Why is it such a sin to wear black boots with jeans?

And what should I wear instead?

is it a sin? oh well. Anyway put your boots back in the wardrobe and get out your summer shoes!

savoycabbage · 19/04/2009 07:30

It is a crime against fashion. I would say that you can wear anything other than black boots.

mrsrawlinson · 19/04/2009 07:33

What sort of boots? And why? I think I'm pretty conversant with 'Da Rules' but I had no idea about this one. I'm a bit worried now!

savoycabbage · 19/04/2009 07:36

Like these here with jeans?

KingCanuteIAm · 19/04/2009 07:44

Because people like to impose arbitrary rules on you for no good reason other than it makes them feel good to see you doing as you are told.

KingCanuteIAm · 19/04/2009 07:49

Oops, there was supposed to be a at the bottom of that!

mrsmaidamess · 19/04/2009 09:12

Oh I look HOT with my skinnies and high black boots on. I have found a pair that actually fit round my leg properly without looking like a broom stick in a flower pot so I will wear them with pride!

FWIW I think it depends on what you have on your top half. I wouldn't wear black boots and jeans with a floaty top but with something pared down and striking I would.

BettySwollux · 19/04/2009 13:34

these are the type of boots I wear, but why is it such a crime against fashion to wear them with blue jeans??

OP posts:
brimfull · 19/04/2009 13:57

because they look all wrong with jeans

don't know why, they just don't suit jeans

the boots are a bit old fashioned and slightly too officey iykwim

brimfull · 19/04/2009 13:59

these would look better with jeans imo

Supercherry · 19/04/2009 15:57

It's a bit 40-something and a bit 90's.

Skinnies and high boots isn't what we are talking about here Mrsmaidamess.

It's what my mum and her friends would wear- (sorry mum).

This thread really tickled my funny bone for some reason especially the pictures .

MaryAnnSailors · 19/04/2009 16:11

I dare you to wear long black boots, jeans, oversize lumberjack shirt, and a can of elnet for your puffy fringe. And a white leather fringe jacket.

It was my uniform in my bogan days.

Has it not come back in fashion yet?

It just looks a bit cheap and chavvy.
What about black jeans with black boots?

edam · 19/04/2009 16:36

Blimey, had no idea about this 'rule' and have been merrily breaking it for yonks.

BecauseImWorthIt · 19/04/2009 16:39
Niecie · 19/04/2009 16:43

Take no notice - never heard of this 'rule' anywhere but here.

Besides there shouldn't be any rules. Wear what you like and comfortable in and don't worry what a group of fashionistas have to say about it, they just make it up as they go along anyway.

Supercherry · 19/04/2009 17:40

Its not chavvy but it's on par with wearing socks and sandals or wearing white socks with jeans and trainers. It smacks of middle age but of course everyone can wear whatever they like. It is the younger generation's duty to mock their elders over trivial things like this.

dexter73 · 19/04/2009 17:45

If it's good enough for Kate Moss then I shall still wear my black biker boots with skinny jeans!

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 19/04/2009 17:46

We're talking bootleg jeans here aren't we.

Bootleg jeans and a low heal.

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 19/04/2009 17:47

Heal? See! that's what boredom does for you...

brimfull · 19/04/2009 18:41

black biker boots completely different to op's boots

MadameCastafiore · 19/04/2009 18:46

Oooohhhh those flat black ones are just soooo middle aged!

EyeballsintheSky · 19/04/2009 19:12

What a load of bollocks. I've been wearing black boots and jeans for years, nothing wrong with it. If you're wearing black on top what else would you put on your feet. Chavvy and middle aged my arse.
