Do you wear make up every day and if not, why not?

Can't get my head around why so many bright, lovely women don't use a bit of slap and would rather face the world with grey, pale, or sun-spotted complexions when 5 minutes with a bit of slap would transform them.

Don't we want to look as good as we can all of the time for as long as we can?

(And don't say you haven't time- I can do full war paint in just over 5 minutes.!)

PP
oyu old goat! we have had this ad nauseum

some people like it

some people dont!

Booyhoo · 08/02/2010 09:53

because if i put make up on i look like a painted sack of spuds rather than just a plain old sack of spuds that no-one will notice.

no make-up = less visible

purplepeony · 08/02/2010 09:55

BH that's so sad- why not learn how ot make it look good on you and why do you want to be invisible anyway? don't you like you?

YG- but how can anyone not like looking better? Is it all down to not knowing what to use- or not caring?

OP posts:
TulipsInTheRain · 08/02/2010 09:56

because when i see women with a full face of slap during the day i think 'OMG she looks horrendous the poor cow'

I could probably make time but i don't want to, i bas on mascara and lipgloss if i feel the urge and dn't if i don't.... my skin doesn't need makeup, it actually looks better without as makeup makes me spotty.

NoahAndTheWhale · 08/02/2010 09:57

Because I can't be bothered to put it on and take it off and look fine without it

Dumbledoresgirl · 08/02/2010 09:58

Get your head round this one then PP:

I don't even own any make up, let alone wear it, let alone wear it every day.

Now there's a shock for you on a Monday morning!

I try to because I like it and think I look better with it on.

Moisturiser, foundation, concealer, blusher and mascara make a world of difference for me.

Dumbledoresgirl · 08/02/2010 10:00

I have to admit, Booyhoo's post sounds rather sad.

But the saddest thing for me is, her reasons are entirely mine too.

MerlinsBeard · 08/02/2010 10:00

I don't. But then there is really no point, i do the school run and then spend the day at home! If i am having a make up wearing day i wear mascara and bronzer - that's it.

However i do wear makeup when i go out.(night out etc)

purplepeony · 08/02/2010 10:00

I am totally shocked, yes, DDG.
I cannot see how anyone thinks they look good/better without a bit of make up on.
Either they have never learned to apply it properly in the right colours, or they have poor eyesight /judgement if they think they look fine over 20 with totally naked skin.

MerlinsBeard · 08/02/2010 10:01

alot of people DO look good in their own face.

ANd to be honest, if you are doing "full warpaint" in 5 mins then you aren't doing a very good job either

I wear it when daily, I know some people that would be transformed with a lick of tinted moisturiser and others who should really tone down the makeup as it does make them look worse.
Maekup us meant to enhance your skin not cover it up entirely which loads of people don't seem to get

Dumbledoresgirl · 08/02/2010 10:03

I have never learnt to apply it (my mother has never worn make up either) and in the past, if I have ever put any on, I feel exactly as Booyhoo describes: like a painted sack of spuds. I would rather not draw attention to my lack of good looks.

Don't worry about me though: I save a helluva lot of money!

bibbitybobbityhat · 08/02/2010 10:04

Can't be arsed.

It takes me about 15 minutes to do makeup (am perfectionist) and I just cannot face it every day.

Dumbledoresgirl · 08/02/2010 10:09

I really don't agree that no woman over 20 looks good without makeup. What a shocking thing to say!

I can concede that if I were taught some makeup tips, I could look better than I do, but I don't think make up is needed at all for a face to be beautiful.

I don't mean to be personal PP, but the very term "full war paint" brings to mind women totally covered in lurid colours and that, to my mind, makes everyone look worse than they would with nothing on their face.

GeorginaWorsley · 08/02/2010 10:09

I wear it every day.
Am terribly vain, and look washed out without it.
Takes me 5 mins for a quick 'face',ie foundation,creme blush,lipgloss,mascara.

theminniebobble · 08/02/2010 10:09

I wear make up for most excursions out of the house. I know that I look much better with it and looking "finished" is quite important in my job(on mat leave at mo though).

However I think that's it a real treat not to. Although I look conventionally better with it on, I look more like me without it (and I don't wear a lot).

I guess that I am conforming to societal expectations by wearing it. TBH that's a bit shit- it's sad that I feel "underdressed" if I got out without mascara.

theminniebobble · 08/02/2010 10:12

oops. "go out" I'm not incarcerated.

SolidGoldBrass · 08/02/2010 10:15

Purplepeony, I think you;re the one with the self-esteem issues if you think that it's impossible to look good without make up. Men don't usually wear it in the daytime, after all (pauses for quick impure thought about Tim Minchin who is seriously fit).
I wear make up sometimes, especially for going out, because wearing make up can be fun, but I never used to wear it in the daytime because I couldn't see the point and preferred to spend the extra time in bed (I only wear daytime make up now because I'm an Avon rep and feel that if I'm selling the stuff to other people I should wear it myself.)

Francagoestohollywood · 08/02/2010 10:16

I can't be arsed too!

aSilverLining · 08/02/2010 10:17

I rarely wear make up, sometimes a bit of mascara and lip gloss that's about it - at a push when going out eyeliner. Don't own lipstick or foundation.

My skin looks nicer without foundation. I moisturise and drink lots of water, foundation makes my skin worse not better.

In the school playground I rarely see someone with a full face of make in the morning and think 'ooh doesn't she look nice'.

bronze · 08/02/2010 10:17

because day to day I look fine thank you (just been told my doppelgangers are liv tyler and audrey tatou- rubbish- but I do love my friends)

and it means that I have really good skin

plus its not a shock to people when I take it off (if I'm not wearing it in the first place)

the fact you describe it as war paint worries me. I'm me I don't need a mask
