In reference to a question by ltec the other day.

OP posts:
VerityBrulee · 16/06/2010 22:05

Zembo I would be delighted if someone told me I had a beautiful anything - teeth would do fine thanks

Carciofi good haul, glad you got a red bag at last, it's lovely.

Mumsnut you have a great memory. it was me who likes the MV sequins, trying to cut back on spending though so not cliking. Thank you though

Tracey ds2 did that on us once, managed to get out of cot by climbing onto nearby chair and arrived in kitchen much to my surprise, he was about 18 mths at the time, so wathch where you place your furniture! I have some lovely Lanvin-esque ribbon neecklaces from J Crew via US ebay.

Esher I totally agree about people making an effort. I was waiting at the traffic lights the other day, when this woman walked by looking incredibly elegant, to I told her so and she was delighted. I think it's really cheering to see people putting a bit of thought into what they wear, rather than grabbing the first thing to hand in the morning like I do

Weather is lovely here, it is such a treat to be wearing summer dresses that have been sitting forlornly in the wardrobe for the last few years.

traceybath · 16/06/2010 22:06

Zembo - I think its a lovely compliment .

MM - I think legs and cleavage are fine at a wedding. And your lunch/dinner sounds delicious.

Have you got some good books for your holiday to engross yourself in?

Are you pleased with your new kitchen?

LetThemEatCake · 16/06/2010 22:30

Zembo I think that's a fabulous thing to say. I love giving compliments to random strangers when I see something in them (or on them!!) that I admire and always find it slightly sad that people are so taken aback by them.

But your generosity of spirit is something that shines through both here and on FB so I am really not surprised that you would have said something so lovely.

eshermummy · 16/06/2010 22:51

OOOH forgot to say - Tracey they had black bib necklace with old gold beads and black ribbon ties in Zara (in my branch hanging by tills) - £19.99 iirc.

LetThemEatCake · 16/06/2010 23:06

also tracey - have been shredding for the last week or so and swear the indent is disappearing . Shape much sleeker all over.

Also - inspired by you, I bought this and it is one of the most flattering and fabulous pieces of clothing i have ever owned, which amazes me. So thanks

LetThemEatCake · 16/06/2010 23:28

LOL at bloss and the shred tenas!!

have been relieved to find that my pelvic floor seems intact. Less thrilled about my utterly puny arms. Ouch ouch ouch.

Zembo · 17/06/2010 06:15

Morning everyone!

Cakey Thank you [blush, now that really is a fabulous compliment . You've hit the nail on the head (not about my generosity of spirit ), the recipient of my comment did look really taken aback and an awkward pause in our coversation followed. To put things into context she probably thinks I'm a freak /stalker anyway cos I approached her asking if it was her that I'd seen in a restaurant in another part of town a few weeks ago - and yes it was her. I don't forget faces and have loads of 'I've seen you somewhere before moments' all the time! Hope you're getting some time to yourself (to shred) now you're mums around .

Zembo · 17/06/2010 06:17

that should be 'your' mum - a bit early in the day for grammar (sorry Roman)

OllieWollieWoo · 17/06/2010 07:28

Morning! I things its lovely to give other people compliments - just think how good you feel is someone does it to you! I'm all for it! I like to think of us W&A ladies spreading a little happiness around UK/Europe withour compliment giving! Sounds like an Oprah tyle crusade but ykwim! I also sometimes ask people where they got something from - sadly this only seems to happen to me when I am wearing something from Primark!

Guess what I am doing this evening??? The Hague has an annual shopping event where the shops in the centre stay open until midnight!!!! Shoptastic! Going with a friend but won't stay out that long! They have a huge catwalk outside 2 department stores and lots of freebies given out etc. Think it gets v busy tho so I may just end up getting all hot and bothered and hide in a bar with a stiff drink!

DH brought himself an itouch yesterday so hopefully I will be able to keep up with this thread when we go on holiday on Friday! I brought some cute navy pumps - on sale but being a Dutch sale there was only 9 euros discount! Grrr! Also got a lovely drapey coral coloured tank from H&M and a blue and white stripe cami. All set for my hols now!

AllBuggiedOut · 17/06/2010 08:01

What fun oww - have a great time!

I've also started shreding, and sadly I share bloss's weakness rather than LTEC's

Woke up this morning convinced that it was Friday so came to check NAP - but now realise it's Thursday. Oops! What time do we expect the sale to start? Am thinking of this which I love but fear may be (a) too silvery and (b) too shapeless and these.

FritziGreenEyes · 17/06/2010 08:34

Morning all! Just tried to log into my computer at work by typing in "fritzigreeneyes" Still a bit tired and it is a rainy day here. I'm back in jeans, breton top, flowery scarf and Bloch flats.

oww and zembo - I also love to give compliments to random people I see on the street. DH finds it a bit strange, too, but DD has picked it up and told her friend's Mum last week that her skirt was lovely. The way she said it was really genuine and it made me kind of proud.

mm - Hope you enjoy your new kitchen! Just turn up the music and think of the cleaning as an alternative form of exercise That sometimes works for me, but not very often. Will you have a first special meal to celebrate?

tracey - Not sure what type of necklace you are after, but I have often found great jewellery from this website. Some stuff is ugly but if you have some time to browse you can find real gems. And most of it is not expensive.

everything - I also love the Sartorialist! His girlfriend's blog is also great. And she is just so beautiful and the clothes, the clothes...

LTEC - Love your new Blochs! Hope you have a great time with your Mum. Your DCs must be thrilled to have her nearby now.

abo and bloss - It it is any consolation I have a weak pelvic floor and the opposite of Michelle Obama's strong toned upper arms. ((whispers)) I did one session of the Davina DVD two days ago and my arms still hurt. ((runs away))

DolceeBanana · 17/06/2010 08:48

Yes, I agree it's lovely to compliment someone. I feel the urge sometimes, and people are usually pleased. Why do some people feel uncomfortable...? I'd be ...

Tracey - Bea sounds v mischievous ! I actually thought the other night as P is quite an active little soul, that we should drop the side down on her cot! ...I'd caught her doing a sort of 'plank' yoga pose! She's 8 months! She's saying Mama and Dada now, sooo cute aren't they at this age!

My DH is making noises about a new mountain bike...so completely understand...oh, well, what's good for the Goose...

Right, day 1 of the Dukan....could do with some oat cakes this morning though as had couple of glasses at book club! Very naughty! Read through book and yes, silly me, all fits into place! Makes sense and seem to know what i'M doing...dead exciting!

How's Tulpe ? Wasn't it this week she had the tummy tuck? Hope you are well Tulpe and that it's all gone perfectly...let us know how you are!

Roma...brave! My size 0 6 SIL who's 5' 10 is visiting this weekend (gulp!), so will let you know what an enhancement looks like on that sort of frame! We do not know what size she's gone for... (can't really ask that on the phone, can you?!)...but previously I know she was an AA on a good day...so has always had issues.

Cake that is a beautiful playsuit!

DolceeBanana · 17/06/2010 08:51

Although I should say Tracey that I am encouraging a new bike for DH, so that I can liberally indulge without too much of a guilt complex.. !

monkeysmama · 17/06/2010 08:58

Morning ladies

Fritzi thanks for the cleaning suggestion. Have decided to wait for dp to come home and we can do it together! I am sure he'll be overjoyed I've waited for him. I suggested a first special meal and dp thought I'd gone crazy! We are going away late tomorrow so think we will wait until we get back to start cooking in it but I am definitely going to make something lovely and tasty.

TMI alert but since I had dd my periods have been awful and am really feeling it today. I feel like I've spent the night being pummelled. They've also started lasting ages which is great just before holiday.

I had never heard of Bloch but my sister got some lovely purple ones in TKMaxx. They look great and she says it is like bare feet.

Tracey glad you think the dress will be ok. I really like it. Thank you very much for suggesting it .

Where would I get a plain black wrap from? I have no idea where to look!

Have fun tonight OWW.

I am another random complimenter and like people making an effort. It makes me happy to say something nice to someone and to see then smile. We always had "Sunday bests" we'd wear to see our nanny and grandad every week, even in the hippy house I grew up in - nothing massively formal just something a bit nicer (we got to choose what that was). I have a major hangup with being inappropriately dresssed now. I hope I don't transfer it to dd and try to be relaxed with her. She is only 2 of course but I suggest an outfit, persist when she says no and if it takes a third attempt I let her choose rather than insisting. I quite like her zany style and refusing to allow any character clothing into her wardrobe pays off when she gets to choose.

Right, been up since 5 so nap time already.

hellsbelles · 17/06/2010 09:06

Zembo - I agree with the others. A genuine compliment is a lovely lovely thing. Even if she seemed a little shocked at first (people are - compliments are sadly such rare things)...I bet she thought it over afterwards and it made her smile inside.

I've got to get the strapless bra that was mentioned on here so I can start wearing some of those gorgeous playsuits.

I saw one of my best friends yesterday (I hadn't seen her for a couple of weeks) and she was shocked (in a good way) about the amount I have lost. She's starting the diet t/m! I'm wearing skinny things that have languished in my wardrobe for a while now. It does feel nice.

At the risk of repeating myself and boring everyone (as usual)...my preview nap sale ends at 12pm on the 18th...so I assume the real one opens soon after that. Hope that helps.

DolceeBanana · 17/06/2010 09:31

Oh Hells you must look lovely...what are you aiming for as your ultimate!? And, how long on the cruise for you?

Romanarama · 17/06/2010 09:33

Hello everyone - OWW the shopping night sounds brilliant. MM I think I'm the greediest one on the thread - I had a giant slice of cheesecake for a snack yesterday afternoon after spotting it looking delicious and unloved in the bookshop café while buying some bday pressies for kids. Lovely.

I'm buying that Asos jumpsuit now too after cake's eulogy to its marvellousness.

I fear the nap sale is going to be a wallet tragedy. Just spent 450 euro on megafantastic-grows=the-coffee-for-you nespresso machine plus the selection pack of 250 coffees. It's a birthday pres for dh

MarshaBrady · 17/06/2010 09:33

Well done Hells! Me too on the wardrobe, and am enjoying even wearing stuff I usually wear as it looks different on now.

Good luck Dolce

I like giving compliments, I seem to be surrounded by beautiful women so it's not hard to think nice things about them. (Plus I am over effusive about friends who are successful eg running their own business as it is rare and they are talented).

There are a few men around, but mostly it is women these days. So different to being at work I think.

DolceeBanana · 17/06/2010 09:34

Just had a really funny moment- was preparing snack for DS and Dd and absent mindedly popped a grape into my mouth, remembered in the nick of time, and popped it back out! Just goes to show .......!

OllieWollieWoo · 17/06/2010 09:35

Meant to say I've ordered Dukan and will start on return from holiday - along with Shed - which I am not looking forward too quite so much! Love the thought of loosing indent and a bit off the top of my arms!

Dolcee - if you are still in the mood for some oatcakes, here is a very easy recipe for oatcakes a friend gave me - she says its foolproof but delicious!

Oatcakes

Combine 125g medium oatmeal with a pinch each of salt and bicarbonate of soda and one teaspoon of butter, then add enough hot water to bind all together to make a stiff paste.

Preheat the oven to 180C/gas mark 4. To shape the oatcakes, scatter dry oatmeal on to a board and roll out to a thin round sheet. Work quickly, because the dough will be sticky and you will need to keep flipping it over, dusting with more oatmeal to prevent sticking. Use a plate to cut a round, then transfer to a lightly greased baking sheet. Cut into quarters and bake until crisp and slightly curled at the edge. Eat hot, with butter and cheese, butter and jam or perhaps smoked fish and curd cheese.

OllieWollieWoo · 17/06/2010 09:37

Hells - please can you link to the magic bra again - I can't find it and need one!!! Thanks.

Romanarama · 17/06/2010 09:37

Oh yes the boob thing - have it booked for Nov 8, so will report then if W&A is still going strong! But I'm only going for a B instead of my nearly-A. Mine aren't saggy exactly, but just deflated to flat post pg/bf. I'm not sure that others will notice much at all really, as I nearly always wear padded bras for shape now, but I want them back how they were once upon a time. I wouldn't like to have really big boobs, real or otherwise.

MarshaBrady · 17/06/2010 09:40

Ha Dolce! It is a whole new mindset (interesting to see how much has sugar seemingly innocent things have, tinned tomatoes for instance the buggers!). If dh is around I ask him to taste the pasta to see if it is ready

Roma sounds great. (I like having smallish boobs too).

DolceeBanana · 17/06/2010 09:41

MM you'll feel better about the kitchen mess when you've had a blitz session...! Can also sympathise on the pre-menstrual yukkiness...mine's worse since no 3...! Always feel crap! Not fair!

Romanarama · 17/06/2010 09:41

I got this bra OWW. Very good.
