I got my first ever Boden and mini Boden catalogues last week.

The womenswear is really rather underwhelming (although I'm quite tempted by the bird skirt) - I have never seen such a total lack of sex appeal. Its very nice-but-dull. But then I am a bit of a cleavage-happy trollop .

The girls clothes, however, are absolutely fantastic. I could quite easily buy half the entire range for DD, it really is very different to everything else, and is perfect for active girls who want to charge around like nutters all day. The prices on the whole aren't toooooooo bad for good quality stuff, although £20 for 7 pairs of pants is rather steep I feel.

at Toast/Tilda Swinton image. Totally!

I think the reason for all the derision/piss taking (says me, sat here in a boden top) is that familiarity breeding contempt thing. I wouldn't know where to start with Top Shpt/Next woman, she's like an exotic being from another world. Whereas Boden woman I know better than I know myself

alana39 · 24/09/2009 11:27

It's true I had never heard of Boden until I was a mum. There are a few Boden mums at our school but also lots of tattoos. And you can only really tell the Boden ones when they wear the prints. But - I have never seen anyone actually wearing any hotchpotch, does it all end up in the sale for £2 or is there a particular hotspot for the real bodenistas?

hatwoman · 24/09/2009 12:12

my single slightly alternative sil recently complimented me on a boden shirt. I laughed and told her it was Boden. She had never heard of them. I had to show her the catalogue for her to understand why I was laughing. Needless to say she did understand. but she still liked the shirt.

Lol at this thread and at LTEC and BalladofTG!

Am not sure quite what is wrong with me but hell i do like cheerful, vibrant, colourful attire! The Boden has really brightened up the rest of my wardrobe. Still buy from lots of other places too though. Just got a darling boyfriend cardi from M&S and a tartan mini from Warehouse. As an aside, my boden merino tunic has just arrived in ink and pink and it looks ace worn as a mini dress with tights and my bargain MN fly mols.

However, I must admit that i am coveting one of johnnie's fun skirts. I think i can just about pull it off........

LetThemEatCake · 24/09/2009 13:01

chattermouse - I thought after I'd posted that - I hope you didn't think I was having a pop at you. You sound lovely. I am just about to push out a baby, 2 stone heavier than usual and generally disgruntled (unless buying from my-wardrobe, tee hee)

AnotherBloodySugaBabe · 24/09/2009 13:01

She is called something very 60s/70s- Jackie, perhaps? (Her daughter is called India)

She lives in Muswell Hill (couldnt afford Islington, was't prepared to slum it in Stoke Newington)

She eats very little in front of people (maybe a few rice cakes with reduced fat houmous now and then) but gorges on the kids secret stash of mini rolls in private, hence the slight mum tum she still has despite being fairly slim otherwise

She drives a Zafira, of course! She had to sell the old Saab, God love it, when she had baby no.3

LetThemEatCake · 24/09/2009 13:12

tulpe - I once would have happily poured scorn on the "woman at Next" were it not for the fact that my daughter's friend, while looking through a Next catalogue, pointed to the model they use and said "look, it's P's mummy!!"

She now gets extra biscuits when she comes over, enabling me to remain svelte enough to shop at my-wardrobe and net-a-porter

anyway, joking aside, what about the condemnation that MW and NaP attract on MN??? Holy moly.

But going back to the "shiny happy people" aspect of Boden, it's just a bit too uncool for my liking. I think I like fashion to be a more insouciant and unfriendly. Or just more matter of fact. "We suggest you wear this with this" as opposed to "Tally ho, chaps, we're all trying so hard to shake off this staid British thing and be jolly that we're very nearly a dead ringer for Father Christmas!!"

scattykatty · 24/09/2009 13:12

I buy nearly all DS's clothes from Boden, they are excellent.

I can't believe people are so mean about it, I think they are lovely

chattermouse · 24/09/2009 13:14

LTEC , no offence taken at all! Tis awful at the very end of the pregnancy road i know. My dd3 is now 6 months old and i am finally a few pounds off pre preg weight. Have lost 2 and a half stone through breastfeeding. Fingers crossed you'll only have a stone to shift after baby and fluid are out! So chin up lass, could be worse!

Are you having any twinges yet? How exciting.

chattermouse · 24/09/2009 13:19

BTW, Idid laugh at the fun skirt accross the size 16 arse comment above. Yet somehow this ocean blue and mustard fun skirt is low stock and about to sell out in a size 20. It even makes the tiny model look wide of hip....

hatwoman · 24/09/2009 13:20

what's a fly mol? [thick emoticon]

hatwoman · 24/09/2009 13:21

omg at that blue and mustard fun skirt. horrendous.

chattermouse · 24/09/2009 13:28

fly mol is a boot by fly london brand. It is knee high and tight on calf, heel is a very low wedge shape. They retail for £125 a pair but thanks to some fabulous mn'tters (stillfrazzled in my case) lots of us managed to buy them from office online for the bargain price of £40. They are mn regulation footwear now....

HerHonesty · 24/09/2009 13:28

definitely not sam cam. she aspires to be sam cam but didnt marry well enough so is stuck in the home counties as cant afford country pile or notting hill (sorry, the cams call it west ken dont they, as instructed by tory hq).

she is very very nice but ever so slightly dull. she always writes thank you letters on time. she drives an audi estate or some version of a 4*4 but not a range rover. she knows the recipe to make a sponge cake of by heart. she has dinner parties.
