Chris O'Dowd's todger! I can't watch the IT crowd in the same way again!

OP posts:
mum2supercharlie · 25/04/2011 21:49

CArolCArol----Hehehe! It's absorbing isn't it! I thought I had a big house to run and a child to school when the episode finished! Hope Him Indoors remained unscathed!

PfftTheMagicDragon · 26/04/2011 07:31

MY favourite parts of the story are the relationships between Agnes, Sugar and Sophie. Agnes and Sophie live these awful lives, yet you would think on the surface that they have things so much better than Sugar. All these women, trapped by men and circumstance with no hope to make things better.

I cried when Sugar gave Agnes all of her saved money and sent her away to stop her being committed Blush

queenceleste · 26/04/2011 11:49

how many episodes are there all together?
Am loving this series, great atmosphere in that house, lovely silent pauses, don't see those very much any more in drama.

But I haven't read the book and am worried about Sugar and whether demonic Richard e grant is going to harm her!

EricNorthmansMistress · 26/04/2011 11:53

Only 4 :(

I too am very worried it's all going to collapse around her next week :(

PfftTheMagicDragon · 26/04/2011 12:19

I wondered if William was going to start shagging someone else, now that he had Sugar in his home. She doesn't have any savings any more - I wonder what is going to happen to her.

Sad I love Sugar. I want her to be all right. sigh. Poor Agnes.

Can't get over IT Crowd blokes' todger and the rest shot from behind. So unnecessary.

SilkStalkings · 26/04/2011 14:38

I think there will be a point though where William decisively shows that he considers her so not human and she has become so softened that she will be devastated. Really hoping somebody gets to stab Dr Curlew by the end, whatever happens to Sugar.

transferbalance · 26/04/2011 14:47

this was recommended by my 80 year old mil

she didn't mention the todger though

transferbalance · 26/04/2011 14:47

will have to read the book now, it's a great programme

NorfolkNChance · 26/04/2011 15:45

Loving this so far and have only managed one episode (DD doesn't need to see todgers and DH will huff if I put it on in the evening!)

Have ordered the book to read after the series is finished.

SilkStalkings · 26/04/2011 16:15

Ooh ooh perhaps she will abduct Sophie to save her but be so consumed with revenge/hatred of men that she becomes Mrs Castaway and the cycle begins again.

queenceleste · 26/04/2011 16:24

anyone else think it unlikely william and sugar would bonk so unselfconsciously with other servants, presumably, not far away?
I know, it's not a documentary...

PfftTheMagicDragon · 26/04/2011 17:04

I'm not sure how much of a secret they are though. I mean, there is pretense at a secret, but it's as if they just don't want to flaunt anything. Everyone knows what is going on. Everyone would probably expect it, and no-one would be shocked. It's just not the done thing to say it out loud.

confuddledDOTcom · 26/04/2011 19:03

In those days you could sleep with anyone as long as it was never spoken about. I'm a fan of Warwick Castle and there's an exhibition around Daisy Greville which talks about it. It has a sign supposed to be from her that says how Maynard's father is supportive, so is her husband. It's also the reason she called off her relationship with Prince Albert (King Edward). It's only scandal if you talk about it or are openly affectionate with someone not your spouse in public.

I've got a 5 hour train journey on Friday, the kids will be watching both Garfield films on the way so I think a trip to Smith's for a book is in order!

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 26/04/2011 20:59

What does everyone think about that scene where Mrs Fox is shown to be back from the jaws of death by consumption? I thought she behaved very oddly at her tea visit with Agnes, and not just because Agnes was spouting all that stuff about the angelic convent. What has Mrs Fox been up to? Was her 'illness' put on or exaggerated? And, you know how a lot of the characters seem to take Victorian Gothic archetypes/stereotypes as a starting point but then veer off in unexpected directions ? if Mrs F was meant to make us think of the high-minded campaigner and the consumption victim, what does she represent or reference now? Sorry if this sounds thick but I haven't read the book and don't know a great deal about Gothic conventions.

It's an excellent series. The woman who plays Agnes is particularly terrific IMO.

SilkStalkings · 26/04/2011 22:15

I did think her earlier coughs before the last-days-glamourously-dying-in-a-hammock scene were a bit funny. She looked at him with every cough, thought it was just ladylike coyness but now it looks more like she was checking to see he was noticing (which he wasn't LOL.) She and her brother are obv out to get what they can from the family but that particular plan backfired.

SilkStalkings · 26/04/2011 22:20

And what the servants heard didn't matter because a) they were lesser beings obviously b) they therefore weren't reliable witnesses and c) their jobs and/or homes were at stake if they weren't discreet. Part of the butler and the housekeeper's roles would have been clamping down on staff gossip. That's why they didn't actually knock on doors - it was assumed that everything within would be above board - to knock would be to suggest something untoward.

queenceleste · 26/04/2011 23:24

respect to your Victorian Grasp Silk!

confuddledDOTcom · 27/04/2011 07:51

I did wonder about those coughs until she was actually dying then I was a bit confused!

Something that's been bothering me. Does he think she's a mistress or is he aware she's he's full time prostitute? He seems to see her as a mistress and I wonder if he forgets. She does the same but it's obviously humouring him.

SilkStalkings · 27/04/2011 08:18

LOL my mum is a historical novelist so have watched a LOT of period drama in my lifeGrin.

Does mistress=love? It's still payment for sex.

So, Silk, what was her plan then if she was pretending to be dying? Was she trying to get money out of him? I can't WAIT for the last episode, but can't watch it tonight cos I'm out :-(

queenceleste · 27/04/2011 09:20

I can't WAIT!
I love this series.

SilkStalkings · 27/04/2011 10:42

I think Mrs Fox was trying to get Henry to marry her then she'd have a miraculous recovery. And maybe poison him if he wasn't up to much in bedGrin.

I think to truly be in love with someone you have to consider them a person and an equal - not sure William has reached that yet. I think she is a clever talking pet and f*buddy.
