Shallow I know, but Sarah Brown has appalling dress sense and a terrible figure.

I suppose this thread is shallow....however

It is 2009 and shallow as that might be looks matter - she will have a budget and wardrobe advisors and that suit was ahem ill- advised

she is representing 'us' - if nothng else - to the Obamas and I do think she could have tried harder

If Gordon had worn an over tight suit I would have said the same

Nothing to do with feminism

SparkyFartDust · 02/04/2009 21:11

I am sure that the Obama's couldn't have given a flying feck about how she looked.

blardy hell.

NotanOtter · 02/04/2009 21:12

why are you 'sure?'

Michelle cares about her appearance

Spero · 02/04/2009 21:13

What a depressing, useless, stupid op.

Who the fuck cares? Why should you comment?

I guess it is true that we are our own worst enemies.

BonsoirAnna · 02/04/2009 21:15

I bet the Obamas will have a good giggle after the event about Sarah Brown's dull ill-fitting clothes!

LadyG · 02/04/2009 21:16

I think we are all overreacting here. For goodness sake OP has admitted to being a tory. Of course she's going to be nasty about her as were the tory scum press about Cherie. Rise above it girls, rise above it. Labour is in power and we have a Democrat in the White House-let us be thankful.
FWIW I have met Sarah Brown and she is very attractive.

NotSoRampantRabbit · 02/04/2009 21:17

Goodness me Anna - what a ridiculously high opinion you must have of yourself to assume that the US president and his wife have the same utterly facile view of the world as you.

Appalling thread.

Spero · 02/04/2009 21:18

No Lady G I don't think I'm overreacting, can't speak for anyone else.

I pick up the Times today - news paper of the Year dontcha know!!!

And what do I find? Pages, and pages and bloody pages of pictures of the 'WAGS' comments on their dresses - was Michelle RIGHT to wear a sequined cardie??

I don't care! I don't care!

BUT i do care very very very much that THIS festering shite is what my daughter will grow up reading and seeing.

Spero · 02/04/2009 21:19

Christ on a bike anna, are you really real?

I do hope not.

gosh do none of you ever talk about someones clothes?

moondog · 02/04/2009 21:20

Tory??? Me???
You must be mad!
I'm not nor ever have been a Tory.

expatinscotland · 02/04/2009 21:20

I'll bet the Obamas didn't even notice.

They don't seem the type of people who are hung up on trivial BS like that.

NormaJeanBaker · 02/04/2009 21:21

I prefer her in a dress to Gordon in one though. He'd be a rough looking drag queen. My drama teacher's husband wore her clothes and he looked pretty elegant. Sarah B's not so bad.

NotSoRampantRabbit · 02/04/2009 21:23

This isn't a thread about clothes though is it NOA?

It's a hideous thread about weight disguised as a self-congratulatory "style" assessment.

It's bitchy, undignified, and really depressing.

Spero · 02/04/2009 21:23

Dear NotanOtter.
I will happily bitch about illadvised satorial choices of my male and female friends. What I don't think is appropriate is to have the wives of presidents etc, trotted out on a fashion parade when we are supposed to be worried about saving the world economy. It is completely, utterly irrelevant

What kind of message do you think this is giving to girls as they grow up?

all you can be is the wife or girlfriend of somebody important and you'd better make damn sure you're no bigger than a size 10 in Chanel or people like Anna will giggle at you.

FFS.

BonsoirAnna · 02/04/2009 21:24

These threads are so hilarious. All the posters with terrible hang ups about their own appearance reveal all their insecurities by claiming that it is wrong and awful and cruel and bla bla bla to judge anyone else's appearance...

kettlechip · 02/04/2009 21:25

Never mind Sarah's outfit, wtf is that dreadful cardigan Michelle is wearing? Looks like it belongs on a golf course, not over a prom dress.. She is a stunning lady though, and just about gets away with it.

And FWIW I think Sarah Brown is actually quite striking in that top photo of her. The style and colour of the outfit admittedly do her no favours but I don't think she's beyond hope. She needs to come on here and let us choose her an outfit!

Spero · 02/04/2009 21:26

Dearest darling, no doubt supermodel Anna.

Unless and until you have seen photos of us all, that comment is a tad redundant.

My daughter, for what its worth is absolutely beautiful. And I will hang my head in shame if that is all she thinks she can trade off in her life.

and if she ends up like you I'll shoot myself.

Anna I can assure you I have no hang ups.

I fit with your model of perfection, what with being a size 10, degree educated, relatively attractive 30 year old who knows that Laura Mercier is the best for tinted moisturiser, and is not averse to a shopping spree on
my-wardrobe.

But I work with teenage girls and am about to give birth to a daughter.

Your attitude is vile and I reserve the right to say so. This thread says nothing about my self-esteem and everything about yours.

expatinscotland · 02/04/2009 21:29

Spot on post, Stewies.

NotanOtter · 02/04/2009 21:30

throughout history in all cultures women and men have 'dressed up' for state occasions

our modern day culture is no different

If you want to teach your daughters how to respect themselves stop letting them post pictures of themselves on bebo and stop indicating that to strip ones body of hair is natural for a start
