Shallow I know, but Sarah Brown has appalling dress sense and a terrible figure.

FGS woman, loser a bit of weight and get some nice gear. You're supposed to be representing us.

OP posts:
reach4sky · 03/04/2009 11:52

Too long to search back but I saw at least 2 posters criticising her for giving up "work".

Bonsoir Anna's earlier post saying in essence that it was only people who had insecurities about their own appearance didn't like others being criticised is utter utter tosh. I'm a size 10 who dresses almost entirely in Marni, Prada and Bottega Veneta. I utterly loathe and despise others who make cheap and nasty jibes about others' appearances. I am mad about clothes and always have been. However I have plenty of fanstatically bright friends who don't give a fig about the way they look to understand that for a lot of people, it just does not matter.

Swedes · 03/04/2009 11:55

Anyway it sounds as though the OP has "hit the pool". I hope her swimsuit fits immaculately and is of a style that pleases everyone who might clap eyes on her.

Moondog - yes you are very shallow.

On the whole Sarah Browns dress sense is ok, maybe this outfit isn't the most flattering but there is nothing wrong with it.

There is nothing wrong with her weight. I would say she looks completely normal for some one who has gone through 3 pregnancies and 3 c-sections.

I have huge admiration for Sarah Brown. I am sure she is doing a lot of work in supporting Gordon and also charity work. At the same time I expect she is bringing her boys up very well out of the limelight.

I really wonder what it was like for the Blair children with both parents pursuing such high flying careers. There must have been some impact on family life.

I have never voted Labour and probably never will but I think Sarah Brown comes across as a very pleasant and intelligent person.

Judy1234 · 03/04/2009 12:37

Reach4sky, I think it was only Xenia (surprisingly eh?) who doesn't think supporting the PM, bringing up two children, doing fab work for charities is 'proper' work!"#

We want women as world leaders not glorified servants to husbands, clothes horses who sacrifice careers on the altar of their husban'd work. We want more male world leader consorts than female and only then will we have made proper progress and more women like Ms Booth who kept up her career despite her hsuabnd being PM, not Obama/Brown giving it all up to be glorified housewives and slaves. It's pathetic.

kittywise · 03/04/2009 12:38

What's c sections got to do with it?

You don't have to have a wobble stomach just because you've had babies, it's not obligatory

muffle · 03/04/2009 12:48

It is for some people. Some people have a saggy belly after babies no matter what they do - unless they have surgery, which some of us aren't into. And the older you are when you have children, the less likely to snap back. Plus, spending your entire life pursuing a flat stomach kind of eats into time you might want to spend on other things like childrearing, work and enjoying yourself. People like madonna, posh spice and Jordan choose to prioritise their flat stomachs - not everyone can, or wants to.

I thought the post c section overhang was a well known concept

I certainly have one

happywomble · 03/04/2009 12:59

Xenia - It would be good to see more women world leaders. However if your husband happens to be a world leader I don't think it is that practical to be a world leader too.

Some people see charity work and raising children as worthwhile. I feel sorry for you if you are unable to see the benefits of such choices.

Daffodingles2 · 03/04/2009 13:03

What a nasty thread
I opened the link and the first thing I thought was doesn't her hair look lovely and shiny, not OMG look at her small pot belly!
I personally think she looks better than MO. Who, incase you haven't noticed has buttoned up her cardigan incorrectly.

happywomble · 03/04/2009 13:03

Oh and to Xenia and the rest who are criticising Sarah Brown ..maybe if you had tragically lost your first child as she did you would choose to spend as much time as possible with your surviving children and not dump them with a full time nanny at 2 weeks old in order to pursue a career.
Your attitude is unbelievable.

reach4sky · 03/04/2009 13:11

Xenia, aren't you divorced? Do you ever sometimes wonder whether you're in the best position to dole out advice as to what is best for women and their families?

What's pathetic quite frankly is that you don't seem to value Sarah Brown's extensive charity work.

Syclla · 03/04/2009 13:19

The suit was a bit of a bad choice for her, but she looked lovely in the last link.

btw have had two c-sections and no overhang once I got back to pre-preg weight.

Syclla · 03/04/2009 13:23

and unbelievably I still enjoy my life, have fun with my dcs and eat nice food

Well, I think she looked blardy awful in that suit (bad choice - she often looks way better than this). I don't see anything wrong in saying that she looked dreadful - I'm not saying that SHE is dreadful.

Another thought - there's lots of rubbish on this thread along the lines of any woman who is slim after children must be some vain shallow uncaring mother who spends her time nibbling lettuce and doing sit-ups rather than cuddling her children. What nonsense - some people are just slim. I don't exercise and I am a size 10 who LOVES eating and have had two massive babies. So there.

MargaretMountford · 03/04/2009 13:30

what a mean, unpleasant op - you should be ashamed of yourself

Syclla · 03/04/2009 13:32

well said MmaGT

howtotellmum · 03/04/2009 13:48

I think she must just not possess one atom of personal vanity; anyone who is in the public eye will know that they are under a microscope all the time.

She looks frumpy, her clothes are all wrong for her figure, and yes, she needs to lose a stone or more to look better. She must have access to personal trainers (Gordo has one), the right food, and style gurus,- even a trip to a personal shopper at Selfridges, FGS, would help- but she mustn't care, or she is surrounded by people who don't dare say how she looks.

But that is MY view- it obviously aint hers, and she is entitled to look how she pleases.

QuantitativeMeasure · 03/04/2009 13:57

I like SB- she comes across as warm and 'real'- why should she be all dolled up?

She looks much more refreshing than that hideous creature Cherie Blair- all scrawny and fake.

happywomble · 03/04/2009 14:06

and better than posh spice who is so skinny I just want to give her a decent meal!

MargaretMountford · 03/04/2009 14:07

why must she lose a stone or more ?
