Do you wear make up every day and if not, why not?

Can't get my head around why so many bright, lovely women don't use a bit of slap and would rather face the world with grey, pale, or sun-spotted complexions when 5 minutes with a bit of slap would transform them.

Don't we want to look as good as we can all of the time for as long as we can?

(And don't say you haven't time- I can do full war paint in just over 5 minutes.!)

erm, my husband doesn't see the point in make up (boring heterosexual man) and thinks i am beautiful without it,and tells me very often.

make up is of course a cultural phenomenon - in some cultures men wear make up (they used to in this country - dandies in white lead and blusher with everything else drawn in) and it isn't done to appear without, or is a sign of lower status,

in this country it is not an essential at all, though i think some people turn in circles where everyone wears some make up (thinking about groups of teenage girls here.who grow up to put on faces every day) and some of us don't. A man from that milieu where all women are made-up will expect make up, otherwise..not. I really think it is as much about cultural interpretations of someones look, than the actual visual effect.

it reminds me bit of Homer going on about 'cow-eyed' 'fragrant-haired' women - these things were sign of the womens status aas much as their beauty.

in the UK, higher earners are more likely to wear make up - though i think this is because office workers tend to wear slap, and factory/ shop / warehouse workers tend not to (for H&S reasons as much as anything else)

Tigerfeet - you've met me and you missed the bit where I'm so gorgeous (though old) without make-up

Actually my dp already says he has no reason to go elsewhere because he has steak at home..make up or not..even when im ill..he tells me i look great and im still sexy whilst poorly apparently.

BITCAT · 09/02/2010 22:10

im only just begining to realise how lucky i am...he has given me the confidence back that i lost with my ex..he loves me just as i am makeup or no make up.

not arsed what dh thinks.

I however like the way i look with make-up on.

but i don't always wear it.

i don't 'do' foundation it makes my face feel funny - so its tinted moisturiser all the way.

most of my life i haven't worn make-up becuase i didn't have the time.

now the mornings are mostly my own, so sometimes its lippy and mascara and sometimes i can't be arsed.

Blackduck · 10/02/2010 10:33

MadameDeathstare - that is so funny! Dp isn't bothered either way, but even if he did want me to wear makeup it would be 'tough luck' mate. I just feel (even more of) a fraud with it on.....

But isn't it lovely how the OP cares so much about us lovely ladies not making the most of ourselves

I wore lipstick to pick up the dch from school once, and was asked if I'm having an affair!

Without it I look like SuBo's younger, slightly more glamourous sister
