How many of you wear make up every day?

I don'y, mostly because I'm lazy but also because I'm lucky that my skin is fairly good and I've never felt the need to cover it up. So I've never got in the habit.

Anyway, now I'm mid-30s, hit the dizzy heights of middle management, and not looking so hot (being 18 weeks pregnant). Is now the time to start making the effort? And what is the bare minimum I can get away with (and look better, iykwim)?

I do wear make up when I go out, and am pretty competent (if slightly conservative) at application, and I'm quite happy to buy decent brands.

Thought and suggestions? Thanks all!

If you wear make up it helps protect your skin - this really is true. My somewhat strange mother encouraged me to wear make up every day from 14 and she does too - nothing really heavy but always foundation, unless it is really nice summer when use high spf instead, now I'm 52 and my skin is much better and less wrinkly than that of my friends who went without and especially those who spent a lot of time in the sun, now my mother is 83 and looks about 20 years younger. Also ( and when you get to about my age you can see these things)I know quite a few people who have over done the sun beds for 20 years or so and they look really old now - terrible skin and you get a dogs bottom mouth too if you smoke.

i don't but if i feel like it, i wear mascara, eye liner, blusher, nude lipgloss.

dh can't tell the diff if i am wearing makeup or not.

WotsThatSkippy · 02/12/2008 09:53

Nah.

Most days I don't wear any. I'm a SAHM and don't see the need to wear lippie for the school run, but then, I am not a big make up person, really.

If I go out, I wear a bit of concealer & bronzer, mascara and some lip gloss. I'm not one for trowelling on the foundation and think it starts to look pretty grim on older skin.

I disagree that people who wear make up are going to have better protected skin than non make up wearers. There are better ways to protect your skin than mask it with make up every day! As many people without make up will use decent cleansers and moisturisers as make up wearers. No make up does not mean dirty or lacking in personal hygiene or care!!

I wear a good moisturiser with a decent high SPF and hardly a wrinkly. My skin can breathe and stay much cleaner than if it were covered in make up. Not all make up helps protect your skin as not all of it has SPF built in either. In fact, make up can lead to health problems. Go to an eye hospital and they will tell you that they see women come in every single day with painful, infected and swollen red eyes thanks to bacterial infections from mascara.

I wear make up most days and I am very pale without it.

I tend to wear lots of virgin vie because I keep getting invited to parties and go and sit round eating nibbles and drinking wine and then get out the plastic. But I do like the body shop mascara I have got atm.

I wear make-up every day.
I use nivea satin sheen to moisturise and then decide whether to wear foundation (max factor) or not when that's done.

A touch of concealer under my eyes, liquid eyeliner on my top lids, max factor masterpiece mascara and lips depend on what I'm wearing, I have coral, pink and red lip glosses or just a touch of vaseline/blistex in this weather.

I think the good skin because of make-up thing is a red herring, some people just slap all their make-up on every morning without properly washing and moisturising their face. That won't help for spots and blemishes even if it does protect from the sun.

Wow - loads of responses!

Re makeup/skin condition etc: I have good skin, and I look after it (good moisuriser with SPF, clean properly and so on) BUT I'm actually quite sure that the main reason for having good skin is genetics. My sister, mum, grandmother and great grandmother (when she was alive) all have skin a lot like mine, and our skin care routines are very very different (mum and grandma v low maintenance, sister definitely quantity of slap over quality!)

Loving the look of the Black Honey lipstick, I could do that easily. But then when I remember I really like Juicy Tubes too.

I went out last night and wore a bit of make up: just my Dr Feelgood and as a base, bit of eyeshadow, my new Bad Gal Plum mascara (lovely!) and an anonymous. I do feel different when I wear make up I guess, like me but enhanced. Can I be bothered every day? Still not sure!

Does anyone know if Benefit Boi-ing or Erase Paste is any good as a primer to stop eyeshadow from creasing?
