Teens with no friends

Anyone else’s teens driving them mad this summer? they both have no friends (both autistic) I’ve been told if they are happy then thats their choice and leave the to it but it doesn’t make life easy for me. I wish they had some mates to go out with, they are sat at home every day unless I encourage them to go out somewhere but there isn’t much for teens and im running out of ideas and they don’t want to do most things, everything is expensive, days out cost a lot, they are also clearly conscious is being seen out with their mum as if they see anyone from school they get embarrassed. I know if they don’t want friends I should respect that but they spend the whole time sat at home winding each other up. Now is when they are suppose to be independent off doing there own thing. Anyone else have a teen with no friends?

But ok - it would seem that you’re leaving the thread feeling positively blessed about the situation. To the rest of us it sounds very depressing.

Ages after yes i didnt say days you made that up, anyway yes im leaving this thread as bored of being told my 12 year old autistic child is a domestic abuser

I dont think it's realistic for them to expect to never see kids from their school.

Presumably they have to manage seeing kids at their school every day monday - friday during term time so why is it such a huge issue during the holidays? They dont have to speak to them?

Go in sen forum, im a parent on there, and you will be advised by majority that your young teen controlling you in this manner is not autism but rather behaviour that is being indulged by a parent who doesn’t want to address it

There would have to be a seismic shift and the op isn’t willing to make even tiny changes so a seismic shift if unlikely

I just wanted to say I completely understand where you are coming from. My 15 year old doesn't go out at all, won't go anywhere without me and is neuro diverse. I thinks its hard for people to understand if they don't live it.

My son does have a couple of friends but he is educated at a specialist school 20miles away so none of his friends are local. My son is also very black and white so school people are for school, not for seeing outside of school.

All I can say is it can sometimes improve a bit over time. My son can now be left home alone for short periods of time which has meant I can pop out if I need to. Not over mealtimes but I can now go out for a bit in mornings or afternoons.

Hang in there, it sounds like you are doing the best you can with them.
