Eastenders Baby Death Storyline

1392 replies

deemented · 28/12/2010 18:30

Once again, no one can live happily ever after Sad

Ronnie's baby James, dies and she puts his body in Kat and Alfies son's crib, and steals their baby boy, Tommy.

Why oh why oh why do scriptwriters insist on portraying bereaved parents - mothers especially - as mad and deranged??? Maybe it's because they can't begin to imagine how awful the death of a child is, but really, whilst we are mad with grief, it is our own child that we want back, not someone else's stolen child. When are scriptwriters ever going to understand that?

Still, it'll be a riveting watch, no doubt.

Why all this pathetic controvercy?
Its just a fucking Soap!
Unfortunatly the reality is that there are some unfortunate individuels in this world who have had a realy crap lives, and continue.
Sorry; but these people DO EXITS, are we to try to pretend they dont, are we that SMUG and insensitive to the hidden lives of the unfortunate minority?
Judging by these comments I think so.
I think that if a few people had all the unhappy events like the charactor Ronnie, (she suffered her teenage daughter's death, after having her taken away from her soon after birth by her father who raped and sexualy abused her throughout child hood, a miscarriage and now a cot death.) That is enough to drive them compleatly MAD!
Of course most parents who have suffered berievment are not crazy and unhindged!
Anyone with an ounce of intelect can understand this, and differentiate between fantacy and reality!
Eastenders portrays possibilities in the lives of a few, it is a fictational story line; it by no meens catogorises everyone the same.
Grow up!!!
If you dont like it STOP watching it, and making detramental judgments on those who do!

deemented · 09/01/2011 14:41

Siouxienusude - You seem to bewfully involved in it , given that it's just a soap.

Perhaps a read through of the numerous threads on the issus will tell you exactly why people want to speak out against this stoyline.

OP posts:
deemented · 09/01/2011 14:43

*be awfully, that should read.

And Lissie, no... i don't want to give up. What i do want is to stop going around in circles, saying the same thing over and over and over again.

It's monotonous and bloody wearing.

Smile

i know. i didnt mean give up as such, i suppose im just fed up of trying to justify complaining over and over again because people cant be arsed to read a thread.

i started a thread with most of the points in the op and was told that it was starting to seem unhinged and one person could see why i wasnt left alone with a baby.

ffs.

CazandBelle · 09/01/2011 15:17

Siouxienusude I don't remember anyone making detrimental judgements about people who watch EE...

Although I may be forced to get out my red pen the way things are going while we're being shouted at.

and by the way, I am very grown up. Your baby dying forces you to grow up and very quickly.

lissielou where is that thread?

essenceofSES · 09/01/2011 15:34

Lissielou* - that's awful that someone said that to you. I hope you reported it.

I have been following this thread and feel quite strongly that we should be able to say that some storylines are offensive and there should be some sort of censorship if necessary.

Like some of you, I'm feeling like things are going round in circles though, and that the people that think "it's only a soap" and "just switch over" will not be convinced.

I then started thinking about where I could put all my energies more productively and I'm now thinking that maybe highlighting the tisks of SIDS and supporting any associated charities may be the way forward. At the moment, as angry as I feel, I'm not being productive!

thats an idea. can we organise something? a walk or something simillar to the mile for maud to raise money for FSIDS?

and, i had the thread pulled. didnt want to undo the good.

essenceofSES · 09/01/2011 15:42

Ooh yes - a sponsored walk maybe! How many people do you think we could get to sign up to a mile?!

Normally, I'd think about starting a thread or a FB group but not sure at the moment! I'm off out in a bit so maybe I'll have a think about it and give it a go this evening.

What do you think?

OracleInaCoracle · 09/01/2011 15:43

i think we could get uite a few tbh!

essenceofSES · 09/01/2011 15:48

I'd like to think so.

In my little "naive Ses world", I'd like to think it may even unite a few people....

Ok - I'll leave it for a few hours as I'm about to go out but I'll check in again on the thread this evening and if the general concesus is to start the ball rolling, I'm happy to. Obviously if anyone else wants to get things started in the meantime, feel free!!

HereMeRoar · 09/01/2011 16:02

What about doing the walk in one of the London parks? Lots of people could get to somewhere central... they could bring buggies etc if needed?

thefirstMrsDeVere · 09/01/2011 16:07

I was just popping on to use a few cliches and exlaimation marks but I see Souixie has used them all up.

EXITS ha ha ha.

Dont feel bad because a few ignorant people, who clearly cant form a decent argument; post utter bollocks.

Newgolddream · 09/01/2011 16:31

siouxsienusude - I find your post quite nasty and tasteless, and I would imagine someone reading it here who had lost a child would find it extremely hurtful. There are ways and means of stating your point if you dont agree with something without being confrontational. Personally its just me but I found your swearing unnecessary to.

I have been humbled reading and communicating with some of these woman, and it has given me a much better insight into why there has been such a furore - which I to struggled to understand a bit initally, but not now.

At no point have I seen anyone making a detrimental comment about people who watch EE - and I am a fan. Stick to the Daily Mail for that.

jugglingjo · 09/01/2011 16:39

Very good, Mrs DeVere !

I don't think any of the opposition have anything new to say. Can they not be directed to the answers already given earlier on the thread ? Or indeed the thread as a whole.

I'm worried about people banging their heads against this brick wall.

OTOH I'm liking this idea of a sponsored walk for FSID, and think a big London Park sounds like the perfect place for it.

Any thoughts about a good date ?

Mouseface · 09/01/2011 19:19

Evening.

Been out with my parents for dinner. Very nice Smile

I see we still have unwelcome comments?

Not a huge surprise. And look, it's all the same points raised over and over again!

Re the sponered walk, could I do a mile locally? I am disabled so have to use a crutch for walking but will glady do a mile or even more if I can to raise money.

Travelling to London would be out for me though, due to the pain of the journey (physical).

COUNT ME IN THOUGH!!!!!

essenceofSES · 09/01/2011 20:44

Right - I'm feeling brave! Think I'll start a thread asking for interest.

It may be that we organise a group walk in London and have others that can do a mile near where they live?

essenceofSES · 09/01/2011 21:06

here

HereMeRoar · 09/01/2011 21:26

Well done Essence Smile. Just one thing, and I say this very gently, I'd not link it too clearly to the Eastenders thing (not that I'm saying you would). Otherwise no doubt the BBC will put out a press release saying what wonderful work they've done raising awareness, and look now funds too .

Are there other charities working in this area as well as FSID who might benefit from support too? SANDS? Is there not a Scottish one too?

essenceofSES · 09/01/2011 21:57

HereMeRoar - you're probably right. I really hope if anything comes of our idea, it wouldn't be seen or used that way, but it probably would! At the end of the day though, as long as something positive and constructive comes out of all this, that's the main thing!

EvilTwins · 09/01/2011 21:59

Of course, the irony is, if EE hadn't done the story, then no one would have been up in arms about it and then essence wouldn't have come up with the idea in the first place. Well done for pointing that out, HMR.

Might I suggest, Essence that you actually contact FSID about it. They might want to make it an official thing - like the Meningitis Trust annual walk.

Mouseface · 09/01/2011 22:03

Bed for this Mouse.

Night all, be back tomorrow with a fresh pair of boxing gloves.

Sleep well xx

MsKLo · 09/01/2011 22:39

If it's just a soap etc etc then why are you so bothered that we are bothered Sioux?

Oh the irony of your post!

You have been very rude and have completely disregarded the feelings of parents who have lost children with your vile post . You must be very proud.

OracleInaCoracle · 10/01/2011 09:33

story being discussed on the wright stuff, have chest infection so cant caal, does anyone want to call in?

thefirstMrsDeVere · 10/01/2011 09:52

OracleInaCoracle · 10/01/2011 09:53
