The weather is great! I had a nightmare night last night with dd too - the house was like a sauna!

notyummy Off on a tangent but have you tried runkeeper.com/?

traceybath · 24/05/2010 09:21

Morning - nearly cried at drop-off at school today but had a word with his teacher and she's going to keep an eye on things. DS seemed ok though and wanted to stay for late-care after school so all a bit confusing really.

According to his teacher he's doing well academically but its the emotional/social stuff he struggles with a bit but then he is very young for his year as he's still 5 and near the end of yr1.

Anyway thanks for all the sympathy .

Today I be wearing stone rolled up chinos, leopard canvas sandals from m&s (god, they're so comfortable) and white brora shirt tucked in.

Think I'm channelling Grace Kelly in Mogambo today

Fleecy - thats so sad - DH's granny spent her last few years in a nursing home and she sort of gave up hope - was very distressing to visit her.

Go on holiday early hours of Friday - so much to get done/packed before then.

Tulpe - I so wish I'd got that red maxi dress from DP - I bet you looked fabulous!

LTEC - lol at DH preferring plungier dress - men - they're simple creatures really aren't they

Esher - you sound very glam and cakes sound yummy. I love the light chocolate cake.

However am on pre-holiday diet this week as would like to lose a couple of pounds as will undoubtedly put weight on whilst away.

notyummy · 24/05/2010 09:21

mrsj - sounds like teeth. We had 3 nights like that with dd when she cut her first two together....and (very) luckily for us, that was it for teething pain. We used to look in her mouth occasionally and go 'look! she's got another 4!!'

Blossoming - that christening sounds like DH's step-brothers wedding (his first wedding - we excused ourselves for the second!) A female guest in complete see-through clingy dress; we could see the detailed shape of her lady garden. A bride who kept screeching and swearing at the bridesmaids (amongst them her daughter.... ) Heavy drinking before and after the ceremony, culinating in the groom and his best mates being naked to Madness on the dance floor at 7pm. To top it off, I discovered that one of the guests was a very, very distant relative of DHs who he had slept with many moons ago following a similar family shin dig; now this was before we met, and I am not some sort of jealous psycho....however (a) she was very pretty (grr) and (b) she came over to talk to us and burned a hole in my silk top with her cigarette.

Lovely.

notyummy · 24/05/2010 09:26

HF - oooh, no I haven't seen that. Will explore. Maanaged a run on saturday morning, but decided it was too hot for anything but pilates yesterday. Will do something in the air conditioned gym today.

hellsbelles · 24/05/2010 09:56

oh you are all sounding so gorgeous and summery - and I'm not. I'm waiting patiently for my Cake inspired summer dresses to arrive and I bet by the time they do it'll be cold again . I tried to wear my bubble pink jcrew tee but it is very very sheer and would be indecent. So I'm gutted about that and I stupidly took off the tags so it can't go back.

Tracey - I really feel for you - it's the hardest thing. I do hope it does turn out to be a blip. The fact that he wanted to stay for afterschool stuff sounds very encouraging.

NY- I am rubbish sleeping in the heat too...I just can't do it.

LTEC - it was interesting to hear that johnny depp lookalike is possibly responsible for your body dysmorphia (I'm sorry to label it as such and don't be cross...but you are so beautiful and so far off the mark in your view of yourself!!)...I did wonder where it had surfaced from as DH sounds so gorgeously complimentary and encouraging and you always speak so warmly about your mother!

Hope you all get to enjoy this gorgeous day.

mrsjuan · 24/05/2010 10:02

Tracey - sorry you're feeling bad about your DS - he is really young for yr1 so I'm sure things will sort themselves out - good that he seemed ok & wanted to stay afterwards.

I tried on the rolled up chinos at the weekend and they made my thighs look massive and were all baggy around the crotch - disappointed as I thought they would be a good addition.

My clothes today have all been bought from different countries! Brown shorts from oz, cream vest top from Ibiza and flip flops from, well, cornwall (they see themselves as another country don't they?)

bunjies · 24/05/2010 10:11

Hi guys.

OWW - weather scorching at the moment but due to break tomorrow with storms forecast .

Feeling a bit today. Went to friends' for lunch yesterday and got very drunk indeed, drinking rose all afternoon in the sun. We arrived at 12pm and got back at 8pm . Got in and immediately fell asleep on the bed. Poor dh had to undress me. Slept for 12 hours. I don't usually drink as I find it really stalls my weight loss but had a real 'fuck it' moment and boy did I pay the price. Dh (bless him) said it was nice to see me letting go for a change and that I didn't embarrass myself so no harm done. He's such a sweetie. Luckily it's a bank holiday here today so didn't have to get up early. Anyway, had a really lovely time yesterday. Our friends have got a smallholding and so the kids had a great time playing with baby bunnies.

Wearing Boden oatmeal linen trousers with M&S pleated scoop front top in pink.

LetThemEatCake · 24/05/2010 10:53

morning all!

sympathies to all who had disturbed nights - baby L was also awake several times last night, having recently started being quite consistently good at sleeping for longer stretches.

at home this morning so am wearing khaki rolled-up shorts (M&S) with floral cami in muted pinks & greens (Zara) and gold flat sandals (Primark) Gosh, am so luxe, no? Well overdue for a NaP or m-w order!!! Will prob change to go to paddling pool this arvo as am feeling fat ... need to be very good as ditch a couple of pounds in next 2 weeks as have gorgeous glam fashiony friends arriving from Sydney ... so tracey, let's hold hands Hope all okay with ds1 and that teacher can provide some reassurance.

Made a wardrobe discovery this morning, not quite a la roma but one with possible potential ... a denim maxi from quite a £££ Sydney label called Third Millenium ... it's slit up the front and has cascading ruffles along the slit. I mean, it's denim, it's maxi, it's got that slight cowgirl/ prairie thing going on (so very now!!) .. with a plain tank tucked in, flat glads and a flash of tanned leg?? yay or nay, ladies, yay or nay?? ordinarily I would say denim maxi = fashion atrocity but this one is just that bit different ...

Mumsnut · 24/05/2010 10:57

Wallis have them in black, turquoise and purple, but not grey damnit!!

www.wallis.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CatalogSearchResultCmd?langId=-1&storeId=12557&catalogId= 20551&beginIndex=1&viewAllFlag=false&searchTermScope=3&searchTermOperator=LIKE&searchType=ALL&sort_f ield=Relevance&searchTerm=godet

LetThemEatCake · 24/05/2010 11:03

oh and meant to say, thanks for all the grey vest links, will give a couple of them a try. One gripe - what is the point of showing clothes on a website if not on a mannequin??? so much harder to visualise how they will look on, esp in terms of length ....

hells am excited & nervous about your summer frock order!! not angry that you have used dysmorphia but think prob an overstatement .. whatever it is though, I do think it's interesting that it works both ways .. lots of people out there who seem to think they are far more shapely & gorgeous than they are! And boy does the warm weather bring 'em out ....

traceybath · 24/05/2010 11:15

J crew combats in stock in stone

MarshaBrady · 24/05/2010 11:21

TraceyB I've been wanting to post this since yesterday so bit behind the times!

I think I had a down day and reported on here due to ds1 and school. There are so few boys in his class that the dynamic is quite close and intense. And the week before another little boy had a bit of a hard time.

I had a word with the teaching assistant and the school was really fabulous and they have bolstered him up completely and he seems happy and fine again. It is a horrible and stressful feeling so I hope your ds1 is ok.

Am wearing Paul & Joe checkered shirt with little flowers, which went down very well, love wearing new things as does attract the comps, with A. Wang bloomer shorts. All in all a beautiful day and feeling sanguine and happy

(although just read Ltec's post hopefully not deluded and happy!)

traceybath · 24/05/2010 11:31

Thanks Marsha - his teacher is lovely so hopefully he'll be a bit cheerier tonight.

It is so hot that I want to be outside but have so many chores to do - they may just have to wait until this evening.

LTEC - hows your DH about your weight loss? My DH was doing lots of muttering yesterday about me not eating much which was only because I'd eaten so much on saturday.

So - whose going to wear their trilby for pick up later?

notyummy · 24/05/2010 11:31

LTEC - agree that your view of yourself is far too harsh - however also agree on the sunshine encouraging, ummm, inappropriate clothes choices for some.

I went into town on saturday and there was a lot of people dressing in what appeared to be their taller/thinner/younger sisters clothes. I KNOW that sounds bitchy, and for that I apologise, but I can't help thinking that if they wore something even slightly different they would have looked so much better. I am not some drop dead gorgeous size 6 20 year old, so I try to dress to accentuate the good points. My personal bete noire is my upper thighs and bottom....so I am not going to stroll around in some Daisy Duke style shorts. Why then do so many people insist on treating me to a flash of their muffin top??

MarshaBrady · 24/05/2010 11:34

Does anyone walk around in a nice big floppy-ish straw hat?

Quite tempted.

MarshaBrady · 24/05/2010 11:36

You know I just avoid places with muffin tops. And focus on noticing the beautiful ones. So much better on the eyes.

notyummy · 24/05/2010 11:39

Wise words, Marsha, wise words.

LetThemEatCake · 24/05/2010 11:43

ooh yes, have been wearing the trilby today - only to hang out clothes, mind ...

tracey dh is an absolute nightmare about me/ food/ weight. I think he wants to be supportive but is actually just impatient and dismissive much of the time, sometimes veering towards anger ... which doesn't help. The thing is

traceybath · 24/05/2010 11:54

I just can't envisage your denim ruffly skirt in my mind but if you like it I suspect its a goer.

I have no playsuit but very much like the look of them - especially this one.

ApuskiDusky · 24/05/2010 11:55

Hello all!

I have finally made it through the last thread and this one to catch up after 10 days on holiday with very limited internet access; I can't believe how many posts!

But I'm very glad you are all enjoying the sunshine and finally getting to wear the clothes we've been talking about for months.

We had a really nice break in Cornwall, waether was dry and sunny but not all that warm, which was better for me as it meant I felt more like doing stuff. Main downer was the fact that the car broke down on our first full day (rescued by AA), which turned out to be the best day of weather - then the hire car broke down two days later (rescued by the AA), on another nice day, and we didn't get to pick up our car til the day before we came home. So we saw too much of the garage and spent too much time trawling for hire cars, which were tiny with no aircon.

When we got back, MIL was already here, primed for babysitting, so that DH and I could go to a wedding the following day. And as it was baking I changed my mind what to wear at the last minute, and resorted to white flared trousers and a Isabella Oliver portrait top, much cooler than the lace dress I had bought. And for the first time in ages I felt quite nice rather than a freak of nature! I so wish I could keep the pregnancy cleavage, it's such a novelty being able to wear lower cut tops.

And everyone was very nice to the 8 month preg lady, bringing me cushions, moving chairs and tables into the shade, drinks on hand etc. And I made it to midnight! (only because I had promised to be taxi driver for DH and some friends and didn't want to be a killjoy).

So I've been catching up on all the links, filled my basket on the Coggles site, then remembered that the bank has frozen my credit cards because of some fradulent activity whilst I was on holiday. So now I need to hope the new cards arrive before the code expires!

BTW LTEC, I saw the breastfeeding dress recommendations on the previous thread, and found the denim dress on John Lewis, but sadly has sold out at least for now, I will have to keep an eye on it. Shout if you spot any other summer tam tam equivalents!

notyummy · 24/05/2010 12:01

LTEC - Maxi sounds good, but think we have to see to judge - picture??

Re the bulimia. You are not alone, Cake, you are not alone. Not with me now, but was for many years. There is always the temptation to replace one thing with another though isn't there? Being quite restrictive with diet/food types a classic replacement, no? Perhaps your DH worries about that? And also, men have a much healthier attitude to their bodies in general so just can't understand the difficult relationship some of us have with our bodies.

Think my 'compulsion' as much as I have one now is exercise, which is generally a good thing. Still have to watch myself and avoid slipping into old ways though.

hellsbelles · 24/05/2010 12:25

NY & LTEC...so sorry to hear what you have battled with. I admit a sneaking suspicision that was the case with you Ms Cake and I'm sorry to have it confirmed (iyswim). I hope you can tell us all how we can help (if we can).

Perhaps one day it would be wonderful to hear from you if your experience has taught you how we can help our own beautiful girls (those that have DD's) avoid eating disorders...I so want my little girl to enjoy her gorgeous little body and have a healthy relationship with food.

I fear I may be one of those that has reverse body dysmorphia (not face - I'm very critical of that)...and often only realise I've put on weight when I see a horrible fat pic. However rest assured that I NEVER reveal inappropriate -fat-- flesh no matter how delusional I am

blossoming · 24/05/2010 12:58

Agree with hells. my baby dd has the mist beautiful round bottom in the whole wide world!! Just know she's going to hate it later.

ltec, you just keep healthy for that lovely family if yours.

Miserable because iPhone ate my last post where I was remembering compliments from yesterday and bemoaning the fact that my back's gone so no exercise, and stuck indoors.
Have ordered the shred DVD for a last big push before hols.
New project is beach dress in fab butterfly print.

Hi! I'm with clients today but catching up on a lunch break!

LTEC - poor you! I understand why you eat little and often then. Isn't there a five small meals a day diet somewhere? JSimp did it for a while I think - not that she's probably someone you aspire to be!], bless her! I wore my trilby all day yesterday and did contemplate wearing it again today but didn't want hat hair in the office!

I think you all know my thoughts on playsuits. I have three! One black linen, one black cotton with little white flowers and finally the one-shoulder animal print wonderfully trashy one. Like the stripe one Tracey linked to. Very cute and summery.

I ordered the Shred DVD and it came last week but I have lost it already Went to do it last night and couldn't find it anywhere. Have asked DH to keep an eye out and hunt it down for me if possible today so I can do it this evening and Wed evening.

VerityBrulee · 24/05/2010 13:54

Really quick post before school run.

Cakey I've been there too. That's why I hate restricting my diet, even if it is for medical reasons, because then you become obsessive over food and that's a slippery slope. I was lucky I met the most fantastic therepist who helped me look at life very differently. Take care of yourself.

I have been frantically finishing off portfolio. Interview tomorrow, have decided on skinny leg navy trousers, silk cream and navy stripe top, boat neck, 3/4 sleeves. So for the jacket, I can't decide

A. navy jersey with cream trim, looks a bit matchy matchy

B. raspberry pink velveteen fitted blazer, colour is good, warms my pale complexion

C. This grey blazer looks good, but a bit dull with the navy?

What do you think?

Also have to decide on shoes!

Sorry to post and run!
