What do you think of this? And when does it start? Could you stand the wait over the summer, or is it a godsend?

Lorna was the one who did the sewing if that's significant

Arcadie · 04/06/2011 20:09

Think the Lorna idea is a goodun. And HURRRAY for Melody Pond/River Song not just being a coincidence.
And DOUBLE hurray for there not being a big "Oh he finds out who I am today" and then leaving it til September to tell the rest of us, I might have thrown a brick at the tv if that'd been the case.

MadameOvary · 04/06/2011 20:10

Why is everyone so sure that the Doctor dies? He looks more like he was engulfed in regenerative energy than killed.
(Disclaimer: I didnt get to watch that episode closely enough so apologies if it's REALLY obvious)
I mentioned to DD's Dad that River was Melody - he was obv annoyed that he hadn't thought of it first Grin

HarrietJones · 04/06/2011 20:13

According to Alex Kingston on confidential it's the Drs name on the cot. Hance River knowing it.

Conceived inside the time vortex is a good one though

WhereYouLeftIt · 04/06/2011 20:18

Am I the only one who sniggered when the Silurian said soothingly 'I don't know why you put up with me.' to her human partner, immediately before zapping the soldier with her metres-long tongue?

mumatron · 04/06/2011 20:19

Madam- he was shot and then set alight and sent out to sea. I think we can be sure he was dead. Whether or not it was the actual dr is another question!

AitchTwoOh · 04/06/2011 20:22

that was a good line. liked the stevie wonder one too.

i am not convinced by the hand strap thing, and never have been. it'd be a pretty shite prison she's in if they don't do a cell search and find that Every Single Time.

BatsInTheSnowglobe · 04/06/2011 20:24

it can't have been the actual doctor surely that would mean the end of Dr Who, unless of course they really would consider making River/Melody the new Dr!

BertieBotts · 04/06/2011 20:24

The doctor's name on the cot? That's cute :)

JuicyLips · 04/06/2011 20:27

I think it is river in that suit, after she shoots the girl in the suit she says "no, of course not." meaning she cant kill herself (presumably, could be wrong though)

LolaLovat · 04/06/2011 20:30

I thought lorna was going to turn out to be Jenny from the "doctors daughter" episode but I guess not ( She's got to turn up again at some point though )

Loved it tonight and so glad we finally find out river is.

The skeleton with the sonic screwdriver I'm worried might be Rory a big thing was made of him having a screwdriver in this episode but then that might of been to make us think it was Rory Hmm

Not sure about the title of the next episode either what was it something like let's kill hitler?

HarrietJones · 04/06/2011 20:31

So maybe the skeleton hand was the dr after he 'died' and resurrected himself with the sonic.

Or the flesh is involved again

AitchTwoOh · 04/06/2011 20:33

that was a GREAT joke, again. huge climax, MASSIVE revelation (well, expected, but all the same, a biggie), cue title music and then 'the doctor will return in the autumn with 'let's kill hitler!'. hahahaha. [the producers emoticon]

BertieBotts · 04/06/2011 20:37

It would have to mean that Matt Smith is the last doctor, if he really is dead, and they can't rewrite time, and there wasn't a clone. But he's contracted until 2013 so we have until then at least Wink

I wonder if they will shift the focus to another character, like River perhaps. If she's part time lord anyway. It would explain why she doesn't care that much about being in prison. If she knows she has a long time to live, a prison sentence is nothing, surely? I have read somewhere that time lords are restricted to 12 or 13 regenerations, and Matt is the 11th, so he's had at least 10 of those, and possibly one or two before we "meet" the first doctor. So maybe they will completely retire this character.

Snorbs · 04/06/2011 20:38

Indeed. After the whole emotional climax, the "Let's Kill Hitler!" bit made me genuinely LOL.

ShuffleBallChange · 04/06/2011 20:41

Oooh yes Harriet, maybe the Dr that died was one of the flesh thingummys. I like the idea of him resurrecting himself, I'm sure all end will be tied in the Autumn. Well they better had, or my head will explode

Snorbs · 04/06/2011 20:41

Even if they do stick to time lords only officially being able to regenerate twelve times I doubt that would actually cause a significant problem. They'd just use it as another massive cliff-hanger plot point and then come up with some timey-wimey stuff to get round it at the last minute.

LolaLovat · 04/06/2011 20:45

Mind you resurrecting himself after dying and being cremated might not be such an impossible thing. The master was able to do it after all.

HarrietJones · 04/06/2011 20:46

The master came back after the doctor burning him.

I'm not concerned about Moffat killing him off permanently. He's waited too long for that job. Wonder if MNHQ asked him for a webchat like we asked?

HarrietJones · 04/06/2011 20:47

X post Lola!

LolaLovat · 04/06/2011 20:48

Great minds Grin

I am working on a theory about River Song being Amy's daughter...
"

I AM A GENIUS and I claim my five pounds Grin

KayHarker · 04/06/2011 20:53

I'm the only one in the house that was a little underwhelmed. I've tried to stay away from spoilers but even I had heard the melody pond, river song thing and that seemed to be the emotional peak and it left me a bit cold. There's still loads we don't know about River and this felt like a bit of a trick - there's so much left unanswered. Hmm, not going spoiler free for the Autumn, it wasn't worth it this time.

AitchTwoOh · 04/06/2011 20:54

well done coastgirl!
i thought the regeneration limit had been done away wiht? on the sarah jane adventures or something?

CaveMum · 04/06/2011 20:55

The Master didn't resurrect himself though, he was resurrected by a group of followers.
I wonder if the Dr has "saved" himself in the Sonic, just as he did River in the Library.
