The programme gives the impression that they do c-sections at a drop of a hat. When I had mine I thought it was blindingly obvious for ages I needed one and when they finally said so I thought "about bloody time." Here it seems to come as a surprise.

this programme makes it very clear why the UK has such a shockingly high CS rate

Oh I know sophable and it was the first thing I asked for when I went in for dd... but the mw said she was reluctant to let me hold her incase I dropped her [shock} I told dh not to take any clothes in for dd so they'd have to give her to me naked :o

I'm sorry, but skin to skin is nice, but a tad overrated, I have had it with one of my three children, I love them, we bonded. I asked them to get ds1 off me, he was too heavy and I felt too shit. He is not damaged or destined for a life of working in lidl.

Yup skin to skin is lovely but I have been shat and peed on by two of my darling boys, suppose the wee was nice and warm, and the midwife could tick the box to say the kidneys were functioning...

It is important to help establish breastfeeding, and also if your baby has been distressed or has low blood sugar.

It's the editing which makes it look all so sudden and without good reasons.

When I had mine, it was pretty obvious from when I first entered the labour ward, that I was headed that way, but I guess if it was filmed and edited that way, there'd be plenty shouting of "why didn't they do this that or the other?!" first.

I had a home birth with DS2 2 months ago and skin-to-skin was part of the unwritten birth plan - we all expected it. But in the event, tho I held him, his cord was v v short (40cms) so he didn't reach past my navel, and I felt like utter shite for first 45 mins, sick and shaking , so DH took him. Was a bit of a shock, that skin-to-skin didn't feel fab, because I felt so ill I couldn't concentrate on anything else.

Baby seems to have bonded with me, however!
