Lots of threads on at the moment for us- maybe we should have our own topic!

OP posts:
dinoroar · 18/12/2009 18:27

Today I am wearing a mens hoodie

I do find LTS expensive, but all their tops fit me very well. Some trousers also fit perfectly, but some are too long.

dinoroar · 18/12/2009 18:29

M&S have also increased the length of their simple £5 or £6 T shirt type tops (short sleeve ones, long sleeve no good) in various plain colours. I find them OK now.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 18/12/2009 18:33

I'm 5'10" and take a size 8 shoe. I have a problem finding tops that are long enough in the body and arms.

I buy mens socks as I find womans socks aren't quite big enough.

I think we need to invire Miranda Hart onto this thread

MrsFlittersnoop · 18/12/2009 18:43

Oh Dinoroar, I've just moved to Bath! Whereabouts is After 8? - I've not come across it.

Can't wear LTS trousers or jeans - too long for me and too tight round the thighs and arse! . A lot of their stuff is tacky and frumpy, but I usually find one or two items per season that hit the spot - I bought a lovely dress there for a wedding this summer and a long floaty tunic top for my 30 year anniversary school reunion. I buy LTS from ebay as well to save money, 'cos I know it fita.

Does anyone else find H&M good for lanky lasses? Dead cheap too!

dinoroar · 18/12/2009 18:47

MrsFlittersnoop - I don't live in Bath so my knowledge of it is a bit ropey! I just go there for the After Eight and the Long Tall Sally ocasionally.

Anyway, if you go past the car entrance to the podium carpark (with the carpark on your right) you just carry on up that street and the After Eight is up there on the right. There are quite a lot of smallish shops on that road.

These directions are on foot (or park in the Podium and walk to the car entrance & go from there) as I am not sure if the one way systems prevent you from coming from the direction I have described!

hippipotamiHasLost77lbs · 18/12/2009 18:49

Oooh, me me me please
I am 6ft1 and wear a size 8 or 9 shoe (depending on the make)
I am also a bit on the chunky side, have recently dropped 5 stones but still wear a 22 on the bottom and a 26 on top (huge of nork) so finding clothes is a nightmare.

And YES to inviting Miranda Hart, I [heart] her!

Nothing in LTS inspires me tbh but have found a lovely shop locally called Ulla Popken. They cater for plus sizes but are German and thus cater for tall women too! I think they have a website, here it is: Ulla Popken

gibba8 · 18/12/2009 18:50

I am 6" and love Next new Tall range.
Can anyone help find me a WARM waterproof coat for the school run. Next have some nice coats but more dressy and not waterproof. North Face have a lovely womens arctic parka that actually fit me but it is £220! Which warm coats are all you other tall ladies wearing?

golgi · 18/12/2009 18:57

I'm five foot ten and like hippipotami take size 8 or 9 shoe depending on the make.

My arms are too long for most clothes. I think I may be an orang-utan.

I am currently wearing - men's jeans, as usual, and an oversized jumper from a festival.

My warm coat is a big duffle coat from TK Maxx.

Mamazontopofsantabeingrude · 18/12/2009 19:00

The biggest trouble i find is that tall ranges all s eem to stop at a size 18.
it seems you can be fat and short or skinny and tall.

woe forbid your tall and fat cos you have to go round nekkid.

im 6'1 and a size 22/24 and i find it almost imossible.

hippipotamiHasLost77lbs · 18/12/2009 19:02

That was my problem exactly Mamazon!! I used to walk around in size 28 jeans which flapped around my ankle bones. Not a good look! But things are looking up

PoppetOne · 18/12/2009 19:23

Hi to all the tall ladies - can I join in?

I am 5 foot 11 and a half - very important, the half!

The best knee high boots I have bought were hush puppies ones with extra width at the calf.

The best place for casual clothes (for me) is always Abercrombie & Fitch - I used to frequent the States (for work) & have spent a small fortune shopping at A&F!
I have wide shoulders & hips & long arms & legs & am about a 10-12 and all of their clothes were long enough and well proportioned for me.
They now have a store in London & do mail order so I am on a mission to get DH to London!

For more formal trousers, I like Whistles and they (usually) are long enough if I am wearing flats.

Recently I bought some leggings from New Looks Tall range which are really, really long indeed!

HinnyPet · 18/12/2009 19:41

I'm 5ft 10 and a bit, 36 in leg, monkey arms. size 8 1/2 feet, skinny legs and arms and ball shaped in the middle!

I wear, DP Tall rage 20, New Look Tall 16 and LTS 18. I love skinny jeans tucked into boots cos it doesn't matter if they are a bit short

I have Tesco knitted dresses and tops in a size 12 as they are HEEUUUGGEE.

I have a DP tall range grey wool military style coat, very long, size 20 to fit my shoulders but it's too big round the waist and not waterproof..... any ideas??

nickytwotimes · 18/12/2009 19:48

I'm another giant.
5'11. About a 14, size 7 or 8, long length troosers are fine, but my arms are always poking out from my sleeves.
I find LTS too big and the quality is crap.

MrsFlittersnoop · 18/12/2009 20:03

Thanks Dinoroar - I think you must mean Walcot St - lots of hippyish shops up there! Will check it out.

Wow Hippipotami - 5 stone, that is amazing! German and Dutch clothes are great for tall women. I went to Holland when I was pregnant, and found the clothes there were fabulous for tall women - but ruinously expensive .

I've bought a couple of great knitted dresses from H&M this winter - their XL seems to translate into a 16/18 which just about fits.

I'm a 7/8 shoe size, but need a wide fitting - about EE. i've found Emoticon do a good range - got some great sparkly jewelled sandals at half-price from eBay (again! ) this summer. Duo are also good for wider feet but v.v. pricey.

FairyLightsForever · 18/12/2009 20:24

I'm with you on the sleeves thing, especially as I'm a size 10-12, so they assume you must be short

wahwah · 18/12/2009 21:56

Oh please let me join. I'm 5'10" and a size 10 with size 8 feet. I really hate not being able to buy dresses in the right proportions and although LTS do the odd thing, my holy grail is well fitted, good quality, stylish dresses...

giddyupRudolph · 18/12/2009 22:04

Poppet I've got two A&F hoodies which I bought in the US about 6 years ago and I live in them. They have fantastic long arms. Jeans are the current issue.

deaddei · 18/12/2009 22:11

wahwah- I haven't worn a dress for about 20 yrs because they don't fit.
My dd is going to be tall too- at 13 she's 5 feet 7 with size 7 feet. And inside leg 31.
She is going to be expensive
She's really into Hollister/ A & F.
Gap have good puffa style coats- practical and warm if not glamorous- I've had mine a few years- dh calls it my chav coat.
Gabor boots are quite wide on the calf- available at after 8. Lovely quality. I have the opposite problem- slim calves, but got a gorgeous pair at Duo. I bought 1 boot, dh the other. Expensive, but I'll be wearing them for years.
M & S used to do a tall range, but that fizzled out last year.
I wish Wallis would do longer trousers.

This blog is often fab:

www.clothesfortallwomen.co.uk/about/

I get so mad with Long Tall Sally. They have a captive audience and yet so many of their clothes are frumpy polyester horrors. I am also pissed off that they've excluded cotton pyjamas from the pre-Christmas sale - I like having pyjamas that actually fit but I'm not about to pay £40+ for them.

Attenborough · 18/12/2009 22:19

PS I'm a comparatively short 5'9" but have a 35" inside leg and size 8 shoes.

Completely agree with the person upthread who said that tall people aren't allowed to be fat - I'm a 20 at the moment and if I get any bigger, I have absolutely not idea what I could wear. It's hard enough finding longer length trousers in a 20 as it is...

GypsyMoth · 18/12/2009 22:24

i love www.tallgirls.co.uk much better than lts,but next is my fave!

Ladyem · 18/12/2009 23:08

Hi! I posted really early on the thread but great to see so many of us!! I'm 5'10", size 8-10, size 6 feet 36" inside leg and broad of shoulder!! It was a nightmare when I was pregnant!! I find getting a nice coat the hardest thing as I have such long arms and broad shoulders that if I get on to fit that part of me it's huge on the body!

I usually go to New look tall range, DPs tall range, Zara - they seem to be quite long in their jeans, and have shopped on tallgirls.co.uk before too. Don't really like LTS, but must confess that I'm sitting in a pair of their PJs at the minute and they are v comfy!!

golgi · 18/12/2009 23:10

Ah, yes, maternity clothes.

Only short people get pregnant, it seems.

Althought I did find H+M trousers that were long enough, all the maternity tops I found finished somewhere mid-bump.

Ladyem · 18/12/2009 23:21

I know, even the shops that actually do a tall range don't think to do a tall pregnant range!! Luckily this last pregnancy was over the summer, so was able to wear maternity skirts and drawstring linen trousers, just in a larger size!!

I did write to Next about this matter, as their extra-long maternity trousers were ankle flappers and nowhere near as long as their main range, but they never deigned to reply!!

HinnyPet · 18/12/2009 23:49

Don't you think www.tallgirls.co.uk is really expensive? I mean £50 for a jumper? and were there jeans on there for over £100 ?
