Chris O'Dowd's todger! I can't watch the IT crowd in the same way again!

Oh my god, it was all there, in all it's glory. Why am I watching this?!

Frimblypoo · 06/04/2011 21:48

it's very rude for a wednesday night!

Thingumy · 06/04/2011 21:48

Worth watching on iplayer then ladies?

Frimblypoo · 06/04/2011 22:03

Ruddy brilliant! Beautifully shot, can't wait for the next one
Quite shocking even though I knew about the Victorian treatment for 'hysteria'

I do have a soft spot for Victorian smut

I shall watch it tomorrow on the iplayer when I have some peace and quiet

ChickensHaveNoEyebrows · 06/04/2011 22:07

I loved it. Erm, just what was Richard E Grant doing to that poor woman? I suspect Bad Things.

RhinestoneCowgirl · 06/04/2011 22:08

Checking where her 'wandering womb' was...

ChickensHaveNoEyebrows · 06/04/2011 22:10

With his, er, cock? He definitely seemed creepy with his insistence on 'examining' her

RhinestoneCowgirl · 06/04/2011 22:15

No, with fingers I think. There was a Victorian theory that madness in women was caused by their uterus moving around the body Hmm

edam · 06/04/2011 22:37

I was so worried about this. Always dangerous when someone adapts a wonderful book. Was afraid they'd ruin it. But it seemed extremely well cast, shot and produced.

Lead actress was doing a v good job of acting someone who is acting. Great portrayal of bad sex and a woman having to pretend she's in ecstatsy.

MissVerinder · 07/04/2011 09:27

does anyone know if this will be repeated on telly this week? We had a power cut and it interrupted my sky box.... sniff...

PortBlackSandwitch · 07/04/2011 09:36

I really enjoyed it....i haven't read the book. Those poor women who are both abuse victims in different ways...

...the only downside for me was when CO'D's plummy accent slipped occasionally

paulapantsdown · 07/04/2011 09:40

I loved it - it is one of my favourite books and they seem to be doing a really good job with it. Sugar is exactly how I imagined her.

There are some real twists and turns to come!

PortBlackSandwitch · 07/04/2011 09:43

Oooh sounds good ppd Grin

Thingumy · 07/04/2011 15:02

I watched it via Iplayer today.

It is very good isn't it? Beautifully filmed.

I'm not sure of about Chris O'dowd as the leading man though,he didn't quite sit right for me but then I've not read the novel.

sayanything · 07/04/2011 15:05

Oooh have they turned the book into a film then? I don't live in the UK so no clue what's on TV. Loved loved loved the book, all 1657403498 pages of it. Was it on Channel 4 or BBC?

PortBlackSandwitch · 07/04/2011 15:21

here - BBC2

sayanything · 07/04/2011 15:28

Thanks Port. Stupid licensing restrictions mean that iPlayer is "not avaialble in your area". Boo.

edam · 07/04/2011 18:23

I thought Chris O'Dowd was surprisingly good - the character is supposed to be a rather dim hypocrite.

GeorginaWorsley · 07/04/2011 19:31

Did I see what I thought I saw,at one point? IFYSWIM. Grin
Thought there was some rule about showing male parts on tv??

nethunsreject · 07/04/2011 19:37

I was a bit disappointed.

Is it like the book?

Was all high camp gothery and very derivative - is that a deliberate thing?

edwardsbella · 07/04/2011 22:09

i loved it -cant wait for the next one

coldcomfortHeart · 08/04/2011 11:23

I was so looking forward to this and watched it on iplayer- really good, although they have to miss out quite a lot to squeeze it all in to 4 hours. Lots of scabby looking urchin extras and sorry souls leering from doorways, as expected!

edam · 08/04/2011 12:06

nethun - do try the book, it's fantastic. Not derivative at all.

haggis01 · 10/04/2011 15:04

Absolutely love the book and think they have done a great job with the feel of the time. I love Sugar's steampunk style outfits. 2 of my teens watched it with me and they also really liked it - one of them feels especially sorry for the wife and they love seeing "moaning Myrtle" Shirley Henderson in anything.

We love the IT crowd - so it was a bit of a shock to see Chris O'Dowd as William Rackham - too like Roy - just wrong. Also his accent kept wavering - not to Irish but from very posh to a more normal English mumbly accent. Not quite how I imagined WR from the book but will give the benefit of the doubt. Can't wait for the next episode and to see how much of the twists and turns of the book they can cram in.

Had to watch on iplayer though as BBC didn't seem to run an ad campaign for it
