Credit to Everything for the lovely new title!

Is Westfield good? It's not a million miles from my mum and dad's - should I go when in London next?

carciofi · 30/04/2010 12:30

Romana, it is definitely worth a visit.

eshermummy · 30/04/2010 12:35

I dream of Westfield.......without the kids natch

Tracey - DD has settled brilliantly actually although we have had a few tears (to be expected really). She actually really likes her new school and teacher but has been finding the length of the school day very tough (at previous school too) so when I pick her up she generally is on a hair trigger. So far I think we have had a meltdown every afternoon . Obv I give the snacks asap etc etc but for DD I think the sheer effort of being good and nice all day at school is such that as soon as she is released to me she reverts to exorcist-style child !!!! Her teacher thinks she's a poppet

Have just spent 30 mins on phone to cc co - new card should be here by next Tuesday {angry] plus they have managed to get in a real pickle transferring the credits and debits over to new cardnumber - at first they told me I didn't owe them anything but sadly I knew they were wrong and it only comes back to bite you in the bum later with interest so had to gently explain "no, I do owe you money, you need to add this and this......."

Blossoming at least the dogs are muzzled I s'pose - quite a lot of slobbering (choc natch) labs tied up outside our school, both my dd's a bit scared of dogs (am not a fan myself either really, too much work, too smelly etc) so it actually gets on my nerves.

Right, off to pick up dd2 from nursery in a mo so won't be back on till this eve.
Hope you all have lovely arvo's.

bunnymother · 30/04/2010 12:48

I adore Westfield - go at least once a week. It has all the brands under the one roof, with toilets (baby-friendly ones, too) and a good food court. I seriously recommend stopping in there. Prob not the most relaxing way to spend a weekend day (gets v busy), but if you want to cover a lot of ground, I can't think of anywhere better.

DD isn't in school yet, so can't comment on the school gate situation here, but am in Kensington just near Notting Hill (God, am prob outing myself) so there are loads of nannies and glama-mummies at the playgroups and playgrounds (some mums stop into say hello while their DCs are with their nannies). I love looking at other people's outfits and jewellery and it actually makes me happy to see someone in something beautiful . God, hope DD gets some depth in her soul from DH, as clearly I am a little superficial. Sorry I can't be more help on the clique front. But I am sure I will be outraged if I am not welcomed w open arms when DD starts school! (not completely joking)

Cakey - am assuming your cleaner is badly dressed that's why you aren't thrilled that she loves your outfit. Would be surprised if its because she is your cleaner. If someone who I think has dreadful taste admires something of mine, it does make me wonder whether its ugly and I didn't notice.

everything - I don't think this thread is cliquey (am I deluded??), so no concerns from me on that. We do all talk a range of brands and greet all people and brands w enthusiasm (until they prove to be cheap and nasty. The brands I mean, the brands!! )

Boden - never heard of it before MN and don't know anyone who wears in in RL, but most of the stuff looks frumpy to me so my rule would be to avoid (w exceptions, like all good rules!). But its a good topic for S&B fightey, isn't it?!

OWW - glad little sausage is OK. Poor DS, hope it heals quickly.

Re playgroups - I really like going and go often, as DD is a go-go baby and needs constant entertainment. Too hard to do it solo at home. Not sure how I will fare w playdates, though.

blossoming · 30/04/2010 12:51

everything, it's this top in black. Perfect for an apple like me!

bunnymother · 30/04/2010 12:55

Oops, re-reading my post I don't mean that I don't talk to anyone unless they are beautifully dressed and that, as I am, I should be welcomed w open arms!! I talk to everyone quite a few mums and nannies based on how nice they are and am not beautifully dressed. I just like seeing others who are!

Romanarama · 30/04/2010 13:00

esher I tie up my golden retriever outside school . When I come out he's always got a gang of teenagers huddled around him tickling his tummy though, so I think it's OK . He's very friendly, and very S&B. Frankly a wee bit slobbery and doesn't always smell of roses though.

I heart my doggy

AllBuggiedOut · 30/04/2010 13:04

Does anybody else find Asos addictive? I am finding it very easy to order lots of stuff, especially with the free p&p and some £5 off codes I got from diet coke... And last night after several glasses of wine at my cheese party, it was so easy to pop that giraffe top that LTEC linked to into my basket and buy...

Am having a rotten day today. DS3 has drawn on the off-white walls with green felt tip, I forgot that it was coffee morning at pre-school so when I picked up DS2 had no money and, consequently, a very grumpy 4-year-old, and the quote we got for putting a wood burner into our lounge to (a) keep us warm and (b) hopefully dry out the walls and get rid of the death watch beetle is £2.5K more than I was expecting.

I am even cross that Toast haven't sent me a "we are so sorry that your hurt your fingers on our door" gift voucher so maybe I am just a little irrational today! Will check out some links in the hope that it will cheer me up!

Fel1x · 30/04/2010 13:10

bunny, i do like that top as well. will have to try next week as have opticians appt next door to big M&S!

The majority of the Mums at DS1's school gates are dressed in tracksuits (not for sports purposes!), dodgy cut jeans or combats really, mostly with trainers and baggy t shirts.
There are a handful that are similar to me with nice cut jeans, high street fashiony tops and nice shoes but we are in the minority!

During the winter I wore my biker boots over leggings to pick up Ds one day and one Mum who I only really know to say hello to said 'your boots are lovely. were they expensive?'
I said 'thanks, they were not too pricey actually, they are from New Look and leather and cost 70 pounds' cue about 5 horrified mums gathering round me to say '70 quid?!? they want to be made of gold, not leather for THAT much money' etc etc
I did laugh and just said I like shoes
They were only teasing in a good natured way and we all laughed together, but it does show the different in fashion point of view between me and most of them!!
The school DS goes to now is a pre school class and he has just got accepted into a lovely small catholic school nearby for September. I ahve a feeling it will be VERY different there. The headmistress prides herself on the childrens manners and appearance and the school uniform must be bought from a local independent dept store special range (blazer, shirt and tie) rather than being able to get 3 for 2 pound shirts from asda!

Fel1x · 30/04/2010 13:14

30% off at La Redoute all bank holiday weekend. Code is 3499

Fel1x · 30/04/2010 13:17

I like this no idea why
but is the print a sports reference? or is it just a random print?

hellsbelles · 30/04/2010 13:19

hello lovely ladies.

Oh how I've missed my dose of A&W!

Romanarama · 30/04/2010 13:24

If you wanted to, you could see a pic of his exceptional cuteness on my profile page. He has grown more elegant, but equally scrummy. (He has 2 very smart collars - avid you see )

Romanarama · 30/04/2010 13:25

should have refreshed, oops! Was talking about the dog!

LetThemEatCake · 30/04/2010 13:27

I adore Westfield. Like being back home. Such child friendly shopping.

Sorry about your card esher.

God no, not bc she is the cleaner. Have had cleaners with bags more taste and intellect than I. This one is just a tad, um, common. And not a very good cleaner. Must find new one, or do myself when mum gets here.

Am softplay. Kids happy.

Re school run/ other mums. No high heels, quite alternative/ arty. I don't feel out of place but nor do I dress like them. I get looked up and down a lot, not sure what judgements, if any, are being made

FrancesFarmer · 30/04/2010 13:28

LTEC, that dress is nice but it's nearly too good to be true at that price. I'd assume the fit is weird or it doesn't look as good irl.

Barbarelle, those Vagabonds are very cute and versatile. Thumbs up from me!

Traceybath, those shoes are a bargain and are a good, understated way to do animal print.

I only pick ds up from his preschool on rare occasions. Most of the mothers dress for work or wear boring jeans or fleeces. Yawn!

I'd agree that Boden isn't remotely aspirational. It's not that expensive either esp. when you consider that there's nearly always a discount code floating about somewhere.

Fel1x, I get that too re different points of view about what consitutes value for money. I know so many people who think anyone who pays above Primark prices is foolish (and these people would not be on the breadline or anything). Clothes are my passion and I will sometimes splash out on items I love and even when buying basics, I try to go for good quality ones. Once my aunt (who is a bit eccentric) accosted me in a library, admired my sandals and asked how much they'd cost. Me, being a terrible liar mumbled quickly (and truthfully!) that they were €200 or so and you could tell she thought I was "having ideas above my station" or some such. Bleurgh.

Romanarama · 30/04/2010 13:29

hells wear it! I really liked the way I looked, and the ds's thought the McQ tunic was 'mega coooool mummeeeeeee'

redshoesnoknickers · 30/04/2010 13:30

buggied I am addicted to asos too I actually filled a basket with the giraffe top and 2 pairs of PJs that were on sale while waiting for the kettle to boil this morning Didn't actually check out though...have been a bit spendy lately so held back!

Am luuuurving my stripy maxi today...and it's turning out quite nice too...thought i might have to change if it rained.

What is the A&W thoughts on cut out swimsuits? I am fairly hourglass with a little mummy-tummy and wondered if something like this might flatter? I don't think I could actually face it though...bit lapdancer??? I had a a bikini like this without the pink bits last year but need a new one. I need a substantial top with underwire and straps for decency when swimming with excitable children but one that doesn't make terrible tan lines...i hate swim suit shopping

LetThemEatCake · 30/04/2010 13:33

At softplay.

redshoesnoknickers · 30/04/2010 13:35

Glad you have not morphed into a ball pit LTEC

AllBuggiedOut · 30/04/2010 13:38

Am very envious of the maxi red, but glad you are enjoying wearing it

Joules central at the Montessori pre-school round here; I have a great pic of DS2 on a trip where there are about 5 different colour/vintage Joules striped rugby shirts being worn! At school there's a real mix, from fleeces and tracksuits to smart work, but rarely anybody who's wearing something that makes you look twice. That's something I miss about living in London - enjoying looking at what people are wearing!

hellsbelles · 30/04/2010 13:38

I will Roman - I promise.

Red - I am not brave enough to go anywhere near cut outs

Sympathies on the cleaner LTEC. I have a similar issue. Mine breaks EVERYTHING. Last week she managed to smash the skirting so I had to get a builder into repair it and then she completely broke the stairgate in the kitchen (there is no door so it's essential). Getting DD's food ready was a bloody nightmare till I managed to get a new one (gate not DD ) - as she spent the whole time trying to escape.

But....said cleaner keeps telling me how this is the only job she has (wonder why ) and how she is broke...and I don't have the heart to leave her jobless (though she is costing me a fortune in time and money sorting out her mess!)

Phew - sorry too long a post.

traceybath · 30/04/2010 13:38

Romana - I am not a dog person but your puppy is exceedingly cute. We have a sort of dog-free zone around the playground so dogs have to be left on the edge of the school grounds.

Oh I get looked up and down a bit too in the playground and when I had my hair cut and wore my new look pleather jacket - got lots of ''oooh you look like a teenager' - was not sure if it was meant nicely or not though .

Meeting equally fashion obsessed friend for coffee tomorrow minus the dc's - yeay.

bunnymother · 30/04/2010 13:40

Cakey - they could just be looking because they like what they see. If someone looks like a car crash, I avert my eyes quickly. Seems rude to look. If someone looks great, I (covertly) like to check out all the detail. I really like looking at lovely things/people. That's why supermodels are paid so much, and why we all flock to museums, isn't it?! My fave thing to look at is DD - she is so gorgeous I can't believe it. Must be hormonal...

Roma - if I saw your dog tied up at school, I would be tempted to run away w him - he is such a beautiful dog!

hellsbelles · 30/04/2010 13:40

Tracey - v. jealous of your fashion lunch!
