And the techie colleague of Malcolm's who was hanged in the forest. What was his name...?

megonthemoon · 02/11/2010 14:24

Colin - I have never got over him being killed. I love the geeks.

traceybath · 02/11/2010 14:41

Oh yes poor colin - he was so sweet.

Lio · 02/11/2010 14:48

tracybath: Malcolm introduced Lucas to his mother as John out of habit of not giving away your spy colleague's name to your mother Grin

Although as it happens, Lucas is of course not his real name and, well, John is.

traceybath · 02/11/2010 14:49

Aha - thanks Lio!

abr1de · 02/11/2010 14:58

Oh of course, colin! He was a sweetie.

ASmallBunchofFlowers · 02/11/2010 15:00

Yes, so then there is the further mystery (presumably to be resolved next week, although possibly not) as to whether it was simply coincidence that Malcolm called Lucas/John John or whether it indicates (as he and Ruth are evidently the brains of the operation) that he had some prior knowledge of Lucas/John's less than exemplary past.

abr1de · 02/11/2010 15:02

I agree. I don't understand this bit. If even Harry didn't know about Lucas/John's past, how did Malcolm?

UnquietDad · 02/11/2010 15:03

Did anyone else think the mobile phone Lucas/John used for the bomb trigger in 1995 looked way too modern? Those flippy-top ones surely didn't come in until after 2000.

He should have had something more like this, surely.

abr1de · 02/11/2010 15:13

Good spot, UQD.

HabbiBOOOO · 02/11/2010 15:14

oh, lord. I've just had a spooks-fest on iplayer (non-sleeping baby) and bloody hell... Haven't watched it since days of tom and annoying bt lady plus keeeeeeeleeeey. And now justas I'm hooked on Lucas...

ASmallBunchofFlowers · 02/11/2010 15:16

Yes, SmallBloke and I had that very same conversation, UQD. And would it really be possible to join MI5 by doing the Day of The Jackal taking the details of a dead person thing? But, as has been remarked, if one looks too closely at the plot ....

HabbiBOOOO · 02/11/2010 15:35

Why did no-one notice the real LN was dead? Or missing?

potplant · 02/11/2010 15:37

Habbibooo - see earlier comment about not looking too closely at the plot Grin

ASmallBunchofFlowers · 02/11/2010 15:37

Indeed, Habbiboooo. Another one of SmallBloke's remarks was that it was mightily convenient that the real LN was an orphan, with no family to report him missing.

HabbiBOOOO · 02/11/2010 15:44

You've got to hope that the writers have absolutely no input from anyone actually connected with MI5. Or should I be building a bunker now?

UnquietDad · 02/11/2010 15:51

Even in 1995, MI5 would surely have been up-to-speed with having the details - including the face - of anyone wishing to join them?... Find it hard to believe he just "took over" Lucas's identity.

angels3 · 02/11/2010 15:52

jeee I'm loving spooks and particularly Lucas, but this turn in the plot makes me a little sad that he has turned in to this creepy guy who can manipulate everyone around him. BUT I do agree with your DH as I seem to remember that after spending 8 years in a Russian prison (why) he was welcomed back to MI5 by Harry who, on the spooks website is listed as 'his old friend'? Hmm seems that the plot writers have changed their mind since the site was set up? this is the link www.bbc.co.uk/spooks/aps/lucas.shtml

If Harry is his old friend - how come he does not know about his real identity? Confused

ASmallBunchofFlowers · 02/11/2010 15:55

I think so, UQD. I'm expecting (probably naively) that all the loose ends will be tied up next week.

I too am Very Upset about Bad Lucas. I've been there virtually every week since series 1 episode 1 and this is how they repay me?

Eliza70 · 02/11/2010 15:56

There were two parallel stories last night; one with Ruth / Council Man / French Assassin. And one with Lucas/John / Vaughn / Chinese.

Agree the phone looked all wrong! And somewhat implausible that no-one then looked for the John person that Lucas/John really was Confused and surely MI5 would take a photo of you at your interview and maybe notice you looked different.

Did the little boy (Ruth's stepson) not die too?

Don't think Malcolm does know about Lucas/John's past it was just a slip up, or maybe not! Can't wait until next week!!

UnquietDad · 02/11/2010 15:58

Eliza - re the boy - no, Malcolm talked the hitman out of it, if you remember. Appealed to his humanity, or something!

potplant · 02/11/2010 16:08

Perhaps 'Lucas' came back and was living a double life which is how Laila Rouass knows him as John.

diddl · 02/11/2010 16:14

angel-the real Lucas North had already passewd the entrance into Mi5 I think so "John" just took over.

Although how they didn´t notice that he looked different is odd!

So Maya must have known him before he ever went away?

Lio · 02/11/2010 16:26

Ah yes, UnquietDad, I'd forgotten that it was lovely Malcolm that talked him out of it, well remembered.

aquavit · 02/11/2010 16:56

oh HERE you all are (wondered why the other Lucas North thread was all quiet).

I am feeling a bit huffy. It all seems even more forced than usual to make Richard Armitage's departure possible but exciting. Whatever was wrong with a good old-fashioned nervous breakdown/death in the course of duty/exile to South America?

Talking of which, it's DEFINITELY time to bring back Tom and Zoe.
