I kept telling them my epidural hadn't worked. They finally believed me when, whilst crowning, I srceeched "what the fuck is spraying in my face?". It was the tube from the epi that had come away from my back and was flinging around like a hose.

I think it should be illegal for pregnant women to watch this programme.

'An oversexualised/pornified underage girl is somethig to be concerned about.

A girl would have to have been exposed to images or similar which are unsuitable for her age to even know that a 'hollywood' exists or is desirable.'

Thanks for the patronising lecture about my character and upbringing. All of your assumptions are totally wrong, btw, in my case.

What was porn like in 1986 when I was 15, because, well, I didn't know, because, I hadn't seen it?

I was also a virgin - but admittedly a horny one who lost it 2 days after I was 16 to my hot, sexy, 23-year-old French host brother.

The origin of the Brazilian, which is what I had, back when you had to actually find and go to a real Brazilian salon to get it, was for wearing a bikini in a hot climate and being Latina and in a hot climate, I liked wearing bikinis. I did not like having fair skin and lots and lots of dark hair. It was hot and uncomfortable and people saw the hair instead of me. It also meant I didn't get a good tan. So sue me.

Glad to see how concerned you are about what other people's reasons are for doing what they like with their own body.

Hmm
ItsAllaBitDeathlyQuiet · 07/02/2011 23:10

I guess you had to not be there to find it so funny.

pugly · 07/02/2011 23:10

I had the same as the pink lady with both mine - asked for epidurals, told it was too early then too late but was glad I didn't have it in the end. Thought it was a bit boring tonight to be honest, oh well - see you next week :)

expatinscotland · 07/02/2011 23:10

Oh, the age of consent for a girl in my state at the time was, well, fifteen.

Oh, I remember it, because I actually turned fifteen three days before my quinceanera, which was on the weekend as they usually are, and so I had my Brazilian on the day before my quinceanera.

Then it was school break so we jetted off to Costa Rica for a holiday and I got to wear makeup, skimpy bikinis and talk to boys, within reason.

It was great! My 19-year-old sister and I had so much fun. I drank my first cocktail, a pina colada.

Missedagain · 07/02/2011 23:27

starlight i am with you
begging and begging but no

expatinscotland · 07/02/2011 23:30

and people wonder sometimes why some women scream blue murder to get one like Steph?

it's because all too often, they've got a midwife like the one tonight who just don't fucking listen and believe that you, to who it is all happening, are an intelligent sensient being who can actually decide for herself what is best for her body.

clivesummer · 07/02/2011 23:46

did not like the MW's tonight - seemed to be ignoring everything Sara wanted and really bossy. My due date is in less than 2 weeks and I was in floods of tears watching. Really hoping I don't get evil MW !

stressheaderic · 08/02/2011 00:13

Julia looked very embarrassed every time Dean opened his mouth. Her body language when sitting on the sofa next to him was very squirmy and they didn't make eye contact once in the whole programme.
I can't see them going the distance.

blackletterday · 08/02/2011 01:13

I got an epi at 3cm, wasn't even in unbearable pain, I got it because of future imagined pain Blush. Or more likely they could see that my baby wasn't exactly dancing for joy and I was basically a dead cert for emcs, god knows.

propercrimbo · 08/02/2011 09:53

Wasn't the best episode last night, two lovely babies though, forceps looked utterly brutal!
I wonder if they will do a twin birth?

mummiehunnie · 08/02/2011 09:57

I am with you Stresshead, it was as if she had what she wanted and that relationship will not last now! Julia did not really like Dean at all by the looks of it, she was ready to run from that sofa in the end interview!

tiokiko · 08/02/2011 10:33

I don't think I've seen one woman on OBEM using a TENS machine - I know that lots of people don't get on with them but I thought that some would have them?

I used mine right from the start and didn't think it was doing anything until the MW knocked it off by accident and I nearly hit the roof. I don't think I could have got through it without it and found it really helped me get through a pretty long labour.

tiokiko · 08/02/2011 10:34

Have just had a thought - there hasn't been some scare around TENS machines since I had DD 2 years ago, has there??

propercrimbo · 08/02/2011 10:53

I used one in early labour at home tiokiko, but not in the hosp, that was 2 1/2 yrs ago too though. Haven't heard anything?

2babyblues · 08/02/2011 11:02

I felt sorry for the lady asking for epidural. She just seemed completely ignored, then suddenly it was too late for her to have one. Also, when the baby was born it was back to back, how come noone picked this up during labour. That is so painful, they could have given epidural on those grounds. Instead they drugged her up on pethidine which she didn't really want. I thought they were really dismissive of her when they were drinking tea in the staff room.

Also, telling the lady not to scream - why not?

I wasn't impressed with the midwives at all this week. They have been really good on previous programmes.

CilantroLarry · 08/02/2011 11:09

DD was op and then ot during labour. This was not known even though several midwives (was at home with community midwives for the first 10hrs), an obstetric registrar and a consultant examined me. All of them said they couldn't feel where she was (anterior placenta) but that she didn't feel 'right'. She was coming out ear first. Or not coming out to be more precise. Sometimes they can't tell. It wasn't until the emcs that they could 'see' what position she'd got herself into.

And there's sometimes an argument to ask women to focus on pushing instead of screaming as the screaming means they're not pushing. It's okay as a gentle suggestion.

expatinscotland · 08/02/2011 11:12

that blonde excuse for a midwife came across as a lazy, uncaring, patronising cow.

Beveridge · 08/02/2011 11:14

I had a midwife with me all the way through my labour with DD (different ones, probably because I went from an assesment ward, to the pool and then onto labour ward) and they had to spend most of their time writing up my notes - so even allowing for editing, I do think the OBEM midwives seem to have an awful lot of time to drink tea!

CilantroLarry · 08/02/2011 11:17

But she was funny expat. She drew felt tip glasses on her husband. What a hoot. Hmm

Fimbo · 08/02/2011 11:20

Did we catch what Julia & Dean called the baby, was it Kieran?

CilantroLarry · 08/02/2011 11:21

One of the midwives said something about Daniel. I was v tired last night, might have been hearing things.
