Shallow I know, but Sarah Brown has appalling dress sense and a terrible figure.

FGS woman, loser a bit of weight and get some nice gear. You're supposed to be representing us.

She's dressed appropriately though, she doesn't have a flair for fashion. She's not the kate moss of politicians' wives, but that doesn't mean that she's letting her husband or the British public down! Nothing to do with me! I'm Irish. Mary Cowen would make Sarah Brown look like Carla Bruni and she gets less stick!! Her husband gets the abuse, and that's proper order!

AitchTwoOh · 02/04/2009 22:00

oh i agree, moony, that she could be wearing a better-fitting suit and no kick flare skirt fgs when she's got a tum. although i did think she looked really nice when they went to visit the cancer charity.

but all the stuff about lose some weight etc, moony, that's a crock.

moondog · 02/04/2009 22:01

I never said I was perfect.
How odd to throw that one up.

I do know I'd put more thought into what my rear looked like in a frock if I was attending modest departmental Christmas party than SB obviously has for the bleeding G20!!

blouseenthusiast · 02/04/2009 22:03

I actually would feel more let down by Sarah B if she spent loads of money on stylists and did herself up like Carla Bruni. SHE IS ACTUALLY REALLY RATHER PRETTY. But it wouldn't matter if she wasn't, to me.

muffle · 02/04/2009 22:03

"I know that I take people who look smart at work much more seriously than those who aren't (prtic. if working with the public)"

God moondog I really don't! I admire well-dressed people for that alone - that that have a facility with clothes and look good - but I immediately warm to scruffy people.

Look at madonna. Looks great, but let's be honest - that doesn't make us think she's a lovely person or has an ounce of sense.

ItsMargotBeauregarde · 02/04/2009 22:03

moondog, ps, she married the man, who happens to be a politician.

i wouldn't stake an organ on Carla Bruni having done the same thing, but pretty sure SB actually married Gordon Brown the person.

moondog · 02/04/2009 22:04

'Though moondog I do worry that your OP could be seen by SB and it's not nice.'

Muffle,I'd be more worried if SB has nowt better to do than trawl internet to look for random folk passing thoughts on her gear.

I am convinced she is busier with more pressing matters, being the independent educated intelligent woman she is an' all.

She is clean and tidy, dressed appropriately and not fat-I don't see why we should expect more.

ItsMargotBeauregarde · 02/04/2009 22:07

I don't think she'd be hurt on a personal level. She'd despair that a bunch of intelligent women still couldn't resist the urge to trash a politician's wife.

I'm not perfect, I'd take a swipe at kerry katona for her velour tracksuits or madonna for working out TOO mcuh ... but fgs, Sarah Brown, she lost one child, another has cf, she has a bit too much perspective to stress about things which are small. And looking ten pounds thinner and having the chic-est dress, that's small stuff.

muffle · 02/04/2009 22:07

Moondog are you serious? Loads of MNers are educated, professional and independent - I certainly am, you are aren't you, yet you have nothing better to do at this moment... I don't think SB will be trawling the web for references to herself, I just think she may be an MNer.

(I don't know, btw, and I don't know her - I just think it's fairly likely)

ItsMargotBeauregarde · 02/04/2009 22:08

What do you do moondog? I thought you were a SALT? or is that pointydog!?

donnie · 02/04/2009 22:08

like I said - almost on a par with your 'I wish Richard Hammond had died' comments. Spiteful, nasty, envious and vindictive.

blouseenthusiast · 02/04/2009 22:09

In my profession, some of the people I respect most are really not very exciting dressers. In fact some of the dressiest members of my profession I know offer the least in terms of actual performance.

ItsMargotBeauregarde · 02/04/2009 22:10

Moondog, have you had a wee glass of wine? I sometimes get into cockfights I regret after a glash uv woine.

moondog · 02/04/2009 22:10

Now hang on Sal.
I am talking about professional people here.
Dressing nicely and smartly and with some thought and care passes a very important message to the people you are working with.

A lot of the people I work with have serious physical and/or difficulties. I've seen many staff go down the road of scruffy trackies and polonecks arguing that this is what they ned to do the job. What does that say about the values we place on our service users?

I visited a unit for children with severe Autism the other week. What struck me more than anything else was the fact that every single member of staff was dressed nicely. Not high fashion but with thoguht and care-bit of make up, nice accessories.

If I was a parent looking at educational provision that would say a huge amount to me.

Not every rude misogynist thing that gets said is funny...

ItsMargotBeauregarde · 02/04/2009 22:14

That's what struck you the most/?? You ARE drunk!! my son is autistic. I hope his SALT is not looking at my Whistles cardigan and my kitten heels.

MintyyAeroEgg · 02/04/2009 22:15

Its not odd to "throw that one up". Maybe some people would have a visceral reaction to your appearance MD? Sarah Brown is just a fucking person, she doesn't represent anything!

Personally, I don't really find blonde people attractive. I can't stand the look of dresses worn over jeans, or crocs or short sleeved swing jackets, or ballet pumps on adults, or bronzer, or people with very bad cellulite wearing skin tight white leggings, or any kind of facial piercing, or tattoos anywhere on anyone, or jeans half way down buttocks (either sex), or coloured shirts with a white collar, or gladiator sandals, or big shiny handbags, or the Hijab thingy where there is only a tiny slit for eyes, or any kind of tracksuit unless you are actually exercising, or Stokke pushchairs, or 4 x 4 cars, or babies with dummies.

But I would think myself horribly shallow if I couldn't see past any of that to the person underneath.

Habbibu · 02/04/2009 22:15

Moondog - I don't dispute that dressing professionally is important, but your OP did go way beyond that - you didn't like what SB wore; you find the fact that you can see a bit of stomach bulge aesthetically unpleasing. But she was wearing a smart suit - not to my taste or yours, but so what? So her intentions didn't meet what you thought ideal - she's hardly dressed in pjs and trainers with her hair in a pineapple, is she. OP was just way over the top and a bit - ridiculous, really.

Habbibu · 02/04/2009 22:17

But Anna has utterly out-bonkered you...

JustCallMeGoat · 02/04/2009 22:18

aside from the horrific shallowness (since when has that been banned on mn?) i think she look v. pretty in that picture, nice smile and good hair. i am guessing she has better things to do all day than 3 hours of pilates.

pmsl @ 'I think he should divorce her and marry Cheryl of Girls Aloud' quite ninah
