day he first meets her, she dies. But as Moffatt said, their timelines are in "more or less" reverse order, so I'm sure he will quite happily slot other adventures in there if he feels like it and as stated above I hope he does Wink

AitchTwoOh · 01/10/2011 22:04

in a way i'm glad that this and torchwood are over for you, teej... this has been like a full-time job for you. Grin

teejwood · 01/10/2011 22:09

aitch i think the rumour is there will be at least some pond/williams love in series 7.

had a Sad at the brig, i have to say... and will find it hard watching SJA with the kids, knowing she was so near the end.

actually - speaking of which - was it just me or was there an RTD-alike who popped out behind Karen Gillan when she was practising her shooting skills Hmm

maryz dailymotion started up as a kind of french version of youtube iirc; it's not on youtube, it's a site in it's own right. just google the ep name and you should find it.

teejwood · 01/10/2011 22:13

bloody hell - its own right
grrrr

PotPourri · 01/10/2011 22:14

Teej - of course that it is. Never looked at it that way - ta

I wonder if SM will ever give the 'saved' River (into the library computer) a saved doctor too - along the lines of a human doctor to grow old with to Rose.

I really hope we see them together again - especially as they will both be married. Their meetings just don't seem like direct reverse order to me. A few episodes ago River knew all about him, but he was just getting to know her (see the kiss before she goes back to prison). Then when she met River (changed from Mels) he knew her as important and had kissed her already, but she was not his wife at that point. Then they have all that being married and falling in love etc to come. It's not like the first time she met him, he had already lived it all, is what I am trying to say. In his case though, the first meeting she had done it all (dying at the end of course).
