Shallow I know, but Sarah Brown has appalling dress sense and a terrible figure.

FGS woman, loser a bit of weight and get some nice gear. You're supposed to be representing us.

OP posts:
Sorrento · 04/04/2009 23:40

If Gordon Brown had on too tight trousers, I'd call the police

NotanOtter · 04/04/2009 23:44

worried about a stampede?

salome64 · 04/04/2009 23:50

Take your point notanotter, no, she is not stylish in an obvious way, but I always imagine what that might look like in real life(without evil camera effect) and I usually get what she's trying to achieve.

Though I might shoot myself in the foot by suggesting she nipped down to rigby and peller...

salome64 · 04/04/2009 23:54

The problem with restrained style and elegance is that you have to be a bit Carla figured to carry it off. Simple, well cut stuff can cover a multitude of (hidden) sins but if your body type does not conform, what can the girl do? She sticks to plain colours, doesn't do too many colours at one go..does stck to the rules etc... I do know she does lots of excercise and stuff, but just is never going to be the kind of gal that pulls off restrained elegance.

NotanOtter · 05/04/2009 00:09

well put salome, i agree actually

salome64 · 05/04/2009 00:25

you are all elegance of mind, Notanotter!

salome64 · 05/04/2009 00:28

And I charmed, and blush slightly, in accepting your salutations, Ronaldhinio ( surreptiously adjusts purple track suit top).

gawkygirl · 05/04/2009 00:43

This thread is depressing.
I am fat and I now realise that you are all judging me because of the way I look . No-one cares about my personality or intellect or abilities, only whether my bum looks big. I could be the kindest person in the world but you are sniggering at me because I am not a perfect 10. God I'm depressed.

salome64 · 05/04/2009 00:46

gawky , please leave the podium, you cannot possibly represent a nation whose average size is -16- 6. Your phd and 20 years devotion to child welfare means nothing to us. Go. Meditate on your shortcomings. Return a trimmer, if insanely neurotic, size 6 and show us the meaning of real womanhood.

I think that if she was a Mumsnetter she would be cheered that the majority are sticking up for her. It was a bad photo, I expect that it looked quite different face to face. I think she looks nice and normal and wouldn't freak out if someone asked her to eat more than a lettuce leaf!
Not one of the critics have shown us a photo of their own size 8/10 figures, or their impeccable good taste in clothes!

Wuxiapian · 05/04/2009 10:45

I think she's a very attractive woman with a perfectly normal figure.

What the hell is wrong with you, OP?

kittywise · 05/04/2009 11:13

piscesmoon I see you still don't get the point that it is completely irrelevant what we look like

piscesmoon · 05/04/2009 12:11

You don't get my point that it is relevant kittywise! If you are criticising someone in the public eye, we ought to know if you could do better. (the fact that you will probably never represent the country is neither here not there).

BonsoirAnna · 05/04/2009 12:13

Piscesmoon - it is perfectly reasonable to criticise someone in the public eye without being able to claim that you could do better yourself.

piscesmoon · 05/04/2009 12:21

Not if it is a case of 'the pot calling the kettle black', to coin another phrase.
For all we know, vastly overweight people, who never get out of elasticated bottoms and tent like Tshirts, are sitting back saying that SB is fat and had no dress sense! I would at least like to know that they are thin and stylish themselves.

BonsoirAnna · 05/04/2009 12:23

Why should we not expect people in the public eye in positions of influence to be better than the average common mortal?

piscesmoon · 05/04/2009 12:27

She isn't in a position of influence. She happens to be married to an important person-she didn't ask for the job. I expect that she has 101 things to do and worrying about what she wears is way down the list. She probably hasn't the time to devote to it. She turned up, was clean and presentable and did her duty-I daresay she would have rather been somewhere else!

BonsoirAnna · 05/04/2009 12:28

Of course she is in a position of influence! You don't have to have been voted in to be in one, or to have asked for the job.

Did the Queen choose to be Queen?

piscesmoon · 05/04/2009 12:35

The Queen has a job. SB doesn't have a job. I expect it is possible to be the wife of the PM and refuse to go to anything-obviously a wife would support if she loves the man but SHE DOESN'T HAVE TO. If it was me I think I would have my own job and say 'I will be there if I can spare the time'-but then I wouldn't have married anyone who is going to be in the public eye. It is like being a vicar's wife-there is nothing to say that she has to go to church or do all the things they traditionally do. The Duke of Edinburgh could disappear to Sandringham and do his own thing-he hasn't a job. All these people support and shouldn't get criticised-unless people know they could do it better!

drosophila · 05/04/2009 12:48

Bonsoir - We can't expect them to be better than common mortals simply because they are common mortals. The original post put it best 'Shallow I know' .

It is very very shallow.

kittywise · 05/04/2009 12:50

No, I disagree piscesmoon, she might not have a job but she most certainly has a DUTY as the PM's wife, that much is obvious.
She is a representing this country because she is his wife and being the intelligent woman you hold her to be she knows this and she would completely agree that it is her duty.

expatinscotland · 05/04/2009 12:53

Maybe she's chosing to use her influence to give a two-fingered salute to pathetically shallow people.

drosophila · 05/04/2009 12:53

A pretty good representative I would say. Not overly concerned with her looks.....
