Socks and Sliders

What are your thoughts of socks and sliders. My two boys (15/12) have gone crazy with this and want to wear socks (Black or white only) and their adidas or SuperDry sliders to the shops and sometimes out with friends. Is this the new fashion? Growing up for me it was Sliders and no socks or you'd only get funny looks with socks. Is this normal fashion

Yep, mine too! DH is astounded by this and has tried in vain to tell DS1 that it’s not a good look and that we spent many years laughing at people who wore socks with sandals.

Myneighboursnorlax · 14/08/2020 11:39

Yep, it’s a popular look at the moment.

TeenMummy · 14/08/2020 14:21

I'm glad it just not my two then. Crazy new fashion look

It goes against everything ive ever known fashion wise but seems to be a popular look

Plus it looks very comfy

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 14/08/2020 14:28

Oh I had this with DS too! I didn't want him going out looking ridiculous and having the piss taken. If its the trend I'll back off (but silently snigger)

Socialdistancing · 14/08/2020 14:29

Yep this is the way to wear them

anothernewone · 14/08/2020 14:38

Its not new, but yeah this is how they're worn now

NorthernSpirit · 14/08/2020 16:34

This is (sadly) all the rage - driven by footballers who do it.

Personally I think it looks ridiculous!

Staywithmemyblood · 14/08/2020 17:47

I love wearing socks with my Birkenstocks (around the house) as it's so comfy, much to DD(15)'s dismay. She refuses to accept I'm now on trend! 💁😂

FinnyStory · 14/08/2020 18:02

I work in a PRU and I'd say that's what they were almost all wearing last term (we were open as all our kids are considered vulnerable).

Have to say though that I suspect that it's a look favoured by teens who fit the typical demographic of children at a PRU. My own boys 17 & 19 don't do it and I haven't noticed it among their friends.

NellyJames · 14/08/2020 22:32

@FinnyStory, that’s a little rude! Hmm

FinnyStory · 15/08/2020 08:03

Just an observation. It's also not new. They were doing it last summer too.

LaChatte · 15/08/2020 08:12

I'm sorry, I think it started here in France, there's even a song about it called Claquettes chaussettes. It's been around for a good few years now.

PleasantVille · 15/08/2020 08:14

It's not new where I live either but it is pretty common. It's not to my taste but pretty low down on my fashion crime rating.

Bagelsandbrie · 15/08/2020 08:17

They’re all doing it here. We live in a very middle class rural town in South Norfolk so it certainly doesn’t fit any particular demographic! HmmGrin It’s just fashion!

WingBingo · 15/08/2020 08:18

Not a look I’d ever consider but I did buy some sliders at the beginning of summer, by god they are comfy.

Too hot for slippers so they are perfect.

NewNewt · 15/08/2020 08:19

This has been a thing for sometime. Driven by footballers I reckon too. Also a thing in private schools so not just a PRU thing.

WhattheHishappening · 15/08/2020 08:22

I think you should start wearing dazzling white socks with your sandals when you all go out! Even better, buy yourself a pair of crocs!

Northernsoullover · 15/08/2020 08:26

What's with the sports socks worn pulled up with the shorts (and sliders) too? I was in a coffee shop and a young man came in. He was incredibly handsome and I looked down at his feet and saw that abomination. In my day he would have been the object of ridicule. I'm trying to think of a bad mans fashion from my youth and the worst I can think of is the curtains (hair). Womens fashion on the other hand... Confused I could write a tome on dreadful fashion Grin

WhattheHishappening · 15/08/2020 08:26

Socks and sandals are very comfy!

Socks and Sliders
Northernsoullover · 15/08/2020 08:28

sorry I should have been clearer. Its the socks being pulled up the leg that makes it worse. It would look better (imo) if the socks were at least ruched.

googybob · 15/08/2020 08:28

It's really old influenced by American athletes & the hip hop scene. I know it became mainstream again a few yrs ago.

Bagelsandbrie · 15/08/2020 08:29

The whole point of the socks pulled up is that they have to be branded - Adidas, Nike whatever. It’s to show the brand off.

WhattheHishappening · 15/08/2020 08:33

He was incredibly handsome and I looked down at his feet and saw that abomination.

I feel this way whenever I go into Urban Outfitters with my DC.
It’s like they’ve taken every single one of the worst fashion mistakes ever made during the ‘70s/‘80s/‘90’s and put them all in one shop.

Its trying to be retro but kind of getting it a bit wrong Grin
