but really worth watching! they all seem so young compared to the similar series of the 80s

OP posts:
Skifit · 02/03/2011 14:34

One of my favourite programmes of the week.
John really nice guy, and good Doctor but worried about his weight . .("Come on John be sensible, set an example and count your Calories!!")
Leslie nice and has a big heart
The other pretty female with glasses who failed some exams last year, really a nice girl. . sooo young ! (makes me feel ancient)
Dark haired , dark chappy . . should know his name. . another really top guy who will make a fabulous Doctor. .
They all are lovely and care so much. . .aahh!

hattymattie · 02/03/2011 15:19

Compulsive viewing but cannot get my head round John's weight given that he's a Dr and all the teasing he gets from his rugby chums. I'll be interested to see if he loses it with job stess.

Really sad patient cases - the woman with bowel cancer and very shocked at the guy who drinks 60 pints a week (how is that possible?).

RatherBeOnThePiste · 02/03/2011 15:43

She kept checking, "16?"
"No, 60!"

Indith · 02/03/2011 18:20

The large one's sister is a friend of ours. They have both struggled a lot with weight, I believe he did in fact lose a lot during his course. She has recently lost loads of weight too and is now studying medicine herself :)

tegan · 03/03/2011 07:54

i am seriously in love with jon and his wonderful bedside manner but adam is a shit doctor and needs to get his out of his ass

Flisspaps · 03/03/2011 07:56

Not sure how Katherine is going to manage, she just seems to be struggling more than the others :(

MaryAnnSingleton · 03/03/2011 08:28

she also seems to have to lug her handbag about with her

sharbie · 03/03/2011 08:30

she is also, quite obviously,12 years old.

Adam ? The dark haired guy ? He is ok . . .He needs that confidence to be a Doctor. . .he isnt really up his own arse TEGAN .

Please 2nd year Doctor John/Jon, the fat one. . .please lose some weight or your colleagues will be doing CPR on you mate!

sharbie · 03/03/2011 10:22

overconfident surely skifit

skydance · 03/03/2011 10:26

Been watching this on iplayer, thanks south I would never have known this was on if you hadn't posted.

I was quite shocked at how many of the cases involved alcohol, perhaps that is the departments they are on though, A&E and gastro ward particulary, A&E is not a nice place to work at night is it, it must be very frustrating and scary at times.

It was interesting that there really was quite a difference between the first year and second year students, that extra year has really given them a lot more confidence working with patients.

And what is with Catherine having to carry around her handbag, provide some lockers for staff NHS managers.

Amazed at the amount of paperwork, as one of them said, junior doctors take blood and do paperwork, watching the programme that seemed to be very true.

Was shocking how very young they were, or perhaps I am just old. Hmm

Off to google the book Mrschemist mentioned.

Skifit · 03/03/2011 10:40

Confidence I reckon can help as a Doctor. . .that doesnt mean to think you know it all...I just think it means you feel confident that you have the ability. Surely thats better ?

Imagine a Doctor with little confidence. The poor patient would lose confidence and be even more scared.

iskra · 03/03/2011 10:55

skifit I totally disagree about Adam. He's an arrogant wanker, & that doesn't make a good doctor.

Skifit · 03/03/2011 11:14

ok

medicalmayhem · 03/03/2011 11:34

which ones Adam again?

MaryAnnSingleton · 03/03/2011 14:17

Adam

TigerseyeMum · 03/03/2011 14:40

Really enjoying this series. The big one (John?) is a great doctor but when he was running to do CPR and sweating I really felt worried for him. I hope he has indeed lost the weight.

The tall dark one (not Adam the other one) seems to have an answer for everything and seems to tell everyone else what to do/think. He annoys me. Adam seems confident but likeable and I think he will have the corners knocked off him soon.

I also cried when they told the lady she had weeks to live Blush

Loving it. I also liked the vets one years ago, I find it fascinating to see how others live their lives.

TigerseyeMum · 03/03/2011 14:41

Oh, I also think the long shifts they do are disgraceful, I now it's less than in the bad old days but sometimes when I am at work doing a 10-12 hour shift I notice my patient notes get very iffy and I make a lot of mistakes. Luckily I don't work in physical health, but I would not want a canula put in by someone who is exhausted and can't see straight from such long hours.

NorbertDentressangle · 03/03/2011 14:51

MrsChemist -I read that book recently, it was really good (its by Max Pemberton if anyone is trying to track it down).

I've also been watching the show -agree that Adam is so far up his own backside its untrue. Yes, they need confidence but there is a limit!. On the other hand poor Catherine is so lacking in confidence and assertiveness and its not helped by the fact she looks 12.

I really felt for the one who was moved to tears by the patient who was given the news that she had terminal cancer and didn't have long left. I really wanted the female consultant to give the junior doc a hug as surely she must know how emotionally tough it is in those first years.

Can't wait for the A&E "toilet brush stuck up the arse" case that was briefly shown on the first episode Grin

Skifit · 03/03/2011 15:57

Having seen the video about Adam...he is rather full of himself. . .he thinks he is really something special....oh well, pride comes before a fall !

medicalmayhem · 03/03/2011 19:13

oh yes thank you mary

NorbertDentressangle · 03/03/2011 20:08

For anyone who missed it.....the last episode is currently being repeated on BBC3 now!!!

tillytips · 04/03/2011 10:51

Fab series so far. Hubby watched it last night and even he said " why's she carrying her bloody handbag everywhere"

expatinscotland · 04/03/2011 10:53

Sorry, but Adam's a wanker. Bitching all the time about having to do tasks he considers beneath him, like paperwork. Arsehole.
