What do you think of this? And when does it start? Could you stand the wait over the summer, or is it a godsend?

Harriet just another thread in Telly Addicts about crying at the eppy!

teej · 14/05/2011 21:25

bucaneve can't remember whether we've discussed it on this thread but i always thought Amy's house was dodgy. that extra flight of stairs going up from her bedroom when it's only a 2-storey house? when then looks reminiscent of The Lodger's house.

definately a 2-series arc; and Pixel hasn't the Moff said he pretty much came up with the River storyline when he was a child?!

teej · 14/05/2011 21:26

which then....

ThatVikRinA22 · 14/05/2011 21:29

LOVED that episode. written by Neil Gaiman - thought it was just like Stardust then DH told me it was written by Gaiman - who wrote Stardust!

i had a lump in my throat. i am truly loving this season - brilliant brilliant writers make such a difference!

mumatron · 14/05/2011 21:30

teej defo something about amys house. whatever it was in there said something about the silence iirc.

mamushi · 14/05/2011 21:34

the river in the forest!
the first episode with river was in the library, with those shadow things that eat people, and the doctor said that they usually lived in forests feeding off small creatures, so he said the library was like their forests! so that was river in a forest!!!
If that makes sense

bucaneve · 14/05/2011 21:45

teej I think though, Amy's house just looked too big because it was just her and her aunt, and now that the universe has been un-cracked and she has parents again the house would have gone back to normal, maybe?

Did the lodger story line ever get resolved? As in who made that attempt at a tardis?

TrillianAstra · 14/05/2011 21:58

Why oh why was that woman not played by Helena Bonham Carter?

Amy is definitely better when she is not shouty. Those two clearly haven't watched many horror movies - after the first time a door came down between them you'd think they would have held hands while running down scary corridors?

Pixel · 14/05/2011 22:23

Ha ha, that's what dd and I were shouting at the Telly. "Don't leave him behind again you idiot!"

BertieBotts · 14/05/2011 22:34

Trillian I was shouting that too "HOLD HANDS!"

Maybe even if Amy and Rory are River's parents, she doesn't know that? So wouldn't necessarily recognise them.

There have been a couple of forest references - Forest of the Dead, and also "A forest in a bottle on a spaceship in a maze. Have I impressed you yet, Amy Pond?", possibly another one I can't remember as well? Both of those episodes had River in.

I loved the tardis being called "Sexy" Grin He does talk to her like she's a person, always has!

BertieBotts · 14/05/2011 22:35

Oh and bucaneve - watch Day of the Moon again :)

MavisGrind · 14/05/2011 22:40

Going back to a point of Berties ages ago (don't mind me I'm usually lurking)..... didn't the Doctor and River have a picnic (albeit with Amy and Rory) in the Impossible Astronaut? Cant decide of this was significant. Or not.

Very much enjoyed this epidsode. Pirates were shit.

MavisGrind · 14/05/2011 22:42

episode even. 'epidsose' sounds like I have a cold.

bullet234 · 14/05/2011 22:48

Fantastic episode. DH and I loved the classic references. Eg the psychic message boxes from "The War Games", the Eye of Orion from "The Five Doctors". Absolutely excellent.

teej · 14/05/2011 22:52

bucaneve - it was more that there were stairs up to amy's bedroom from the ground floor, so her room was on the first floor - then there seemed to be a second set of stairs up to a second floor. Thing is if you look at the exterior of the house [http://planetgallifrey.blogspot.com/2009/10/doctor-who-filming-081009.html picture here] there is no way that house has another level - the roof is too shallow.

so Amy's house is actually just like the Lodger house, which seemed to have another floor, and so we could possibly assume that there is yet another Silence tardis sitting atop Amy's house....

BertieBotts · 14/05/2011 22:57

Mavis - I think I was misleading on that one slightly. I rewatched the bit where River dies and she didn't mention a picnic at all but about them going to the singing towers, wherever they are.

Teej - That's really weird. And yes! That house is clearly only two storeys yet the extra stairs didn't look as though they were leading up to a loft, but a whole extra floor.

teej · 14/05/2011 23:04

Bertie but you were right - she does mention a picnic at Asgard Smile

Yy re Amy's house - it was one of the things that annoyed me at the end of the last series as it hadn't been resolved Grin

BertieBotts · 14/05/2011 23:09

Oh, does she? Hey, wasn't Asgard mentioned in tonight's episode? Or did I imagine that?

I've heard it said that Moffat makes rewatching rewarding, and I can see what they mean - you pick up all sorts of little details the second time around, with the benefit of matching them with information other episodes too.

ComeAlongPond · 15/05/2011 00:39

Best. Episode. Ever.

That was a million times better than last week's. And bloody scary, with the skeleton of Rory - I actually couldn't look.

The whole "the river is the only water in the forest" or whatever he said thingy reminded me of the library episode, too. Wasn't that the first time we saw River? But it made me think of Amy, too, as in Pond. They've made something of a big deal about her name from the start, haven't they, saying it's like a fairytale name and the Doctor calling her Pond all the time.

QBEE · 15/05/2011 04:00

Is there only me sniggering like a pre pubescent boy at the unfortunate name of Neil Gaiman?

Phil: 'Hi, the name's Phil Macrackin'

Neil: 'Neil Gaiman'

Phil: 'What, here?'

What's the correct way to say it then? Is it properly Gay-MAN?

I was going to Gay-mn (more like mun than man but no emphasis on any vowel at all there) or Gai-mn (a bit like guy).

dawntigga · 15/05/2011 10:40

TrillianAstra exactly what I was thinking - HBC would have been PERFECT for that role. Just the right amount of ditzy madness coupled with large dollops of mummyness.

epidsose sounds like an episode with weight issues

My mains problem is I van never remember episode names even if I remembe the actualu episodes. I noticed that at the beginning of this chat so deliberately made a mental note to notice them. Now I can remember last nights but have already forgotton the others

There was something else said last night that made me think of River but can't remember what. It hasn't been mentioned though so will have to rewatch
