Eastenders Baby Death Storyline

deemented · 28/12/2010 18:30

Once again, no one can live happily ever after Sad

Ronnie's baby James, dies and she puts his body in Kat and Alfies son's crib, and steals their baby boy, Tommy.

Why oh why oh why do scriptwriters insist on portraying bereaved parents - mothers especially - as mad and deranged??? Maybe it's because they can't begin to imagine how awful the death of a child is, but really, whilst we are mad with grief, it is our own child that we want back, not someone else's stolen child. When are scriptwriters ever going to understand that?

Still, it'll be a riveting watch, no doubt.

Hard to judge and complain about how it's been handled if you haven't seen it though

hellymelly · 31/12/2010 20:35

I am watching for that reason.

gregssausageroll · 31/12/2010 20:36

Me too Rockin!

I wonder (following on from a post I made earlier about the beeb showing the eps to a test audience that went wrong) if they've decided to cut the reveal short? May be the intention was to be a year but with the test audience complaining they've changed to to a few weeks and made teh club foot a prominent thing?

SecretSanta66 · 31/12/2010 20:36

I'm finding this all very upsetting and just sick. I'm sure there are other story lines they could have done :(

RockinRobinBird · 31/12/2010 20:36

Fair enough but I don't need those images in my head so I'd rather not bother. I can't see any way that it could be done well and judging from the responses on another forum it's pretty upsetting.

lal123 · 31/12/2010 20:37

Watched for a bit - but just too sad for Ronnie, so turned it over. Couldn't cope with tears on NYE!

compo · 31/12/2010 20:39

There hasn't been any mention of a club foot for example

deemented · 31/12/2010 20:40

Well, out of sheer stubborness, i watched it.

Very very badly acted IMO. I didn't find Ronnie's reaction to finding her sons lifeless body at all credible.

Hmm
OP posts:
compo · 31/12/2010 20:43

I agree deemented

but when she walked in the pub in her grief stricken deranged mind I could see how cruel life had been to her and in her mind ( because she didn't know kat was in hospital ) the baby wasn't being looked after

not excusing it though Sad can't believe what a crap life they've given ronnie

LesAnimaux · 31/12/2010 20:44

Total load of bullshit...

compo · 31/12/2010 20:48

Don't know why roxy and glenda just left ronnie on her own though Hmm

HeroShrew · 31/12/2010 20:50

My 'Stenders boycott did me a favour. I've been watching Rigoletto on Beeb4 when I usually could not be torn away from EE. Bloody brilliant.

tryingtobemarypoppins2 · 31/12/2010 20:56

I did watch tonight but DH didn't (his brother also called James died from cot death and his mum has struggled for 30 years having a huge effect on him growing up).

I really feel EE have wasted such a chance to do somethieng positive, highlighting back to sleep, other advice given, CPR, or all the myths/questions etc etc etc but no. Very very sad IMO.

mrstimlovejoy · 31/12/2010 21:01

ronnie's found out in one of next weeks episodes apparently so it's not going to be dragged out for too long.
i thought the same deemented not very credible.

gregssausageroll · 31/12/2010 21:01

I agree trying. They could have highlighted so much and although a sad story they could have brought quite a bit of awareness but all of that will be clouded by the swap.

compo · 31/12/2010 21:02

Yes I was wondering why she didn't try cpr but never having been in that situation I don't know how you'd react
if only carol or glenda had been in then they could have demonstrated cpr
I bet the complaints are flooding in Sad
why would they make one characters life so completely hideous and tragic Sad

SilveryMoon · 31/12/2010 21:12

I watched it.
I'm very upset for Ronnie and can't believe they have done this to her.
So sad she got one day with James, and one day with Danielle.
I still don't really know exactly how I feel about it, so unfair on Alfie too.
I think they could have done loads with this story, they could have really educated people about the risk of SIDS.
Thankfully, I have never been through anything like this so have no idea at all how someone is supposed to react.

LesAnimaux · 31/12/2010 21:15

They ahaven't educated people about SIDS, thoug.

Baby Tommy was left at the top of the moses basket(what about feet to foot), no dummy, no monitor, and is still alive.

And I would have swaddled hi personally, but hey.

ilovesprouts · 31/12/2010 21:18

i did not watch it Sad

StrangewaysHereICome · 31/12/2010 21:50

I must have been living in a bubble as I had no idea this storyline was coming up. I found it incredibly upsetting to watch (am pg so maybe a bit more sensitive) I cannot believe they are sensationalising cot death with such a crass storyline. The BBC should be ashamed.

PussinJimmyChoos · 31/12/2010 21:58

I watched it... was Hmm at Charlie going downstairs to a noisy bar with not even a baby monitor!

Also yeah right at Ronnie's glam'ness coming out of hospital...I mean she looked rather groomed...I limped out in Vicky Pollard style jog bottoms and sports top (only thing that didn't hurt my c section scar) haggard, knackered, hair tied back, no make up, got home and promptly sobbed with the emotion of it all!!

I also certainly did not fall asleep for a nice long kip - was too twitchy about watching DS - who of course slept beautifully the times I was awake and then screeched when I tried to sleep!

saffy85 · 31/12/2010 22:13

Haven't watched it at all, (decided to vote with my remote and not watch) but is Kat in hospital without the baby? Bit unusual no? Baby usually goes with mum if she's readmitted, certainly never discharged without it's mum. Or is that just in my local maternity unit? Hmm

Sounds like a lazy script, written out by a lazy person in less than 5 minutes flat. Shame. They could have had a really credible storyline involving SIDs but far more realistic.

onadietcokebreak · 31/12/2010 22:25

Thought it was pretty awful. Boycotting it now

EvaLongoria · 31/12/2010 22:30

I am 28 weeks pregnant and decided to watch the storyline but am so upset by it. I have a 3 year old DD and I am thank ful everyday that we never had to go through something like that.

saffy85 I know what you mean. When I was readmitted to hospital a day after being discharged my daughter was readmitted as well and stayed with me for the whole 2 weeks I was back in even though she was healthy and fine. Lazy Lazy Script.

2shoes · 31/12/2010 22:30

it was so full of holes it was unbelievable.

ronnie walking around as if she hadn't just given birth!!
falling asleep, and thinking the baby would sleep!!
no one checking on her!!

charlie being left in charge of a new born baby.......ffs you wouldn't leave him to look after a empty glass

it was silly

I do think the actress(ronnie) did very well with a dire story thogh
