We're in the process of buying an ex local authority house. Our first home at the age of 33. It's costing £220k. Not sure what my point is but there's some indication of a proper big fuckup somewhere in that scenario

Oh & I think it's wrong that people can own a house & have a council house.
And I agree that people should downgrade to smaller houses accordingly.
My bloody monther wanted to stay on in her 3 bed council house when me & my sis had gone. She got ill though & accepted a 1 bed place which suits her needs fine.

You are declared homeless in my area with a letter from your friends/ relatives giving you a notice date. The number of people doing this has gone up a lot recently. Its never checked by the council but I know its abused by some people.

to me, the worst crook in the whole programme was that landlord renting that place out to that young couple, my god it was not just disgusting it was downright dangerous, mould, faulty heating, dodgy wiring and a flooded cellar. £500 a month, you couldn't pay me 5,000 to live in that. he should be locked up, the bastard.

My sister had to get my mam to agree to throw her out so she could get her own council flat. Shocking I know, but it is the ony way she would have got one, and she had her DD then as well.

OTOH, I got my own council flat at 19 without any problems.

My MIL lives in a huge 3 bedroom house with a massive garden. We are trying to pursuade her to move to a smaller property, but she won't.

I have friends who have been waiting for years for a council place. They never seem to get any further up the queue and the places they rent privately are expensive and not maintained properly. The effect of not having stable, affordable housing is awful.

I felt really sorry for the lads sleeping on the sofa. why didn't the mother limit her family to the amount of space she had and the cliche of the sense of entitlement. did anyone work?

Also the subletting was annoying as well.

No mention of immigration putting a strain on housing though just lets blame Mrs Thatcher. I am sure the people who did buy their homes did quite well out of it. did feel it was not that objective.
