well, was able to bu lots in Cornwall where surf shops abound - sunnies, flip flops etc. Am thinking more clothes though ... he keeps banging on about wanting me to 'style' him but then laughs in horror and disbelief when I show him what would work well on him

bttw, was reading your New Look jacket thread ...am I right in thinking that someone called SS used to be a type of fish??

My DS is two today! Happy Birthday Sebastian! Can't believe I no longer have a baby in the family!

Just popping in before family descend for his party. Have made the light chocolate cake, banana and cinnamon loaf and the vanilla cupcakes. Plus chocolate cookies that are full of butter and sugar!

LTEC think I saw some skinny khakis like that in Zara but bit more motorcycle-y with the textured bits on the knees, although all the one colour.

LetThemEatCake · 11/04/2010 15:00

Happy Birthday Sebastian!! hope the party goes well fleecy and thanks for the khakis tip

traceybath · 11/04/2010 15:07

LTEC - you are correct in your summation.

Fleecy - happy birthday to Sebastian! Sounds like you've done a lot of extremely delicious baking.

So how would you style your DH LTEC?

Bea is crawling now which is very novel as neither of the ds's crawled so I'm finding it quite fascinating to watch.

CHOOGIRL · 11/04/2010 15:32

Afternoon all. Just checking in before going to yoga > It is indeed a lovely day in London TB. I was in a very good mood until I stepped on the scales and put on 2lb this week. How?

Thanks for the feedback on Jigsaw haul. Anyone who wants the stripy top better be quick. I got the last one in St Christopher's Place and they had only been in a day.
Went into Zara today looking for Navy blazer which was featured in the Sunday Times. I cannot fathom that shop - everyone seems to get good things there except me. There are no assistants, I cannot fathom the sizes, stuff is everywhere. I wonder if I could pay LTEC to be my personal shopper.

Anyone else dreading the Outnet sale on Friday? It is going to be carnage. I wish they wouldn't advertise it, and just e-mail their loyal shoppers - ie us on this thread.

Will be back later to check out the links properly.

LetThemEatCake · 11/04/2010 15:48

ah ha. Well, there's only so much that a name change can change I guess.

How cute about Bea!! Maybe - fingers x'd - she'll start sleeping better now? I found with ds1 that once he was expending more energy by day he slept better at night.

What will you wear next Sat night?

I like the way dh dresses - very skater/ surfer - but think he could look a bit smarter sometimes. Just one or two pairs of slimmer cut jeans for eg. Finally got him in cashmere last winter, which he has worn to death and trashed. Maybe a smartish well-cut jacket to wear over tees as alternative to North Face/ penfield.

Last night he wore lovely Paul Smith shirt, ruined by bagginess of jeans iyswim .... it's just that he dresses the same for work, play and party ... so everything looks tatty!!

Thanks for the tip choogirl have ordered that Jigsaw top.

Is this horrid? I thought it might look good with simple black maxi but DH think it's "too young". Am 39 next week...

Am glad you all found my strop amusing yesterday .
Feeling a bit perkier today as re-tried yesterday's DP dress and it does fit after all (tried it on yesterday over my clothes so not really surprising it was a bit tight ).
What do you lot think of it btw? I tried it on with these sandals and a (very old) fitted pale denim blazer and I think I quite liked it so may keep after all.

Cake - sounds like you had a wonderful night out despite being summoned for a bf. Have you tried River Island for the slim khaki trousers? Can't link to site but they have 3 or 4 posssibles on there, have a look.

Fleecy - happy birthday to your ds. I know this has been asked before but which Harry Eastwood book do you all have? Which one would you recommend as best one to buy first?

Choo - I agree re Outnet sale - has been in press and everything so I am expecting a meltdown of the site come Friday (did anyone else do the Toast sale earlier this year ). Does anyone know if it goes live at 12.01am i.e. Thursday night or not till a set time on Friday morning? Not entirely sure I can be arsed tbh.

traceybath · 11/04/2010 21:42

Love those sandals Esher - are they new?

I've got a dentists appointment on friday morning so think I'm just going to forget the outnet sale - I can just see I'll get really cross and annoyed with it.

eshermummy · 11/04/2010 22:08

Yes, I did link to them at the time but noone noticed
Russell & Bromley, wasn't going to but DH encouraged me, are sort of instead of clogs/hasbeens. They are extremely comfortable although so far have only pranced around the kitchen in them
I also think they would look nice with rolled up chino's, which originally I thought I wasn't going to "do" but am slowly coming around to the idea........

I agree, Friday's sale has the potential to be enormously annoying and undoubtedly I will end up getting very cross and flustered and come away with nothing.

RedBlueRed · 11/04/2010 22:14

Hello... please can I ask you all a question?

Thanks to your thread I recently googled hasbeens and have fallen in love. I WANT them.

Unfortunately, having been made redundant twice in the last year and currently still looking for work, it is going to be next bloody summer before I can afford them!

I am not a natural fashionista - I havent a clue in fact, so can you tell me - will they still be ok to buy next summer or am I showing myself up by even asking?

LetThemEatCake · 11/04/2010 22:16

thanks for the RI tip esher - will check it out.

Binged this arvo ... on magazines. Bought a whole swag of 'em when I nipped out to get milk. Now am having fashion overload and too many things I want to buy, plus discount codes galore.

OP posts:
LetThemEatCake · 11/04/2010 22:18

Cain - they are very of the moment I think. Have you got some stuff you could ebay to raise the funds? Otherwise there are cheaper ones here but not the ful range, nor the high ones

OP posts:
AllBuggiedOut · 11/04/2010 22:19

Thanks hana. That one you linked to is pretty but dainty stuff gets a bit lost on me. Although your link has reminded me that I'm going to buy the owl watch somebody linked to a while back for a friend, so thank you!

Love the sandals eshermummy.

RedBlueRed · 11/04/2010 22:26

LetThemEatCake Thanks but it was the high ones I lurved. I will have to find something else to covet and afford.

I have another question if you will indulge me...how do you know what is 'of the moment'?
I hear people talking about what is this season and what is sooo last season and I havent a clue - how do you know?

I don't want to be a slave to fashion but it would be nice to have the 'heads up'.

eshermummy · 11/04/2010 22:31

Cake or anyone else - was there a topshop code in amongst your mag haul?

LetThemEatCake · 12/04/2010 00:12

esher I don't yet but may well do in the next few weeks - will keep you posted. What are you hankering after from TS then?

Cain don't get me wrong, I think you'll still be able to wear HBs next year without being laughed at - they're not the bubble perm of footwear - and I think that clogs and clog-inspired footwear will still be around, but there'll likely be new 'takes on the trend' ... also, fashion editors won't be able to resist playing on the meaning of "hasbeens" and once they say it enough, it'll come true.

As for what's now/ then/ hot/ soooo over - yes, mags, blogs, online stuff .... looking at sites like netaporter and my-wardrobe is mostly just window shopping but you get an idea of what looks good and how you might be able to recreate the looks you like (and avoid the ones you don't!!) The newspapers do good style/ fashion supplements of you don't want to pay for mags - the Sunday Times style one is always worth a look.

Keep checking on ebay - there are bound to be some Hasbeens selling soon - did you see the Lanvin shoes that Verity waited for and got??

right, washing's done ... hanging it out and off to bed. Little Miss Glamourpuss, me

RedBlueRed · 12/04/2010 00:13

Don't be nervous, I am a blank canvas. I had no idea star prints were ever mentioned! Or ponchos for that matter...

So of course, I now have another question...which mags and which blogs?

And then I promise I will go away and leave you alone. Promise. Cross my heart.

AllBuggiedOut · 12/04/2010 00:20

Has anybody seen this Hobbs denim skirt in store recently? Looking for a 10 which is sold out online. Or anything similar elsewhere?

RedBlueRed · 12/04/2010 00:21

Thanks LetThemEatCake, I was thinking about buying the ST today but decided against on the basis of cost. I know its not a lot but its still a cost.

Help very much appreciated.

As you were.
