What do you think of this? And when does it start? Could you stand the wait over the summer, or is it a godsend?

OP posts:
AitchTwoOh · 04/06/2011 20:56

of course it's a trick, imo. there is no way the moff would let us all pat ourselves on the back (pace coastgirl) all summer without kicking us up the arse come autumn.

ScatterChasse · 04/06/2011 21:03

I liked the Doctor's smirk at the thought of Amy being his MIL.

And (am going to sound thick here) what was she doing when she said to the Doctor "I am telling you"? Pointing at his name?

coastgirl · 04/06/2011 21:05

I'm sure there are still plenty of twists and turns to come...this is the first time I've ever predicted something and been right though! I can usually come up with all manner of convoluted theories that are blown apart in the first five minutes of the next episode.

I can't stop laughing about "Let's Kill Hitler!". Brilliant.

KayHarker · 04/06/2011 21:05

Naturally there'll be more, and I had a chuckle over Let's kill Hitler, it's true. I just felt not a lot actually happened in the episode and the pay off was a mildly diverting play on words.

KayHarker · 04/06/2011 21:06

Although yay for conspicuous gay couples in the supporting characters.

AitchTwoOh · 04/06/2011 21:10

and prominent bfing, bien sur.

LolaLovat · 04/06/2011 21:12

I also loved the sontarans ability to lactate and nurse a baby Grin

AitchTwoOh · 04/06/2011 21:14

i know, that was hilarious. the 'typical midwives sontarans, wanting to put the baby onto formula' thing entirely subverted. v funny.

BertieBotts · 04/06/2011 21:17

I found it underwhelming in the sense that I think I'd theorised too much perhaps and all the "twists" I'd seen coming, whereas last week was a proper mindfuck with the twists being genuinely shocking even if they HAD been theorised about. And I'd been trying to avoid spoilers too and yet heard the Melody Pond thing and also that we found out who River was in this episode. And there was a lot of plot in this one and not a lot of storytelling. It felt like it moved very fast and was over in a lot shorter than 45 minutes. But in a way I think that's not such a bad thing, the cliffhanger until September isn't a massive huge horrifying one, but lots of smaller questions to ponder on. Why is Rory suddenly dressing as (and being referred to as) the Lone Centurion again? Where and when will they find Melody? Who does River kill? Is she still going to fall in love with the doctor? etc etc.

ScatterChasse · 04/06/2011 21:21

I know. I'm so glad it wasn't a huge cliffhanger because I'm not always terribly patient and might have thought horrible thoughts about the writers

baileyslover · 04/06/2011 21:25

Sorry where was the skeleton with the sonic? Missed that bit!

HarrietJones · 04/06/2011 21:32

Bailey- after the credits

LolaLovat · 04/06/2011 21:33

The little mini trailer at the end baileyslover.

BatsInTheSnowglobe · 04/06/2011 21:34

I missed the whole lets kill Hitler thing! Might actually have to watch it again! Blush

Greenshadow · 04/06/2011 21:35

Does all this mean that Amy never gets to see her baby again until she is grown up?
How sad (but does mean it doesn't interfere with life on board the Tardis.

WhereYouLeftIt · 04/06/2011 21:35

And you think the rest of us won't be anyway, Bats? ;)

LolaLovat · 04/06/2011 21:39

I don't think so green because there was pictures of her with a baby when she was going round that orphanage in the second episode of this series.

iamnotsuperwoman · 04/06/2011 21:49

Loving the whole Mumsnet take on Doctor Who- focus on the breastfeeding and prominent gay couple. I am so not alone.
:)

Flossie69 · 04/06/2011 21:50

Have just watched this. Found the bits where the baby is taken away very difficult, as have a DD who is only 1. Also found the Doctor a little irritating at times. And was I the only one shouting at the screen "Stop messing around and get that child into the Tardis!"

But overall, very good - its a long time till the next episode !!

ScatterChasse · 04/06/2011 21:55

Oh yes, when the baby dissolved I was sobbing along with Amy. I get a bit too involved...

OhYouBadBadKitten · 04/06/2011 22:03

I'm trying not to think of the dissolving baby.

baileyslover · 04/06/2011 22:11

Thanks guys, was watching it in sky plus and stopped atthe credits so I could flip to confidential.

Bit confused re the cot. Alex Kingston seemed to be hiding something about the cot in confidential. If it was only the Doctor's name on the cot, how did he realise who River was. Thought maybe the Galifrean symbols cleverly display the names of all the babies that have lain in there?

Arcadie · 04/06/2011 23:12

And who was "Danny boy"???? Have I missed old episodes? Am I just being tick?

AitchTwoOh · 04/06/2011 23:13

danny boy was the call sign of the bombers. presumably the doc had called in a favour from winnie.

montmartre · 04/06/2011 23:13

I assume that gallifrean names also incorporate one's partner? So it would change once he became involved with River...

I missed the skeleton hand thingy... need to watch the trailer.
