So I made a big deal of putting on wellies, me aswell, and anoraks (for want of a better word) and we sloshed into town. Bought books with Sunday school vouchers, pansies, compost, new hoody for dc1. Came home passed the cinema, Toy Story 3 on after we come home from holiday, in Sep, so all well with the world. Total spend today, 1st day of holiday, £90. How am I going to survive???
Have planted and will take them later in the week. They look nice, with a cyclamen in the middle.

Off to prepare for friend's visit. Have soup on the go and crumble. Maybe some wine? Rude not to..?

DolceeBanana · 19/07/2010 16:46

So, are you getting skirt, LTEC?

Weather change bloss, if any consolation...decidedly dull again and chilly so have warmed up with oversized breton and linen trews...and made fish pie

Had La Redoute mini brochure today and lots of lovely things....

DolceeBanana · 19/07/2010 16:53

Yes, NY, they do go through phases don't they...?

Bloss - glad you had good day, and enjoy friends' arrival! Yes, agree rude no to...

monkeysmama · 19/07/2010 17:00

Hey girls

Was very sad not to make Saturday. My sis was baby sitting (dp away again) but hadn't warned me that her dislocated shoulder is still in a sling and v sore. She turned up valiantly but no way I could leave my boisterous 2yo with her! I was very sad but made us both feel better with a massive Japanese takeaway and some nice wine.

Bloss I hate that grave fuss malarky. I've had very stupid comments over the "overgrown weeds" where my dd1 was laid to rest. I've planted wild flowers there - poppies, lavender, wild daisies, rosemary. My feelings about her, and indeed my grief, can't be contained in some pretty pretty flower display. You do what you want to and don't even think about them. One of my close bereavement friends puts cuddly toys on her son's grave & can't understand why I don't do the same. Each to their own. It's no one else's business. I think your plants will be beautiful.

I'm sat in my garden in my taupe asos cotton jumpsuit and am about to go and prepare a Campari while dd has a nap. Mate coming over later. The one who said I need Botox. Can't wait.

LetThemEatCake · 19/07/2010 17:21

cor, what a scorcher. Have been all day at the park paddling pool with friends, dc now exhaustedly slumped on sofa watching Charlie & Lola.

a handful of kids there on their scooters in the pool. Whizzing around. Thoughts?? I was getting annoyed as it meant that 9mo ds couldn't safely sit and splash in the shallow (3cm, max) bit but wondered whether I was just being a party pooper - I mean, I should ideally be with him constantly but obv the other 2 needed my attention from time to time ... and in any case, my friend's dd had her foot run over by one of them. The scooter mums seemed blissfully unconcerned however - what do you think?? Out of order or no?

MM and bloss - as always, am in awe of your dignity and bravery.

Dolce - probably won't get the skirt. Wouldn't get enough wear out of it. On which note, libra my Louboutins are languishing in the wardrobe, must invent more occasions to wear them!

One such occasion will not be this, but ... I have been approached by a label about doing some writing for their website. Argh!! I have an interview!! I have not had an interview in, gawd, 8 years or so??? Help meeeeeeeeeee. What to wear, for starters???

OP posts:
FritziGreenEyes · 19/07/2010 17:25

cake - Oh, interview is exciting. Well done!

LetThemEatCake · 19/07/2010 17:27

btw, am today wearing UO combats, khaki tank, gold glads and ASOS owl necklace. MM and ABO also have it - am thinking we should all get it. Owl symbolising 'wise' with the 'avid' being taken care of by the mere fact of the purchase!!!

Uber quick post from me!

Reine - oh no, not offended AT ALL re comment on IVF and twins - your comments were true. Not sure why I did free association re "ours aren't, but its true there are more twins due to treatments and that QC are good". It wasn't the most succinct post. Sorry you then felt bad!

Right, DD v emotional, have to run...

carciofi · 19/07/2010 18:27

LTEC, well done on getting the interview. Older kids go around on scooters in our local paddling pool too and it annoys me, though I haven't yet said anything.

MM, am sure you do not need Botox!

AllBuggiedOut · 19/07/2010 18:39

Ooh yes, hurrah for owls! Mine got lots of compliments on Friday.

I love the All Saints skirt LTEC

And mm I really want a campari now you have mentioned it! Will have to make sure some gets added to next Ocado order...

blossoming · 19/07/2010 20:29

Sorry you've had to go through that monkeysmama. I'm sure it's a beautiful place you've created.

Campari? Scorcher? Pah! We've just been for a bike ride after supper. It's heavy drizzle but muggy. Fun though but late for dc1 who will still wake up early.

I hate irresponsible parents when I'm out.

Zembo · 19/07/2010 20:47

Cake well done on the interview! I've only just posted a comment on your blog to say you're destined to make your millions from writing. Lets hope its some kind of prophecy - it happens to me A LOT. I dreamt my sisters GCSE results the night before she got them and I was right for all of them

Bloss & MM thanks for sharing - one of the reasons I love this thread.

NotYummy - your DD is just beautiful and the cake is fab. Well done daddynotyummy! My DD had a graduation from nursery too - it was totally OTT, in a hotel (!!) with performance by kids, photos in newspaper etc etc

notyummy · 19/07/2010 20:59

ltec - well done on the interview! Will you wear a suit or is that too formal?

Libra- agree the dress is busy; I couldn't pull it off , but I think she does overall.

Hot here today. Managed a 7 mile run but wasn't feeling the love....

Ordered a maxi, some belts and bags today. On the iPhone so linking tricky but will try later.

RedBlueRed · 19/07/2010 21:09

BunnyMother glad you are feeling better about the idea of twins, for some reason I have just clicked on your profile - your little girl has got the most beautiful eyes hasn't she? I think she will break some hearts!

Apuski very glad to hear the weight is going in the right direction. Hoping the jaundice clears up quickly too.

NotYummy, the cake looks very professional and what a pretty birthday girl!

Blossoming you are not along witht he terrible weather - it is torrential rain here and I had to postpone DS' birthday bbq until next weekend. I could have coped with rain (up gazebo!) but it just wasn't that warm infact I was back to jeans and woolies this weekend.

Glad the meetup was a success, less so the delays on the way home.

I think a shopping trip meetup is a very good idea, I would love to see my style gurus in action but I think like Reine I would struggle, my shyness and lack of confidence would make it a fairly stressful situation for me.

First day at new job was good, they seem to have a less strict business dress code than my last place so I can flex my style muscles a little (what I have of them that is). Plus they mentioned a dress down Friday so I'm really looking forward to that!

notyummy · 19/07/2010 21:14

Ooh, well done on surviving the first day Cain! Always nerve wracking.

I am sure that everyone is a bit nervous when meeting up ( I am sure I will be if I make it!) But we have lots in common and hopefully once the first few minutes are over ( and perhaps a glass of wine drunk...) then we will all be fine.

thanks everyone - especially Zembo - oooh, I hope so!! Imagine if I could get rich from a combo of writing and clothes - my dream life!!

I think not a suit, too formal - I'm reluctant to say which label as you never know who's reading but it has been linked to on here before (by Bloss and OWW, iirc) and is, you know, long-established and stuff. I think I need to look fashionable and smart but deffo not directional iyswim.

BTW notyummy my dh did a film with Naomie Harris last year in which I did a scene (I played her best friend!!) - she is very beautiful and lovely but OMG, her jeans. Lucky if I could get an arm into one of the legs I had only just had Master C however

Glad first day went well Cain!! Honestly, no one would have any need to feel shy at an A&W meet, can't tell you how lovely everyone was. I was very lacking in confidence as the elevator whizzed me inexorably up to the 32nd floor but was instantly put at my ease, despite the glamour.

this is the maxi ordered today

Thought it might work with a belt and some new season boots- lace up perhaps. Will see when it arrives.

notyummy · 19/07/2010 21:21

Yes, she does look very slender!

Glad you had a good first day at work cain.

Another Spanx question re. size. I would say that I am a size 10. Normally would get a medium but read some reviews which said they had to go down a size with Spanx. Any advice?

RedBlueRed · 19/07/2010 21:42

Ltec an interview! How exciting. Will be crossing everything for you.

I think in one's mind a situation can be built into somthing terrifying which in reality it just isn't. You are all talking about the evening and each other with such warmth, I suspect anyone's nerves were settled very quickly.

notyummy · 19/07/2010 21:45

I would go down a size Fritzi.

FritziGreenEyes · 19/07/2010 21:50

Thanks notyummy, I thought so too.

Zembo · 19/07/2010 22:01

Glad to hear first day went well Cain

Does anyone have a code for figleaves, must get round to ordering some spanx so that I can wear the VW dress.
