What do you think of this? And when does it start? Could you stand the wait over the summer, or is it a godsend?

Wasn't the other woman in Teachers?

cardibach · 21/05/2011 21:20

I can see that too, Aitch. He has messed with our heads to the extent that we don't trust anything. My head hurts. Pass the wine.

cardibach · 21/05/2011 21:22

I thought the clone had a normal human lifespan? I'm sure that's what he told Rose - the whole point being that she had a version of the Doctor who would grow old alongside her.
I think we might be talking about different clones, edam. I mean the one made out of 'flesh' tonight.

JackieNo · 21/05/2011 21:44

Yes, my first thought was 'oh, two doctors, how convenient, so one can be shot', but then thought it was too obvious. Is there also a clone Tardis? That would be interesting.

And, could the two doctors team up, and the real one take the clone one in the tardis forward by 200 years?

edam · 21/05/2011 22:32

Oh, sorry, that post about Rose absorbing the energy from the Tardis confused me. Sadly missed tonight's episode as we were at a wedding but couldn't resist looking on this thread!

TomskiGirl · 21/05/2011 23:00

Maybe it is obvious and correct?! There's so much wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey stuff going on still - the girl who regenerated, is Amy preggers, who is River Song, who was in the astronaut suit, the women behind the door - that this series still has a lot of other questions to answer!!! Don't think I'll survive the summer, the cliff hanger in 2 weeks is a killer I hear!!

ComeAlongPond · 22/05/2011 10:34

I do think the flesh Doctor is going to be interesting but I'd be disappointed if they solved the biggest question of the series by saying "Oh yeah, he was a clone..." Too obvious and too dull.

On an unrelated note, why doesn't Amy change her shirt anymore? She's always wearing the same thing.

OhmeoOhmyo · 22/05/2011 10:54

I missed the beginning, what was the acid for? And the Gangers, were they used as extra workers? DS and DD had wildly differing opinions and we're not in the UK so no iPlayer.

AitchTwoOh · 22/05/2011 11:07

not sure it was explained what the acid was, just that they had to pump it off the island. the gangers were used as proxies for the workers, so that the real bodies were safe while the gangers worked with the acid.

AitchTwoOh · 22/05/2011 11:08

and comelaongpond, i guess it's to foster the 'she's actually spending the weekend with the silence' line.

confuddledDOTcom · 22/05/2011 13:12

I'm glad someone else noticed the shirt! We're used to The Doctor wearing the same clothes but that's just eww!

I agree with Aitch, they never explained what it is or what it's for it's just acid that copies things. It's highly corrosive so they use it to copy themselves and their copies work with it so they don't risk killing themselves. They're controlled (until now) by the grids on the walls.

Did anyone else notice that where the Doctor woke up was no where near where he fell? It was so obvious there was a clone walking around (although I wasn't sure if it was him or the other one) that I was surprised it took so long to turn up.

AitchTwoOh · 22/05/2011 14:12

i thought they said they were mining the acid, though, didn't they?

JackieNo · 22/05/2011 14:25

Do we think that if the series is all in Amy's head, and all about her almost 'losing' Rory each week, then this one is about her losing him not because he dies, but because he's going off with someone else (Jenny)? Or am I overthinking this Hmm?

BertieBotts · 22/05/2011 14:47

Ooh no that's an interesting idea Jackie.

I will be a bit pissed off admittedly if it does all turn out to be Amy's dream. It's supposed to be Doctor Who, not The Life of Amy Pond.

fantus · 22/05/2011 18:10

I think Amy is a clone (explains the not changing the shirt thing). Just throwing it out there. And the doctor stared at her for an awwwfulllly long time in the bathroom type place when she asked him if he knew anything about the flesh gunk acid stuff after he called it new technology implying he has seen how it will progress in the future. Well, that's how it sounded to me anyway Grin

Feel free to ignore though as I am usually always wrong!

HarrietJones · 22/05/2011 20:21

Dr on arrival refers to
'people are coming, well almost'
'almost coming?'
'no ,almost people'

Pixel · 22/05/2011 20:54

The house deleted the bedrooms last week. I expect all Amy's clothes were in there. Grin

confuddledDOTcom · 22/05/2011 21:47

Yes but Pixel, that was episode 4 and she's been in the same shirt/ leggings combo since episode 1!

edam · 22/05/2011 21:52

I loved that exchange last week when Rory and Amy asked the Doctor if their new room could 'lose the bunkbeds'. Grin

bronze · 23/05/2011 08:51

Could both sets, originals and gangers actually be clones and the real originals be somewhere else? The 'originals' just being more set than the newer clones. Would fit the almost people comment. Though don't know why they would be.

And why did Jenny? ganger suddenly get all tough when up til then both versions of her had been all wussy

RustyBear · 23/05/2011 09:42

When the doctor arrived, the beings he met first were the gangers - they said that Jenny was the only one that wasn't at the time, all the others were in their 'docks' or whatever they called them, so what the Doctor detected coming their way were 'almost people'

I'm not sure we ever saw/were told exactly what happened to the gangers when the original came out of their docks, presumably they reverted to the Flesh -did they climb back into the tank & get reabsorbed, or what? If they just melted into a puddle on the spot, it would be a bit messy and wasteful...

AitchTwoOh · 23/05/2011 09:52

good question, rusty. i thought that the scene with raquel cassidy's character, where she went 'i abandoned my team, doctor' was all very odd. even if she was a ganger at that point, it didn't seem in character at all.

NerfHerder · 23/05/2011 10:08

Yes- I kept asking DH what they mined the acid for... it just wasn't metioned anywhere at all, though of course all may be revealed in next week's episode.

I am toying with not watching the week after next... don't think I could stand to wait the whole summer for a resolution of a cliff hanger, it's just not possible for me.

rustyb- I think when the originals came out of the docks, the gangers would go limp, as they would have no controllers- just like a big rubber flesh suit- probably stored in the room with the acid suits perhaps?

RustyBear · 23/05/2011 11:48

That's a possibility, Nerf - but then presumably at some time they would recycle them? When they created Jenny's latest ganger, it was done from scratch, not 'reviving' an existing one from a store; if they created a new one every time without destroying previous versions, they'd run out of storage space pretty soon...

NerfHerder · 23/05/2011 12:03

haha- good point!
