But I’m not allowed to reciprocate as that’s ‘mean’

Who ever thought that miming to music on my headphones was a failing? 🤷🏼‍♀️

I have occasionally thought ‘I wish you joy of the teenager you are creating’ when I see some of the interactions between young children and their compliant, enabling parents.
Thought, mind. Not said.

I can honestly say I wouldn't be here if I spoke to either of my parents the way your teens are speaking to you all. Unfortunately I couldn't really confide in my parents or be truly honest with them about my life. I think there's a middle ground to be found between total permissiveness and authoritative.

My daughter called me a fucking psycho last night because I questioned her about her apparent need to have a designer handbag to go to uni with. She’s been vile to me recently.

17 year old tells me I always lecture her and have a go as I am not happy in my life and bored.
And she thinks I say things on purpose to make her feel bad.
Sad as I want nothing but best for her.
When she in primary school we had a brilliant relationship but now very tense at times.

Yeah my daughter called me a fucking psycho yesterday because I thought her boyfriend had drugs at our house but I was mistaken thank goodness.

My teen usually pints out my faults quite subtly- like offering to pay for my plastic surgery once she earns enough money. I had no idea I needed plastic surgery before her kind offer.

And when teens are nice, it’s like the skies and cleared and the sun is shining on you x

I quite agree. Instilling respect is important but I'm also glad I never retorted to my DD that she was "fat and ugly" as I doubt we would be as close now if I had. They are people too!
