How many of you wear make up every day?

flippineck · 30/11/2008 21:56

I don'y, mostly because I'm lazy but also because I'm lucky that my skin is fairly good and I've never felt the need to cover it up. So I've never got in the habit.

Anyway, now I'm mid-30s, hit the dizzy heights of middle management, and not looking so hot (being 18 weeks pregnant). Is now the time to start making the effort? And what is the bare minimum I can get away with (and look better, iykwim)?

I do wear make up when I go out, and am pretty competent (if slightly conservative) at application, and I'm quite happy to buy decent brands.

Thought and suggestions? Thanks all!

I wear none, and I have worn none forever. I might lipgloss when I go out but thats about the size of it. I had a makeover once, hated it, all that shit on my face, I hated the feel of it on my skin, the look of it, it looked really wierd. Never again.

Suedonim · 01/12/2008 00:23

Always wear it when I go out.
Foundation/tinted moisturiser
Eyeliner
Eye shadow
Mascara but not all the time as eyes sensitive. Sometimes I have my lashes dyed.
Lipstick.

It doesn't take long and definitely improves me!

fanniiminogue · 01/12/2008 00:41

absolutely never, no time!

mumhadenough · 01/12/2008 00:51

Always, I have shit skin though.

I wear mineral powder foundation, volumising mascara, eye liner on bottom lids (only put liquid eyeliner on top lids if going somewhere nice). a little eyeshade, do full eyes if going out and I wear a 16 hour lipstick.

Doesn't take long in the morning, less than five minutes.

lispy · 01/12/2008 05:37

Yep, Dermalogica foundation, Napoleon Perdis black eyeliner (using the cake, brush and waterproof stuff so it never smudges) and Clinique black honey lipstick which I will rave about until everyone in the world has one - even my Granny now uses it! Makes your lips a couple of shades darker.

RoseOfTheOrient · 01/12/2008 05:53

lispy! thanks for the recommendation for black honey lippy - I just looked it up and its sounds fab! Will get myself some for Xmas...Keep raving - the rest of the world is waiting!

mylittlemousie · 01/12/2008 06:26

I don't think I've ever in my whole life spent 10 whole minutes putting makeup on - but then I am not a very girly girl. I jog to work, then spend about 5-10 minutes showering, getting changed, sorting out hair, and a quick bit of lip gloss and mascara. DD (2) cries if I put makeup on at other times - 'no work Mummy!'. Poor little thing.

nooka · 01/12/2008 06:36

I've never worn make up. I have some from a style consultation I went to, and can kind of see the point, but in general I am quite happy with the way my face looks naturally. I don not see any reason for wearing make up to work. My male colleagues don't after all. I expect people to judge me on what I achieve, not what I look like. I do have some pretty stunning clothes as a result of my style consultation, so I know how to make an impact if I want to, but on the whole I let my personality shine out unaided

lumpsdumps · 01/12/2008 07:28

yes wear it everyday, depends if I'm in work on how much I wear.

RamblingRosa · 01/12/2008 09:07

I wear it every day, including in hospital after giving birth. Ever since I was a teenager. Not sure if it's because I'm well groomed or if it's because I'm really insecure and think I look hideous without it! I'm pretty sure it's the latter!
Defintely wear less since having DD just because i don't have time in the mornings. I've also become one of those people who puts it on on the tube in the morning.
I'm always in awe of people who look naturally gorgeous without any make up

flippineck · 01/12/2008 09:27

Cali - I think I've managed about 3 times since September too!

Thanks all - it's reassuring that there are other people out there like me. I think DH would think I was having an affair or something if I suddenly started wearing makeup, so I might have to have a serious conversation with him first!

I'm not completely ungroomed, hands and nails are well maintained (though not varnished), adn I get my eyebrows shaped regularly, which I think really helps. Lip balm an essential.

I think I do however need something to even out my skin tone a bit. I love Benefit's Dr Feelgood under foundation, but it's a bit flat on its own. Tinted moisturiser sounds like a good option, will look at Laura Mercier, thanks for that suggestion.

I wear make-up every day as a matter of course. The only exception is when my skin is sore/sensitive and I need to give it a rest (this is very occasional).

If you aren't used to wearing make-up, have you thought about dying your eyelashes jet black and just using a dash of lipstick? And perhaps a little bronzing powder?

filthymindedvixen · 01/12/2008 09:35

I wear tinted moisturiser in winter and mascara and lipgloss as a minimum.

Most working days I manage 'subtle' full works. If I don't, people ask if I am unwell!

SilentTerror · 01/12/2008 11:46

Always.
Tesco 'soft focus' or 'face lift' illuminator/primer
Foundation l'oreal Infallible atm
Blusher-bourjois
Mascara-No 7
Lipgloss-Bobbi Brown
Takes me about 5 mins.
Will use eyeliner if going out at night

HeadFairy · 01/12/2008 11:48

I do, I'm currently going through a phase of trying out a few mineral foundations. I've got some dodgy bits of hyperpigmentation left over from my pregnancy so I need to cover it up, but I don't want to fill my pores with rubbish. I like the lily lolo ones at the moment. Not too shiny, quite natural looking and dead easy to apply. I always wear mascara no matter what as I've got blonde eyelashes, and usually a bit of eye liner too.

I wear it every day:

Estee lauder individualist foundation
Touche eclat
Benetint on cheeks
Bronzer
Chanel Mascara

Was ill all last week and wore NONE. I felt so scruffy and horrible.

Wallaroo · 01/12/2008 11:54

I don't but I used to wear it every day. I really should as I feel so unglamorous

BirdyArms · 01/12/2008 11:57

I do most days and definitely feel much better when I do, though I'm not sure that anyone else would actually be able to tell the difference. My usual is

Laura Mercier tinted mousturiser
Estee Lauder blusher stick thing
Blinc mascara - end up like a panda with anything else
Dark brown eyeshadow applied as eyeliner on top lid

Lizzylou · 01/12/2008 12:02

I do, normally just black mascara, bit of concealer and some bronzing powder.

If I'm not going out I don't bother. But I do scare people who come to the door then

I wear (nearly every day):

Mac mineralise powder in medium dark
Korres Blush or Pout blush
Mac Carbon eyeshadow as eyeliner
Lipgloss

that's it, if i'm going somewhere special I'll apply liquid eyeliner and mascara as well, and sometimes eyeshadow but not much.

Really recommend the Mac mineralise, its a pressed powder so not messy and really brightens up my face.

Annthecat · 01/12/2008 12:27

Yep every day. But my skin is blotchy and spot prone so I feel a need to. So I wear foundation, mascara, blusher and lip gloss or lipstick every day and eye liner and eyeshadow if I'm going out.

I would recommend Benefit make up, maybe not the foundation but blushers etc are great.

Ewe · 01/12/2008 12:30

I wear make up everyday at work:

Eye shadow - Mac, Bobbi Brown, Rimmel
Mascara - Lancome Oscillating - it's amazing!
Eyeliner - Rimmel (liquid) & Dior (pencil)
Touche Eclat - YSL
Bronzer/blush - Dior
Lip gloss - Clarins, Benefit, YSL

at weekends I wear it if out in the evening obviously and do wear it during the day, same as above but without eyeliner and eye shadow.

I could not imagine not wearing any make-up and always think people who don't wear it look a bit dull and lacking in effort.

Lemontart · 01/12/2008 12:35

no
I am not a sloth (dislike that idea Coagulate!)
Just happy with the way I look without makeup.

This is this strange belief by some that no make up also means that you make no effort with your appearance. Wrong. I am clean, don?t smell, love to wear perfume, do my hair carefully every day and try not to be too slobby in my clothes! My DH cannot stand women with makeup on - he says it reminds him of kid?s face paints. However subtle it is, still obvious to anyone with half eye sight fairly close up.

I do wear a little makeup if going out but as so rare I do feel rather self conscious which defeats the purpose a little!
