What do you think of this? And when does it start? Could you stand the wait over the summer, or is it a godsend?

I missed a chunk of this episode because of other selfish noisy people! I will rewatch on iplayer.

It makes sense that Amy is living two lives at once, in a way. I rewatched last week's and the Doctor's "you only live once" didn't seem like a throwaway comment to me, it seemed significant. Hmm. It's all very complex.

HarrietJones · 07/05/2011 20:36

Iplayer confidential won't work for us as it's only in HD. Was it worth watching?

ceebeegeebies · 07/05/2011 21:27

Me and DH did have a little snigger at one point when Dr Who shouts at Hugh B's character something along the lines of 'you had to have your gold, what about your wife and your child??' so prophetic bearing in mind what Hugh B has been upto lately Grin

Anyway, back to the topic, I have nothing to add as I am so confused and tbh, I think they have made it so complicated, that it is becoming not particularly enjoyable anymore.

Also, (last comment), why did Amy, Hugh B's character and Dr Who not end up on a bed in the sick bay along with all the others? how come they were allowed to just wander around the ship???

Arcadie · 07/05/2011 21:39

ceebeegeebies because if they'd ended up in the sick bay there'd have been no one to free Rory in what isbecoming a weekly event of resucitating him . You're right of course - it doesn't follow and is a smidge lazy on Steven Thompson's part IMO.

It wasn't a classic - but it does make a bit more sense of the woman behind the hatch/Amy's parallel life malarkey. Bit clunky to show the same footage of the space BFP/BFN monitor though...

BertieBotts · 07/05/2011 21:40

Because they didn't get injured - the others all injured themselves very slightly, on swords or I think one of them accidentally put his hand too near the fire.

ZillahWhoDrankTooMuchGin · 07/05/2011 21:42

And did anyone see the last 'ship mate' die? (think the actor was in eastenders) The son cut his hand and the other pirate left and they said something about 'no honour among pirates' and then the guy that ran got killed in the treasure room. Next time we are back in the gun room after the tardis vanished and it's just Amy, Rory and the boy. Then he was there at the end in the space ship - but we never saw him taken...

I know they weren't really killed but you know what i'm getting at....

ceebeegeebies · 07/05/2011 21:48

Zillah me and DH said exactly the same - that pirate just vanished from the room they were holed up in.

Very lazy writing tonight I felt.

Bertie but Amy, Dr Who and Hugh B all pricked themselves in order to be taken so they were injured however slightly...which, again, didn't really make sense as those that just had their hand slashed slightly could not have been seriously ill enough to be put on a life support machine.

Sorry, thought that the whole episode was a bit crap tonight Sad

mumatron · 07/05/2011 21:49

zillah I thought i must have missed owen off eastenders die Confused

WhereYouLeftIt · 07/05/2011 21:52

SO, reading out some of the posts to DH, about Amy being with The Silence for 5 days ...

He mutters about 7 episodes in the first half of the split series, the fist two being episodes with The Silence, leaving 5, one per day, each episode being a day in Amy's life and a dream sequence, hence the plot holes because that's how dreams are, you accept a dream at face value and only see the implausibility of it once awake. Explaining Frances Barber, she of the metal eyepatch checking up on Amy through the not-there-afterwards hatches.

JackieNo · 07/05/2011 22:42

The Frances Barber eyepatch lady sounds very midwife-like to me.

In Confidential, it was rather sad when they showed the Producer going from one bit of the set to another, and saying they were going past the Sarah Jane Adventures set Sad.

teej · 07/05/2011 23:34

jackieno that got me too - the fact that they were walking around going "it's the SJA set" with the expectation that it would be filming as usual and then that horrible disease took her so cruelly.

where you left it i like your DH's thinking. if the next few eppies are surreal/full of holes/crap then it could be explained away by the fact that it's a dream. but does that ultimately reward the viewer? it's all a bit bobby ewing for my liking, i think. moffat could be playing a dangerous game.

mumatron, zillah, we spotted the vanishing pirate too. this series (and maybe the last one too) feel a little unfinished imho.

teej · 07/05/2011 23:36

also think "they killed rory!" is getting a bit too south park. leave him alone for a while fgs...

ZillahWhoDrankTooMuchGin · 08/05/2011 00:18

you know how last series there was the reappearing dr - in slightly diff clothes trying to get Amy to 'remember'? I wonder if the pirate that died but didn't might turn up at osme point - after all he is a well known actor?? I will be looking out for similar things......

..........failing that they just didn't have the time to put all the scenes in....???

teej · 08/05/2011 00:26

zillah I know - but they should cut their cloth. if you don't have the time to show the outcome for a character then don't show that character. it's run time you can better spend elsewhere imho!

ZillahWhoDrankTooMuchGin · 08/05/2011 00:30

Yeah - it was a bit shit Grin

ComeAlongPond · 08/05/2011 00:37

Yes, until Rory ACTUALLY dies, forever, for good, his death is no longer an interesting plot line. I'm beginning to hope he actually pops his clogs next time just to liven it up a bit. There's so only so much Amy-weeping-over-Rory's-dead-body that I can take.

BertieBotts · 08/05/2011 01:17

I didn't know that, teej/jackie :( how awful.

ceebee that's true. Agree the episode felt much like a filler one (which I suppose it was really). The cpr thing was a bit stupid. And yes, surely Rory can't die any more times!

I've noticed in past episodes though, when they don't go to finish something off it ends up being significant later.

BertieBotts · 08/05/2011 01:58

By the way, I found tonight's Confidential in non-HD if you still want it, Harriet :)

HarrietJones · 08/05/2011 07:17

Thanks!

JackieNo · 08/05/2011 10:33

Yes, the Rory dying thing - I was a bit Hmm that he 'chose' Amy to be the one who resuscitates him 'because i know you won't give up on me' and then she tried for about 30 seconds, and promptly, um, gave up [cross].

JackieNo · 08/05/2011 10:33

Angry, obviously Blush

ComeAlongPond · 08/05/2011 12:11

Agreed. If I were Rory I would use the noggin he was obviously blessed with if he's managed to qualify as a nurse to think, "Hmm, Doctor, Amy, Doctor, Amy..." and come to the conclusion that the Doctor, with his hundreds of years of extensive travelling and determination to save the world about once a week, would be somewhat more qualified to give CPR that Amy, who has done nothing much except get her kit off for the pervs in their village.

At least this episode made sense, though, minus one or two holes and that hatch woman.

Was that the Ood in the preview for next week?

ZillahWhoDrankTooMuchGin · 08/05/2011 15:17

Jackie Grin - she didn't put much effort in did she? you hear stories of folk surviving with someone giving them CPR for half an hour or so before the ambulance arrives....

....Dh thinks the Dr deliberately didn't help as the whole series is supposed to be some kind of 'test' for Amy. He doesn't even know what he means but basically she has to go through certain things - it's certainly all about her and her parallel universes...

MilkNoSugarPlease · 08/05/2011 16:48

Ooh maybe the astronaut who killed the Dr was Rose! :o

MilkNoSugarPlease · 08/05/2011 16:49

Or the doctor killing another version of himself!
