Shallow I know, but Sarah Brown has appalling dress sense and a terrible figure.

NAO you've said made a point about girls being a size bigger and 'flaunting' their fat midriffs, and you've said that you don't want your girls growing up to think that overweight (size 14? 12?) is 'normal'. You don't, to me, sound as though you have a balanced perspective on women's weight.

NotanOtter · 04/04/2009 22:45

one bat

what????

Please refrain from bracketing sizes that YOU have inserted into MY words

I have a healthy regard for weight

why am I on this thread??? ( to self!)

Onebat are you a size 12/-14 is that your issue?

NotanOtter · 04/04/2009 22:46

'fat' is your word not mine

(food) FIGHT, (food) FIGHT, (food) FIGHT

salome64 · 04/04/2009 22:57

Do none of you realise that the camera puts at least a stone on anyone? and the effect flash photography has on clothes? Get over it.

She's a nice, reasonably normal woman, doesn't thrust herself down our throats a la cherie, has had as many issues as the rest of us, lost a baby, has a child with CF, and just bloody gets on with it.

back off and deal with something a bit more important. Like how her husband has betrayed the whole country with his fiscal policies.

onebatmother · 04/04/2009 22:59

yes, I am a size 14, and I am five foot ten. Is that my 'issue'? It's rather odd and intrusive to ask - but to answer you, my 'issue' is with the pressure on women to judge themselves according to their appearance, which I think on this thread is being dressed up as concern for their health.

I think I'd have the same opinion were I a 10 (as I have been), or a 16 (as I have been).

piscesmoon · 04/04/2009 23:01

If SB was to go out and find an image consultant, get new make up, hair style and clothes and lose weight she would still get criticised-you could guarantee that at least 25% of mumsnet would make nasty comments. She might just as well do her own thing and please herself-she can't win!

did you see the question marks by the sizes, btw? They usually indicate a question, rather than a statement. I was wondering aloud, as it were, which size you would consider to be abnormally overweight.

piscesmoon · 04/04/2009 23:03

'Do none of you realise that the camera puts at least a stone on anyone? and the effect flash photography has on clothes?'

The Daily Mail printed a particularly unflattering picture-I expect they did it on purpose.

size 14 isn't overweight.

thanks pisces...(I think?
) DM specialises in humiliating photography of the chosen hate objet de jour...

onebatmother · 04/04/2009 23:13

I do think that constant self-denial bespeaks a feeling of unworthiness.

We should all eat a reasonable amount and do a reasonable amount of exercise.

We should not, I don't think, commnet publicly on another's appearance. It's rude and vulgar and - crucially - distracts from the important bits. That's why it's called 'the politics of distraction'.

It's also woman-hating, and from another woman, a bit.. sad.

NotanOtter · 04/04/2009 23:15

herbie

Yes in this instance i will admit to some jealousy

mini eggs are far superior to my fudges

Jelly babies are my sweet of choice but since being vegetarian 26 years ago i cannot eat them....

salome64 · 04/04/2009 23:28

Dissing someone's appearance who is at least neat and dressed with propriety shows little elegance of mind. She might not rock your world with her sartorial choices, but she does not offend. enough in my book.

Ronaldinhio · 04/04/2009 23:33

onebatmother and salome, I salute thee

NotanOtter · 04/04/2009 23:38

if gordon brown had too tight trousers on would none of you comment

NotanOtter · 04/04/2009 23:39

salome

she does not offend

this is a style thread

she did not look stylish
