Eastenders Baby Death Storyline

Once again, no one can live happily ever after Sad

Ronnie's baby James, dies and she puts his body in Kat and Alfies son's crib, and steals their baby boy, Tommy.

Why oh why oh why do scriptwriters insist on portraying bereaved parents - mothers especially - as mad and deranged??? Maybe it's because they can't begin to imagine how awful the death of a child is, but really, whilst we are mad with grief, it is our own child that we want back, not someone else's stolen child. When are scriptwriters ever going to understand that?

Still, it'll be a riveting watch, no doubt.

Exactly rockinbird. EE producers kept trotting out that FSID had approved this as realistic. And there was no way they would have approved a storyline with bereavement leading to a baby-swap as realistic.

Seriously, shame on the EE producers for insinuating that FSId approved this at all.

They thought up something in very bad taste.

They failed to stop the idea (it should never have made it as far as a script).

They tried to use FSID as a shield when they started to get a lot of complaints.

And now FSID have called their bluff.

I hope their ratings take a massive hit.

Actually they did that grooming storyline (with Lauren Branning) and aspects of that whole abuse storyline with Whitney so well.

Its hard to believe its the same set of writers/producers (maybe it isnt?).

I hope tv choice has it right mrstim and they are not going to drag this out for a year after all. Thats something the producers could do at the very least, end this babyswap storyline asap and not persist with it.

chubbasmum · 30/12/2010 21:39

after seeing the births and the faces of the babies today i dont think i can watch Eastenders from now on brings back horrible memories

ChickensAreFlyingUnderTheRadar · 30/12/2010 21:42

I won't be watching for a while. I don't want to see this as entertainment.

Sassybeast · 30/12/2010 22:26

Complaint sent. No more Eastenders here either.

CottageFrog · 30/12/2010 23:12

I hope my Mum doesn't watch. She had a cot death baby before I was born, and has never got over it. Will Ronnie be on nerve pills for the next 50 years? That is reality for some.

tryingtobemarypoppins2 · 30/12/2010 23:33

We are going to have a hard time watching this in our household. DH brother James died of SID's and I feel terrible for DH, his dad and his mum who will want to avoid watching :(

tryingtobemarypoppins2 · 30/12/2010 23:34

Reality too for DH mum sadly :( Struggling 30 years on.

norfolkBRONZEturkey · 30/12/2010 23:42

And mine. My brother would have been 31 this january. Sad

laughinglil · 30/12/2010 23:51

I dont get it why can't anyone in EE be happy. Personally I think they should of let them both have the babies and become best friends. there isn't anyone with a best bud in eastenders anymore..
think this storyline is nearly as bad as the connor and carol storyline...yuck that makes me feel sick!

whoneedssleepanyway · 31/12/2010 07:41

my comment on FSID involvement was just limited to the actually cot death bit, not about the swapping bit.

i think they have gone to far this time, I think it is good when soaps deal with real issues but this is taking the p!ss

didldidi · 31/12/2010 09:00

I agree with Fallot - it just wouldn't be inkeeping with Ronnie's character if there wasn't some kind of drama surrounding the loss. Given the terrible things that have happened to her. She's already lost two babies and was so desperate for this one. Alongside the abuse, murdering of her father, betrayal by her mother?, Roxy having Jack's baby, Jack nearly being paralysed etc. etc.

tholeon · 31/12/2010 12:32

Hi

have been a loyal 'enders fan since I was a teenager but I won't be watching this. It is atep too close to home as my sister has lost a baby, and there was a time DS was very ill and I was very worried about him. And it is too much that they are doing this to Ronnie, after all she has been through already. I hated the Danielle storyline last year - why couldn't there have been a happy ending? Good soaps should have a balance of good and bad stuff, not unrelenting gloom...

beachholiday · 31/12/2010 14:08

The death of Ronnie's baby through cotdeath would seem to be enough "drama" though wouldnt it didldidi?

For the character and anyone watching.

And if the producers of EE thought this up because they think that the death of a baby is not dramatic enough, I really do despair.

deemented · 31/12/2010 14:14

See, that's it... i think, although very upsetting, the SIDS storyline would be enough. There is simply no need whatsoever for the whole baby swap storyline.

Well at least it looks like it's going to be short lived. It seems the reveal has been filmed already so it should last no longer than about 6 weeks which is better at least than the 2 years that was previously quoted.

NoseyNooNoo · 31/12/2010 17:28

I won't be watching it and if it's going to drag out for a year then I won't be watching it for a year.

NoseyNooNoo · 31/12/2010 17:34

And complaint made!

beachholiday · 31/12/2010 17:42

What is the reveal? Ive heard both that Kath realises her baby didnt die, and conversely that Kath realises it but isnt listened to, and the story continues with Ronnie not bonding with the baby she took, a major storyline for Charlie who feels responsible for Kath's baby dying etc.

Good if the reveal has been filmed already, I hope thats true.

Raahh · 31/12/2010 20:05

a friend of mine had her baby in the early hours of the morning- and i am sat here with dd2 , who is 3 months old. The whole story line makes me feel very sad, and angry. I don't care how much they claim to have researched this, the baby swap element adds a side to it that is totally unnecessary.

RockinRobinBird · 31/12/2010 20:08

The reveal is when Ronnie is found out. It stands to reason that she couldn't get away with it for very long but you never know what the eejits at EE will try to get away with.

Watching a repeat of Come Dine with Me now. Much less stressful...

beachholiday · 31/12/2010 20:20

She's found out within a few weeks? Well thats something. Thanks. Since they were crass enough to put a baby-swap story on the back of cotdeath scenes, I wasnt going to be surprised if they dragged it out.

Dont think I will be returning to watching the program again though.
