My god please someone tell me that this is normal.

It’s like the toddler years of coat-neglect has come full circle.

I suppose at least he agreed to leave the house?

Aww, bless him. It’s not easy being a teen, is it?

ShrillSiren22 · 08/08/2022 17:13

My 10yo was sat on the beach in Spain in a hoodie with the hood up earlier today looking like he was in physical pain at being out in the sunlight. They’re lovely.

newlabelwriter · 08/08/2022 17:13

all sounds very normal. My DS wore his parka every day during 30 degree weather last year. This year is in shorts and t shirt. Think he was a bit body conscious.

Whadda · 08/08/2022 17:14

It never did Kevin and Perry any harm 😃

TheBitterBoy · 08/08/2022 17:44

My DS, also 14, had to have his fleece joggers and sweatshirt hidden from him on holiday in Turkey last week to prevent him overheating.

SudocremOnEverything · 08/08/2022 17:46

Oh. They’re ridiculous.

my advice is to take photos. In years to come, the parka on the beach days will be worth the visual reminder.

CrapBag39 · 08/08/2022 17:47

Leave him to it. They’re so mixed up at this age generally they grab on to the silliest things to gain a bit of control.

TokyoSushi · 08/08/2022 17:48

That's exactly it! The toddler years of coat neglect coming full circle!

ProfessorInkling · 08/08/2022 17:52

Oh, mumsnet. Nearly 15 years of reassurance and support. Thanks vipers 😃

I had to physically pull DS socks off his feet on the beach in Greece one year

They're are so weird these teens sometimes

Kiitos · 08/08/2022 17:54

I came here to say he’s just doing what Kevin and Perry did and someone’s beaten me to it 🤣🤣

35965a · 08/08/2022 17:55

Normal, for sure.

PutinIsAWarCriminal · 08/08/2022 17:56

Mine insists on wearing a t shirt with a thick over shirt everywhere, then constantly moans about the heat and rushes inside hissing like a vampire when the sun comes out. Joy.

NeedToLeaveNow · 08/08/2022 17:59

Funny little things aren't they

Saucery · 08/08/2022 18:02

They just don’t have a working thermostat Grin

MamMedusa · 08/08/2022 18:06

We live in Cyprus. DD refuses to sleep in anything other than her Oodie & takes her thick fleecey blanket to the beach instead of a towel.

Seen secondary school kids walking to school in hoodies in 45 degree heat before now.

EquallyDivided · 08/08/2022 18:33

Mine’s the opposite, won’t wear a coat of any description unless it’s below zero. Went right through secondary school without ever wearing a jumper or blazer.

Els1e · 08/08/2022 18:33

I’ve just seen one of the neighbourhood teens go out with his girlfriend. She is wearing a sort of long string vest and sandals. He’s got a hoody, under a puffa jackets, jeans and big boots. He must be cooking. 🥵

TommySaid · 08/08/2022 18:38

Oh wow I’m glad my DD isn’t the only one that does this!

Its awful feeling so self conscious about the way they look but hopefully it won’t last too long!

MineIsBetterThanYours · 08/08/2022 18:53

Is your ds wearing a coat in winter?
Because mine will wear a jumper when it’s hot in summer but will be in shorts and tshirt in winter when it’s cold ConfusedHmm. Even his older brother is telling him it’s crazy!

ProfessorInkling · 09/08/2022 17:38

UPDATE:

He wore shorts today. He is with his dad, who sent me a photo captioned 'no filter or photoshop' 😆

Initially, he paired said shorts with his trusty jacket.

But this was shed when he WENT IN THE SEA 🙌

SudocremOnEverything · 09/08/2022 17:39

Well that is impressive. 😁

MaChienEstUnDick · 09/08/2022 17:41

I bought mine a new jacket in an attempt to stop him wearing his winter-weight coat. I'm worried he's going to get heatstroke.

Didn't work. He did deign to take his hat off though.

They're such weirdos.

JeanBodel · 09/08/2022 17:48

I am so glad it's not just my child. This year he is refusing to wear shorts. In light of the heatwaves I have been forced to hide all his joggers. He now wants to live in jeans. Sometimes I can get him into a pair of cargo trousers.

Beamur · 09/08/2022 17:53

Man's not hot...
