What do you think of this? And when does it start? Could you stand the wait over the summer, or is it a godsend?

Bertie, scatter I like to think that River's last kiss was not in the Stormcage - she just thinks it was at that point. I just don't buy the linear his first/her last and vice versa (albeit yes the doctor's first meeting with her was her last). And Moffat said in an earlier confidential that as far as he was concerned in his mind River even had further adventures with Doc 10 - we just never saw them on screen. So that's good enough for me

And in my mind, I'd like to think he was loving towards her at their last meeting before the Library, when he gave her the sonic. The other interesting thing he said in that confidential - the square ray gun River uses in the Library episodes once belonged to Capt Jack - she had just pinched it from the Tardis after Capt Jack had left it there at the end of S1. So he does have all these little elements in his head that he can happily use to drive us crazy.
Florence DP handed me that ES at the relevant page and said "This is a bit spoilery". I was like - oh thanks, I'm trying to avoid spoilers!!!

MavisGrind · 30/05/2011 23:15

Now hang on, has no one mentioned (and perhaps I did imagine it afterall) a reference by the Doctor to the Flesh Doctor about being present at a death and not needing an invite???? Am I right in thinking that The Doctor doesn't know that the invite in the The Impossible Astronaut was to his death. So what would that mean?

MavisGrind · 30/05/2011 23:21

Though so - 38 minutes in (and I paraphrase)

"My death arrives I suppose"
"Yes, but this one we're not invited to"

make of this what we will.... Smile

teej · 30/05/2011 23:28

Mavis I think it was a confirmation that he knows (broadly) what happened in TIA.

WhereYouLeftIt · 31/05/2011 00:47

But didn't Amy tell him about her seeing him die when she thought she was talking to the Flesh Doctor?

BertieBotts · 31/05/2011 00:55

teej that's true. And the singing towers thing I imagine was one occasion where they were/are both at the same point in their relationship, for once. No spoilers Wink (Well apart from the massive death one...)

I like the thought of them having lots more adventures off-screen. It does seem like their relationship is going to progress far too fast to be believable otherwise. I mean, if it's supposed to be that they have this all-consuming, marriage-level love, that takes years to develop, and how many times has he met her on screen, about four? I love the storyline but I almost wish it could be a lot more drawn out.

About the invite line. Amy told the real doctor, thinking he was the flesh one. The line was a confirmation that he was indeed the one who knew, and the flesh doctor said "Pardon?" as though he didn't understand why the other doctor had said that - so he didn't know.

Though there are theories flying around the internet that there are 3 doctors and one of them is the 1103-year-old one. But let's not confuse things even more!

HarrietJones · 31/05/2011 05:13

Whereyouleftit- yes, she told the dr (who wasn't the flesh one but she thought he was)

All the characters have much more adventures than you see on screen though sp why wouldn't River? I just assume we only see the highlights!

teej · 31/05/2011 12:00

So when do we think Amy got gangered?
Was she always a ganger from The Eleventh Hour on?
Did it happen some time in S5 when she was left alone? eg During the Angels or Silurians 2-parters? When she was in the Pandorica?
In ep 1 of this season? At the picnic (and the Silence made them forget she had been replaced?)
In the White House loo?
In the Orphanage?

Thing is, it looks like she has been taken out of time, too, as technology had advanced sufficiently for her flesh clone to be effectively an avatar without its own feelings etc - so that would mean a time-travelling kidnapper. River? Is this her real dark secret and the killing a good man actually does not refer to rory or the doctor but someone else?

mumatron · 31/05/2011 16:57

is river imprisoned for killing a 'good' man specifically?

the prequel trailer says 'a good man goes to war' presumably that means she kills the doctor at some point then.

ScatterChasse · 31/05/2011 17:49

Thank you, that makes (a bit!) more sense. I was trying to work it from River's point of view, becuase she's the one who's explained it, and I've just been going round in circles. I like the idea of them having lots of other adventures :)

I'm still intrigued as to why Amy-with-the-Doctor sometimes saw/heard the hatch-patch-lady (btw, I wouldn't want her as my midwife, would you?!). Sometimes she was asleep, which would make sense (not as in tune to the Amy-with-the-Doctor, so could dream/cross over with Amy-in-the-white-room) but other times she was awake and busy, sometimes alone, sometimes with other people. I couldn't see a pattern Confused

How on earth do they write it? I think I could just about manage a stand-alone episode, but there is no way I could come up with a series story like this!

MrsChemist · 31/05/2011 17:53

I actually couldn't sleep last night after I watched episode 6. It just wouldn't stop playing on my mind. Blush

I blame pregnancy.

MrsChemist · 31/05/2011 17:54

Mine, that is, not Amy's

ScatterChasse · 31/05/2011 17:54

Ooh, just remembered something else.

In the very first episode, when she looked at the aliens, Amy felt sick/clutched her stomach and so did River, but nobody else did.

Or is that completely irrelevant?

teej · 31/05/2011 19:04

Sorry Harriet I meant to say in response to your post, I think some people see River and the doc as just what they see on screen and it's important to remember that, as you say, that it is just the edited highlights.

mumatron i think we are being misled with the River "killing a good man" line. he was "a hero to many" - but in 1930's/1940's germany lots of people would have ascribed the same description to hitler! look at the extradition of Mladic today - many of us would agree he's a war criminal who needs to be held to account but many Serbs still think he is a hero. it's all about perspective... it could, of course, be Roranicus she kills - but i would imagine there would have to be a good reason for it (ie that Rory was a mortal threat to the doctor for some reason).

teej · 31/05/2011 19:07

scatter re the breakthough images, i took it that Amy's eyes were mostly closed as she was being kept sedated so her subconscious was completely focused on her ganger. however, sometimes in a lighter sleep her eyes would flicker open and the image she saw would bleed through to her ganger.... there will probably be another reason - like maybe those images were allowed to leak through in order to bring the doctor to the people who are holding Amy - but i guess we may find out next w/e.

teej · 31/05/2011 19:15

also Scatter re River and Amy both having pregnancy symptoms in ep1 - it would be total madness if both River and Amy had been gangered as both were pregnant. but i wouldn't put it past this writing team.
say some external party did not know whether one or both had been made pregnant by the doctor - maybe they kidnapped both just in case in order to get a time head baby and its DNA. so River may actually be sharing Amy's fate and we just don't know it yet.

Or maybe both were being scanned at that point for potential time head pregnancies and this caused the nausea. Amy was pregnant in RL so was kidnapped and gangered; River was not so was let go.

i am still trying to see a path through this so am blethering out loud for the most part!!!

BertieBotts · 01/06/2011 18:04

I've only just noticed the "A good man goes to war" thing too - though I haven't seen anything to confirm that the "good man" the title refers to is the doctor. I did snap and watch the prequel thing though Blush although of course that doesn't confirm anything, just makes it more confusing! I won't say any more in case people haven't seen it.

BalloonSlayer · 01/06/2011 18:11

I still think that people are barking up the wrong tree suggesting that it'll turn out that the Doctor made Amy pregnant.

Amy is married to Rory, and it's a family show broadcast at 6pm not fecking Eastenders.

It will not be the Doctor's baby.

In fact the Doctor has never been clearly portrayed as having sex with anyone you see on screen - I doubt they'd start now. All the stuff with River Song has the air of James Bond flirting with Miss Moneypenny.

ScatterChasse · 01/06/2011 18:47

I think you're right Balloon, it will be Amy and Rory's baby (and the Doctors's seemed quite keen on them having a baby), so is Amy right about the time thing in the Tardis?

Because if that little girl in America was her daughter, she is definitely not normal.

BUT, could that even be her if she hasn't been born yet?

I just want to know where Amy is. It looks like the inside of a freezer!

RustyBear · 01/06/2011 20:05

This is really wishful thinking/fanfic territory, but if Amy turned out to be the daughter of River & the Doctor, that would make Amy's baby the Doctor's grand-daughter - Susan?

It could be a really long running storyline and not be resolved for a couple of seasons - in fact, we could find it out on November 23rd, 2013.....

Grin
meditrina · 01/06/2011 20:15

From the ganger time/place to the astronaut shooting a doctor is probably/possibly a short time (wibble!) as both are + 200 years.

Where was Amy gangered? Could there be other gangers of the same origin?

One of the things the Doctor said to Amy before was "You shouldn't exist" - perhaps she didn't?

ShuffleBallChange · 01/06/2011 20:40

This is all making my brain ache. I'm now off to lie in a darkened room in the hope that when I next check this thread, it will all become clear Hmm

Dylthan · 01/06/2011 20:51

I think amy's baby is river song I've seen that Amy calls the baby melody. So could melody be river song or am I just clutching at straws (grin)

BalloonSlayer · 01/06/2011 21:45

Melody Pond

River Song

hmmm

The Doctor called Rory "Mr Pond."
