The new LV 'Maison' opens on Bond Street this week. Time to drool over those scarves!

M&S are getting Clogs in at start of July.

VerityBrulee · 25/05/2010 20:29

Evening all, I am now officially a student

Interview was at 9.30 and seemed to go well, the 2 interviewers liked my portfolio and we had a good chat about my background and interests. They were particulary tickled by my folder full of painstakingly detailed house plans I did aged 11! Anyway they said I would have a decision by the end of the week, but I got a call about 5 when I was at the park offering me a place! I am sooo pleased. Just shows you - never give up on your dreams

Marsha what a nice invitation We will have to find a way to make that into a job, brand consultant perhaps?

I'll tell you what drives me nuts abour S&B threads, apart from all the judgemental stuff. It's when someone says they really like a certain item, and would love to wear it, but they are afraid of looking muttony. Then you read down the post and realise they are 30 and a size 8. Those threads have me screaming at my laptop!

traceybath · 25/05/2010 20:31

Oh well done Verity! Thats brilliant news - you must have really wowed them.

MarshaBrady · 25/05/2010 20:34

Congratulations Verity! Really fabulous!

notyummy · 25/05/2010 20:35

Well done Verity !

FritziGreenEyes · 25/05/2010 20:36

Verity, that's fantastic! What course are you doing (interior design/architecture/...)?

VerityBrulee · 25/05/2010 20:53

Ah, thanks very much! Fritzi it's interior design, 2 year course starting in sept. Ds2 is so excited, he loves house renovation programmes on TV, we record them for him. He is hoping I'll be presenting one in a few years!

Just been brought back down to earth with a bump - I have headlice caught from dd who keeps getting them from someone in her class. I had never seen a head louse in my life until dd started school, my 12 and 10 year old ds had never had them. They are bloody impossible to get rid of.

blossoming · 25/05/2010 20:56

Great news verity.
I'm singing 'you got to have a dream...' from South Pacific very loudly across the Irish Sea!

Verity - Congratulations! What's a bit of head lice between mother and daughter?

blossoming · 25/05/2010 21:02

Obviously not great news about the headlice.

Romanarama · 25/05/2010 21:05

Congratulations Verity! How wonderful to fulfill your dreams.

Don't tell anyone, but it looks like I might have a job - workwear will rear it's head again!! I do think it matters what other people wear a bit MrsJuan, I quite often shudder at the horrible outfits in my office (there's no hip maxi vibe about the long flowery skirts).

eshermummy · 25/05/2010 21:09

Verity - congratulations on getting a space on your course and commiserations on the headlice - I sympathise as discovered earlier this week that DD1 has them again. They are impossible - we have a nitty gritty comb which we use with conditioner but DD1 has nearly waist length hair and it is both extremely timeconsuming and traumatic to do the combing. I find the nitty gritty really pulls her hair . Did a shampoo with lyoclear a few days ago, am thinking I am going to get some Hedrin as apparently that is good? Supposed to be difficult to wash out again afterwards though so am planning a super blitz of daily combing (and a few chemical washes ) over half term.

Marsha - thanks for suggesting ringing coggles - rang and spoke to lovely lady who said they would add to my existing order and they also took the discount code off even though it expired last night .

I agree re the maxi bashing threads - I actually think the opposite, that lots of people have looked really surprisingly very nice in them over the last few days. I've actually been thinking that maybe I should be upping my game at the school gates as am not now alone in my effortless style efforts!

VerityBrulee · 25/05/2010 21:09

I needed something to cheer me up Blossoming because my lovely neighbours moved out at the weekend, they only had a short term lease. I feel bereft, but at least I am no longer fighting the urge to rush to the front door every time a car stops on the street just in case it's some handsome rugby boy

Whelk · 25/05/2010 21:14

Congratulations Verity! Well done!

On the issue of food and dds, i read somewhere that food is so much more than just nutrition. Cooking for and eating with your family is also about nurturing and sharing (cue soft focus camera, cheesey music happy, laughing, healthy family....)

I try to live by this as much as I can especially recently with the loss of my friend to EDs. Sorry I hope thats not overly earnest. In reality I'm not sure how much nurture and sharing went on with today's fishfingers I was just so excited to find some that both my allergic dds could enjoy!

Just read that odd thread on maxis. I think they look fab! Also am I the only person who ever finds joy in some peoples 'sod it' attitude in wearing something they might be seen as too tight/revealing/inappropriate by that sort of snippy MN-er! I love a bit of attitude over perfection anyday!

Thats massively hypocritical as I rarely do it myself (at least I think I don't ) but I love it when others do!!

Whelk · 25/05/2010 21:17

Well done Romana too!

mrsjuan · 25/05/2010 21:18

Congratulations verity - so exciting Sympathies on the headlice - combing and conditioning is supposed to be the best way to get rid but if it were me I think I'd be tempted to use the chemicals on my own hair.

Roman - upon rereading I did realise the irony of my earnest comment on a thread where we have spent nearly 6 months discussing what each other is wearing I am probably worse because if I see anyone dressed badly I am just pleased that I look better

notyummy · 25/05/2010 21:18

Well done on thejob Roma. What will you be doing?

eshermummy · 25/05/2010 21:22

Me too Whelk I'd far rather see someone in an amazing printed maxi (even if they are a bigger size) rather than the baggy cropped linen trousers and last year's scoop neck tee tshirt with a few sequins or embroidered bits round the neckline that seems to be the uniform of school run mums of a certain age. And ime maxi wearers don't tend to wear their dresses with those bloody trekking sandals or whatever they are - bleeeugh and have usually bothered to paint their toenails too!!!!!!!

VerityBrulee · 25/05/2010 21:23

Roman that is brilliant news, it must be our lucky W&A week!

Esher, I have tried them all and I find different products work for different people - hedrin was useless for me but seemed to work for dd. I left it on overnight rather than the 10 minutes they said. Also tried full marks but it didn't work. You are right about the nitty gritty, it seems the best option, but does pull out lots of hair. Dd hates getting it done though and it takes about 40 minutes to do her hair properly. I was talking to a friend about it at the park yesterday, her dd had her first head-lice experience in preschool, and now at 11 still gets them regularly despite combing every Monday night It doesn't help that dd refuses to plait or tie back her hair, so is giving the little buggers an open invitation to jump right on to her head.

I have read lots of headlice threads here Nitmix seems to get lots of recommendations. I think I might give it a try.

Whelk · 25/05/2010 21:28

Esher - its just so much more joyful isn't it!
So all, what colour is the Wise and Avid toenail?

Whelk · 25/05/2010 21:31

Hedrin worked well for me and dd1. Wow Verity that it hard core leaving it on all night!! It made my skin crawl. Hee hee

blossoming · 25/05/2010 21:34

What a week of ups and downs verity!

My back is still out so still no exercise. Probably not helping any being hunched over a sewing machine!

OP posts:
traceybath · 25/05/2010 21:35

We just do nitcomb and conditioner every single time I wash DS1's hair. But a lot easier on short hair.

Mum at school who runs a nursery reckons to put product in their hair - so mousse/gel/hairspray and keep it short or tied back/in plaits.

Romana - well done to you too. Will that be fulltime?

Verity - I bet the lanvin shoes helped

greedygoose · 25/05/2010 21:37

Whelk, you read my mind, just thinking as I paint my toes my usual rougenoir that I could do with a change/summer colour!!

blossoming · 25/05/2010 21:40

Ooh I love my toenails. Chanel blue satin.
