Hello!

Well still not biting my nails and I'm putting the cuticle cream on, but....
I'm still biting the skin and I'm struggling to keep nail polish on as I just peel it off .

It's not too bad as I don't bite the skin until it bleed and it doesn't look bitten, but it feels like I haven't totally quit yet!

On the plus side my nails are growing! Yay!

CybilLiberty · 07/10/2009 17:21

Wandering you have transferred your nibbling behaviour onto something else

You have to realise WHEN you pick, peel etc, and have something else to hand. Good for nails to grow though, perhaps if THEY are looking nice you will feel less inclined to pick skin .

Wanderingsheep · 07/10/2009 17:29

I do it ALL the time, when I'm stood talking to someone, watching tv etc. It must look awful!

Geocentric · 07/10/2009 17:33

I'm being bad today... nails still ok but like Wandering, I've been at the cuticles... Time to get off the pc and do my nails, I think!!!!!!

I love reading everyone's updates, it's helping to keep me motivated!

Geocentric · 08/10/2009 14:51

Ok, help me with my shopping list! My dad is going to the UK on Saturday (family emergency ) and he'll have a little time on his hands so I'm going to ask him to get me the Burt Bees cuticle stuff. Where can he find it? Its called "Burt Bee's Cuticle Balm", right?

Any other especially recommended product that I can ask him to buy, Burt Bee's or other brands?

CybilLiberty · 08/10/2009 18:08

Geo he can get it from big Boots, its called Burts Bees Lemon Butter Cuticle creanm, comes in a dinky yellow tin.

Can he be trusted to buy you nail varnish?...on second thoughts prob not.

But tbh any cuticle cream that you can massage in to smooth the crusties away will be great

This is working a treat, I have barely bitten all week and everything looks so much better! thanks all.

Geocentric, where are you? I have a friend who used to live in Germany who swears by Dr Hauschka cuticle oil (I think it comes in some kind of pen-like thing). You can get it lots of places but it's cheaper in Germany/Europe than in the UK.

Geocentric · 09/10/2009 11:48

aqua, I'm in Brazil... Thanks Cybil, have written it down for him, he won't mind popping into Boots for me (and can pick up my Nelson's Calendula Cream at the same time , I'm addicted to that stuff!).

FabMum1 · 09/10/2009 12:24

Oh ladies, its now been a week and my nails are fab. They no longer look bitten, ugly, sore or stubby. My cuticles are fab, my hands moisturised and I have some nails, yippeeeee!!!!

Went out today and was actually quite proud to use the chip and pin machine rather than tryin to hide my hands, lol!

Keep up the good ladies! We will have lovely nails, we will

CybilLiberty · 09/10/2009 15:29

Just painted mine a very very dark burgundy red, they are short but neat and no scraggly side bits. I don't want them long, just presentable

OP posts:
CybilLiberty · 09/10/2009 15:30

And well done fab, I know how much better you feel having more presentable and grown up hands!

Alibooobaandthe40phantoms · 09/10/2009 22:44

I have the Lemon cuticle stuff, been rubbing it in all day, love it!

Have been much better about the chewing, only a couple of fingers with any chomped bits - one whole hand is perfect!

I have managed to get myself into a bit of a routine in the morning. Wash hands and scrub nails, quick file and then lots of handcream. Seems to set me up for the day.

I am actually going to go and paint my nails now, they look nice enough to draw attention to. Going to keep them short though, when they are longer I do more skin picking which is weird.

mamadiva · 09/10/2009 22:57

LMFAO I was just sitting chewing my nails when I saw this

Always wanted to stop actually but I even chewed and started to like the fecking Bitter nail stuff

Will go read comments and see if any advice but I will let you know if I can actually be arsed prepared to quit

Wanderingsheep · 09/10/2009 23:19

A week without nibbling nails! Well done everyone.

I haven't done too badly today and yesterday with the skin nibbling. Think the key is to keep myself busy! Oh well, my main priority is to keep my nails nice.

C'mon, Mamadiva, join in and get quitting!

Geocentric · 10/10/2009 18:22

Ok, have "ordered" the Lemon suticle stuff. Also, my mum treated me to a manicure so I now have fantastic (tho' very short!) nails... Now for the willpower to keep them like that!!!!

FabMum1 · 12/10/2009 13:18

Oh I actually have nails, soft cuticles, moisturised hands, its fab!

Geocentric · 12/10/2009 15:12

Congratulations, FabMum, keep it up!

CybilLiberty · 14/10/2009 17:42

HOW ARE THE BITERS DOING?

OP posts:
Geocentric · 14/10/2009 17:46

Pretty good, thank you! I now have a thin (very thin, but still!) line of white on my nails, woo hoo!!!!

CybilLiberty · 14/10/2009 18:25

Brilliant...mines only dead thin too, I would hate to have nails that poke up over the ends of my fingers.

OP posts:
aquavit · 15/10/2009 10:09

Lapsed a tiny bit but then got myself back into line - it's all looking good for my Very Serious Wedding on Sat! the skin around my nails is jolly nearly as nice as the nails themselves (which are usually pretty good, but have LOVED all the extra hand cream that I've been rubbing in).

I have rewarded myself with a very yummy new orange oil soap.

Congrats on the white lines!

FabMum1 · 15/10/2009 13:02

Well done girls, we can do it!

My nails are growing growing growing. I'm using my Burt Bees and hand cream everyday and they are fab. I now have about 3mm of white, I know it doesn't sound much, but thats brill for me.

Am now worrying if they'll start to peel or break off....

Thinking of going to have a manicure

CybilLiberty · 15/10/2009 13:07

I have filed mine down dead short again, as I knew I was in danger of biting. It's like being an Alcoholic you can never say you won't do it again. One day at a time.....

Sooo glad it's working for you

OP posts:
FabMum1 · 15/10/2009 21:27

Am now wondering if I should start using a nail treatment, what do you think ladies ?

Geocentric · 16/10/2009 15:07

My dad got back today, but he couldn't find the Burts Bees stuff. He got me some Sally Hansen though which seems nice. I'm going to keep it by the PC, to rub in while I'm MNing...

Cybil, I know what you mean. It only takes one slip up and its back to zero again!!!
