OP posts:
MaryAnnSingleton · 30/09/2011 07:40

Floydie-absolutely agree about Jo's little girl voice

BongoWinslow · 30/09/2011 09:39

just out of the blue, am I the only one who thinks Janet looks like Tim Brooke-Taylor?

Husband says no....

peachsmuggler · 30/09/2011 10:18

Ha ha ha OMG Bongo, she really does! You are a genius, that's hilarious!

I think I might have to make some delicious cake in honour of Tuesday's final. Hmmmm

anewmotivatedme · 30/09/2011 11:45

Mary Anne iis my favourite.

jetmonkey · 30/09/2011 16:02

hmmm, off to look at Jo's blog...

ppeatfruit · 30/09/2011 17:54

ladyClarice we definitely have the same taste in T.V. Smile I've just got back from N.Y. so will have to catch up on Sunday.

I believe that about the deep fried butter; In N.Y. (can you tell it was the first time i'd been there) Grin they serve whipped butter instead of cream Shock i've never seen such HUGE cakes with added cream and strawberries (this was the N.Y. cheesecake!) 3 of us could not finish 1 slice!!

I liked Janet shame she's gone. It'll probably be Maryanne to win although she's inconsistent but genius often is isn't it?

BakingHot · 30/09/2011 21:55

Regular namechanger
I am rooting for Mary-Ann.
I am biased as she is a mum at my dc's school. Not only is she a wonderful cook(i have tasted) but a lovely person too.

peachsmuggler · 01/10/2011 09:22

Oooh, pleased to hear Mary Ann is as nice as she seems. If I were you I would have to insinuate into her life proper including weekly trips to her kitchen. Really want to make those melting moment swirly things with the red colouring through them!

ChippingIn · 01/10/2011 10:09

It's so interesting to read other people's opinions of people.

I like Jo and I hope she wins.

I thought Holly's comment was funny & true. I like her.

Mary Ann to me seems very self opinionated and show -offy - I haven't taken to her at all. (Sorry if you are reading this - I'm sure it's all the editing!).

Whatever the outcome, I hope Jo gains some self confidence & goes on to do something she loves!

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 01/10/2011 12:32

Hi ppeatfruit! Yes, we do seem to bump into each other on a lot of telly threads.

Re: Janet, I thought she looked like Boris Johnson.

ppeatfruit · 01/10/2011 20:10

LadyClarice We have the best taste IMO Smile.Poor Janet; looking like Tim Brooke Taylor and Boris Johnson! I hope she's not a mumsnetter! Shock

I agree about Maryanne's personality though; a bit arrogant I thought, but of course the editing can make anyone seem anything. Apart from gorgeous, if you're not!!

BongoWinslow · 01/10/2011 20:40

well, I fancied Tim B-T in my younger days...

I love Janet! I wish she was my gran.

pointydog · 01/10/2011 20:54

Mary Ann should win. Not an easy, lovable TV character but she has real imagination, knowledge and creativity about her cooking.

Jo is so very mediocre it's a crying shame she's still in it. Holly's ok, I'm just not keen on anal people.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 01/10/2011 21:30

I don't know why Mary-Ann is show-offy? Her skill is in her originality. I doubt even she would say her presentation is her strong point, apart from the mousse cake which was gorgeous. Holly is all about the presentation, no one calls her showy-offy.

ChippingIn · 01/10/2011 21:33

It's her comments not her food that are show-offy. Things such as 'I'm just doing it to show off for the judges - because I can' - I can't actually think of other specific comments but she makes a couple of comments every show that are just 'Aren't I wonderful' - maybe it's lack of confidence who knows, it's just part of why I haven't taken to her.

pointydog · 01/10/2011 21:53

She's not show-offy at all. She's just not a TV-smiley-confident-yet-self-deprecating type of person. Holly screams Mumsnet, doesn't she.

peachsmuggler · 01/10/2011 22:26

Oh no I think MaryAnn's are not show offy. When she has said things to big herself up, I think she has said them in a very self-deprecating way.

Holly's comments about her food are so researched and rehearsed it's painful. Like she is at a job interview, and the way she stares pensively at her stuff before the judges come rounds drives me mental

BTW, there's an extra show, on Thursday I think, where The Salty Dog and Queen Mary Berry give tips on the technical challenges. Woo-hoo!!!

peachsmuggler · 01/10/2011 22:28

Have ordered the book today. Am hoping it arrives on Wednesday morning to coincide with my official mourning period after the final is all over!

MaryAnnSingleton · 02/10/2011 09:04

agree with peach about Mary Anne - I don't think she's being arrogant. Was just about to say about the Master baking programme - hooray !! Ds keeps on at my about making bagels,so have promised to do that at half term. I am making an orange polenta cake next week though.

camdancer · 02/10/2011 10:32

On my epg, it says next week is only 8/11. Does anyone know what the other programmes are? Are they all the master baker ones? I'd like an update about last years contestants.

I've just got the book. I haven't had time to bake anything from it but it looks good. I want to try the coffee and walnut battenburg first.

The Hoff, baking? That would be beyond amazing!

Have just read an article about GBBO (mail, alas) - I did nto realise that the wondrous Mary-Ann has never won star baker? A travesty.

TwoIfBySea · 03/10/2011 22:24

According to Caitlin Moran tomorrow's GBBO episode will be upstaged by a well-endowed squirrel.

Let that be the strangest thing you hear today.

MaryAnnSingleton · 04/10/2011 09:47

arf ! went to find that on twitter Grin

TwoIfBySea · 04/10/2011 11:22

She's reminding folk today - 40 minutes in, must be a memorable squirrel!
