Anyone watching?

"You can't make a woman in labour move around..."

I agree! Before I had DD I was going to do everything they tell you to do - walk around, walk up and down the stairs to help the baby descend, get on all fours etc etc. Reality was so much different and with every contraction I just wanted to curl up and die.

candyfluff · 11/01/2011 13:45

i loved janet and ralph , what a sweet couple,he made me cry at end ,so gklad that steph got her epidural poor love she was petrified, how they kept her still for that i dont know !.

candyfluff · 11/01/2011 13:45

what did steph have? names ?

Woodlands · 11/01/2011 14:32

just watched it. it was so odd having watched the last series while pg, and now am bfing my 6 month old while watching the new series.

campion · 11/01/2011 16:49

They never seem to encourage the mother to look at the baby as its head emerges. It's an amazing sight if you're the one pushing it out!

And it might have stopped Steph screaming quite so luxuriously a bit earlier. After all, the baby could hear all that yelling too. I hope they don't moan when he cries!

The camera angles are a bit coy, aren't they? It is Channel 4 after all, but I'd be none the wiser about how a baby is actually born if I was relying on this.

I suppose they just want to concentrate on these 'stoopid' couples.

Wallace · 11/01/2011 17:03

poting so i don't forget to read thred latr

expatinscotland · 11/01/2011 18:09

'They never seem to encourage the mother to look at the baby as its head emerges. It's an amazing sight if you're the one pushing it out!'

I had zero desire to see that, tbh.

GetOrfMoiLand · 11/01/2011 21:47

Christ.

The midwife tried to get me to touch dd's head as she came out.

Fuck that. Just get.my.baby.out.

Cleofartra · 12/01/2011 11:20

Just watched this on iplayer. Cried loads.

Love that young couple. Love them. Ralph reminds me of my ds. I was shouting 'I'll give you a hug Ralph you poor kid' at the screen!

Actually both the mums were adorable.

And those two older midwives. Smile

Wish they'd get the women off the fucking beds though.

And why was that poor girl being induced anyway? She was only 12 days over?

darleneconnor · 12/01/2011 11:50

This programme is certainly a good advert for homebirth!

jeanz · 12/01/2011 11:57

yes i did watch in fact whole family (my mum and my 14 yr old also watch). I did nearly choke on the "they come out smelling of baby powder " comment boy has that girl got a shock coming Smile Have got to admit the one that was screaming would have drove me mad, though there was a screamer in when i was having my daughter all those year ago. I dont know how her midwife didnt lose her temper!

marge2 · 12/01/2011 11:58

Can't watch. Brings back too mahy horrible memories. Gives me the collywobbles!

Bessie123 · 12/01/2011 12:00

I LOVE obem. I felt so sorry for Ralph when he didn't get to watch his son being born. I think that girl's mum should have asked her if she was sure when she asked for her mum rather than Ralph. I wish that show was on every day.

I'm going to enjoy this series. Didn't wtch it last year as was pg with DD2 and didn't want to watch anything like that then!

That young chap was one of a kind wasn't he? Bless him!

memorylapse · 12/01/2011 13:26

just watched this on sky + this time last year I was 6 months pregnant with baby number 5 and watching with a mixture of trepidation, excitement and downright terror...

felt very sorry for the screaming woman as she was obviously in agony..Ralph reminds me of my 9 year old son..who is on the spectrum.

thell · 12/01/2011 13:41

My DH turned to me and said - 'Is that what women who give birth in hospitals go through?'
Smile
He's a bit spoilt as he only has experience of our fairly straightforward homebirth.
This programme seems quite good for validating the choices I already made!!

itchtitchy · 12/01/2011 13:46

Forgot it was on. Off to 4od it. Thank you. Incidently I saw a book to accompany the series in WhSmith. Its half price at mo if anyone is interested.

mummysmadhouse · 12/01/2011 13:49

yes im hooked love it and cant wait till next week Grin

GingaNinja · 12/01/2011 14:00

Yep hooked too. Just watched it on 4OD; didn't cry this time though did through every episode last series - maybe too much like flashbacks last series as wasn't that long since producing DD!

Personally, I found being able to walk/crawl/move ceased about 3 hrs before DD arrived. Fast labour and I couldn't move without help once things got going. The 5 metres from the van to the hospital door felt like a marathon; the 100 metre corridor to the labour ward lasted 1000 years. I'm still boggled when they say that the proto-mummy is sleeping between contractions. There are/were supposed to be gaps!?!?? And long enough to sleep?!! Thank god for Steph - don't feel like such a wuss now myself.Grin

honkytonk · 12/01/2011 14:19

Agree with you thell. So pleased I did not go in to hospital with either of mine.

I know the programme is edited a great deal but why don't the midwifes encourage the women to move about and try different birthing positions. I appreciate everyone has their own pain thresholds and choices etc etc.

the programme is an excellent diary of hospital birthing but it does not reflect all the choices available.

MrsChemist · 12/01/2011 14:34

I'm looking forward to next weeks and the water birth. I want a water birth this time round, as I was offered one with my DS and I turned it down like a muppet.

"This programme seems quite good for validating the choices I already made."

thell & honkytonk I am also delighted you didn't have to go into hospital to have your babies. But please don't think you stayed at home entirely through choice. I'm sure luck, mother nature and your baby's willingness to play ball came into it as well. I'm glad you feel your choice was "validated" but try to remember the many women who also "decide" to have their babies at home and end up in hospital anyway when things move beyond their control.

Hello Mumsnetters,

The makers of One Born Every Minute are currently looking for participants for their new show, which explores the father/teen daughter dynamic.
