Ladies, welcome to Spring

cakey didn't mean to be nasty about boots but im(sadly vast)e cheap shoes make you feel less special. I'm donating some time to the cause tomorrow. Will post results.

LetThemEatCake · 10/02/2010 22:42

nasty, as if. I know you weren't. Thanks MM. Am a size 8

yes, I can imagine you as beautiful Cate Marsha. Am less enamoured of Gwynnie, she's a bit droopy, you seem to have more zip and sparkle.

One of my lowest points ever - had been in London a couple of weeks. Someone approaches me to tell me that I look like Cilla Black - except uglier, because "you;ve got no neck"

I had no idea who CB was but soon found out. And wept.

OP posts:
CHOOGIRL · 10/02/2010 22:46

wtf A stranger Cake or someone you know? No way do you look like Cilla

MarshaBrady · 10/02/2010 22:47

Whaaat? You look nothing like Cilla Black! Must have been a nutter! You look like the Next model on here a while back, ie nothing like Cilla!

Gywnnie is a bit droopy, not helped by no bra disaster at Oscars circa 2001-ish (wild guess).

LetThemEatCake · 10/02/2010 22:52

a stranger, hopefully a nutter .. left an impression though!!

ooh, the Next model ... she is my ideal. Thank you Marsha. You mean the pink meringue dress disaster don't you? Not much there to droop iirc!! I mean her whole being. She is very .. I dunno .. like limp lettuce. Organic, natch.

Cate on the other hand, is luminous. I love her.

I did some modelling many moons ago (eyes, hair & face) and was often told I looked a bit like that season's Wella/glasses/makeup model. It was me and on the occasions I said so I was met with total disbelief (in a bad way). It was me just airbrushed.

ltec they were probably just jealous!

Marsha I would love to look like Cate - don't always like what she wears but she always seems supremely confident in her choices and carries herself so beautifully.

choo glad your DD is home again. Excellent news.

I started my copywriting career at VM, back when it was very RB-led. Lots of happy memories from that time - fab parties. That's where I met DH!

MarshaBrady · 10/02/2010 23:03

this one I had no idea it was that see-through! I though it was just no bra, brave woman.

The pink meringue was marred by the sad face and hair.

Sure she's quite sweet . good one one the modelling MM! Photographers used to stop me but I was so damn self-conscious at 20 I'd just blush and run away!

MarshaBrady · 10/02/2010 23:06

And that was 2002. What a guess!

LetThemEatCake · 10/02/2010 23:08

my sister is a model ... when my inlaws came out to Australia for our wedding and met my family for the first time, my MiL said to me "I wonder who your mother was like when she was young? Beautiful like your sister or clever like you?"

The night before my wedding!!!

I LOVE Kate Winslet Hana. Beautiful, beautiful lady.

What a sod! She's wrong anyway. I bet she was threatened by someone with brains and beauty. We're few and far between (and we're all here on this thread) .

BurningBuntingFlipFlop · 10/02/2010 23:15

Hello!!

Have been absent since last week. Not that i think any of you sodding missed me! I have much to catch up on. Too bloody much. I'll explain why i've not been here in the am. Hope you're all okay. xx

LetThemEatCake · 10/02/2010 23:18

was just thinking about you and your stomach twinges today. Hope all okay BBFF

thanks Marsha.I agree This thread is summat special, I think. And we're going to need a new one before the month is out, can you believe it?

OP posts:
BurningBuntingFlipFlop · 10/02/2010 23:49

Hey LTEC, you still up? My twinges were nothing, i have first post baby period to prove that, first in 19 months and jeez i'm feeling hormonal!

My mum has been in hospital with a ruptured appendix (thought only teenages got that) and she was in a really bad way. She's been in 5 days and isn't expected out for a few. She went in with horrendous pain and they left her long enough for it to rupture and get septicemia. Them she wasn't responding to the anti biotics.. ack. She seems much better now, tough wood. Not been a good few days though.

Sooo, can someone give me an update of important goings on as this thread has moved sooo much since thursday or friday last week.

Do any of you have any exciting Valentine's day plans?

BurningBuntingFlipFlop · 10/02/2010 23:51

touch wood. I'm tired. But not sleepy!

monkeysmama · 11/02/2010 09:14

Glad you're feeling better BBFF.

I have realised I made a mistake with my asos order and didn't ask for next day delivery so the stuff won't arrive until tomorrow and I have to be out by 11. I now have no idea what to wear to look smart and stylish but sit in a hot kitchen.

We're going up the West End today for a mooch and to meet a friend for lunch. I am a bit sad - I arranged it so I can wear my new leather leggings. Now I am having palpitations about which shoes.

Had a chat about clothes with dp last night and we're planning a big shopping extravaganza at the end of the month when we have some unexpected money coming in. Not sure whether to go to the West End (Selfridges, Liberty etc.) or to Westfield. I have decided that nearly all my summer wardrobe is going on EBay so need to start from scratch again. I'm a different shape now and need different things for my new life. Any suggestions for basic spring/summer wardrobe?

And how do you wear white trousers with a LO? I'd be worried about sitting down.

carciofi · 11/02/2010 09:28

Monkeysmama, the shopping trip sounds like fun. I would get a couple of dresses and white jeans for starters.

LTEC, your MIL sounds like a piece of work!

My-wardrobe have free delivery today and 25% off with the code amex25. I ordered a Splendid long sleeve t-shirt.

My friend and DH said that I resemble Carla Bruni but they are being nice because it is unfortunately not true!

Burning, hope your mum will recover and be home soon.

hellsbelles · 11/02/2010 09:55

Oh MM - did you know the personal shopper bit at Selfridges now has no minimum spend. I had to get a coat in a hurry and rushed in there once...and promised myself that if I ever have the time I will book in for a proper session. You sit there like a queen. They bring you drinks...go and find all the stuff you are after...bring it to you and then you try it on in super deluxe changing rooms. Definately worth a go if you are getting a few things.

Carciofi - thanks for that....where did you find the splendid long sleeved tee? Is it the green one (which is nice).

So...everyone on this thread sounds totally gorgeous....

Cake - I am disgusted at your MIL. Unless you have been a bit weird and posted someone else's pics as you own...she clearly has some issues and is just jealous. As for Cilla Black. I hope you are laughing about that one. The person was most obviously certifiable.

Burning - oh poor DM...hope she mends quickly.

And boring me - I'm very excited that John Lewis now sell potions on line here now I can indulge in yet more shopping indulgence.

traceybath · 11/02/2010 10:12

Good lord - everyone sounds utterly gorgeous - models and miss worlds - I'd be way too scared to do a meet up now

MM - white jeans are fine with little ones - but then I would say that as love them.

Hells - am trying to get my DH to go to a personal shopping session in selfridges. He's tall (6ft4) and struggles to find decent clothes and also hates shopping. Am hoping he'd go and find it fab and then suggest I go too.

LTEC - your mil is a loon.

traceybath · 11/02/2010 10:47

Choo - glad your DD is at home!

Now what about these cloggs??

carciofi · 11/02/2010 11:32

I am certainly not gorgeous, I think DH wanted me to mind DD while he watched rugby or something!

I really like the cloggs, Tracey.

Hells, I got it in white. I like the lagoon colour too. I wish they'd stock more Mulberry bags, it would be nice to get one with the discount.

eshermummy · 11/02/2010 11:45

Aaagh, can you believe it, on top of all my other lurgies I have woken up this morning with conjunctivitis.
Thank God my parents are close by and they are doing my school runs with DD1 for me and have been to dr's and have got 3 lots of antibiotics for my various icky ailments.

Am supposed to be on a girls night out this Sat night in trendy Shoreditch with my oldest friends - but won't be able to go unless the eye lurg clears

Choo - glad you dd is out of hosp.

Burning - hope your mum makes a speedy recovery.

Tracey - I quite like those clogs but I am holding out for a pair with more studs . You know, where you can see where the leather is nailed to the wood.
I had an amazing pair of Russell & Bromley open toe clogs my last year of uni (1995?). I reckon R&B will have some good ones in later. I wish I could find a pic of the hobbs ones - they are like tasselled loafers on the front.
Do you think you could drive in them though? I don't normally drive in shoes not properly attached to my feet ifswim.

roary · 11/02/2010 11:48

LTEC, if you decide you hate your Pure dress I'd be happy to take it off your hands (depending on size/colour) as was eyeing it in the sale but was too slow.

Don't think it could be mumsy if it is clinging to your hips, though! I have to say my short tunics/dresses and leggings are what received the whistles from the construction site on my way home from work, so I don't think they can be that mumsy ;) This was, of course, pre-pg whale stage. (And yes, Sydney is much cooler than Perth, although that is not difficult )

Monkeysmama, you said you have slim feet - you don't have any genius shoe shopping destinations, do you? I have a NIGHTMARE with shoes (should really buy only speciality shoes but can't bear it).

Zembo · 11/02/2010 12:10

Tracy am a mere mortal I'm afraid, resemblance to miss world starts and ends with brown skin and black hair!I prefer the Hasbeens cloggs to the 2nd pair.

Marsha you sound nothing short of one super sleek, chic and stunning lady.

LTEC I wouldn't keep the Pure dress if its not a good fit as whenever I've done that said item has always languished in my wardrobe - if I don't wear something straightaway I don't love it enough and must go - thats my acid test anyway
