Hello everyone, old and new.

This is about feeling better about yourself and looking and feeling better etc. But mainly we chat and laugh quite a lot, which has all got to help towards happiness etc.

The rules (anyone can join):

  • Sunscreen at all times
  • No or little booze. Wine or Champagne or whatever at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

Some people are doing India and Neris's Idiot Proof Diet (Atkins, more or less), others are doing Slimy World, others are just being as healthy as possible.

Welcome everyone, have a good week.

Well done to all the walkers. Why don't any of us wear our morons anymore I wonder? My battery ran out again and it's such a faff re-programming the whole thing. I may sort this out, I quite liked logging my daily step count.

I intended to go for a run this morning, but not only is it tipping down but I was woken in the wee small hours by DS1 with a cough, DD2 with a nightmare, DS2 twice for feeding and finally the dog blasting the bedroom door wide open because the drawing fire had gone out and he seeked a warmer spot. And the clocks have gone back. So I feel terrible.

I am cooking one of our chickens for lunch, it's a cockerel so all legs and not much breast but I'm going to roast it anyway. Will do Catalan chicken casserole with the remainder and make something to freeze for Archie as I'm on countdown to weaning!

Enjoy the wet weekend.

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 26/10/2008 10:01

We had the rain last night so tis quite dry here this morning. May walk myself later.

Had a nice dinner on Friday - up until I managed to smash a full glass of wine all over the table. I think I'm just mean't to be tea-total

Enjoy your chicken Norks. And enjoy your break www

Happy Sunday!

foxinsocks · 26/10/2008 12:37

I'm trying to install a new printer at the same time as windows is trying to download a new service pack which has meant I've been staring at the computer for an hour grrrr

and poor dh is not very well and has been packed off to bed (it's because he's got this week off, he always gets ill when he has leave!).

I went for a very (very) short run this morning (1km, yup v v short lol) and I nearly puked at the end of it so errm big thumbs down for fitness.

I won't even talk about food other than to say they had a 90p for 4 packets of big eat crisps at the garage and so I've gorged on 2 of the new lamb curry flavour ones (spew).

And while I was renewing the parking permit, the children ran off to the farmer's market. Came out and found they had befriended a farmer, were firing questions at him...so pleased was he to have someone showing an interest in farming that I now am the proud owner of the largest pumpkin I have ever seen. I don't even want to THINK how I am going to carve it (or eat the pumpkin inside!).

marina - hope your back gets better soon.

tigermoth · 26/10/2008 13:49

Marina, sympathies about your back - I didn't read your post till just now!

LoveAndSqualor · 26/10/2008 17:41

Hi everyone, waving from the north, where it is beautiful but FREEZING. Sympathies to the short of sleep; DS decided to get up at 3.45 this morning . The clocks went back an hour; he went back two. Admire his competitive spirit, but really ... if he does the same tonight I will weep. Good bootcamping though - walking, healthy food, water. WWW, foudn an old pot of Astral in the bag I brought up and thought of you! Slathered in it; I love the smell.

OK, DS methodically destroynig my stepdad's study, so must go ... steak and saute potatoes for tea tonight (crucial for energy after early start, I think ). Marina, hope the back is improving. Can recommend a chiro if not ...

WideWebWitch · 26/10/2008 20:14

Do we want a new thread people or would you all carry on here since it's half term and many people may be a bit crap?

L&S, sympathy on ds
Marina so sorry about your back, hope it's better soon and eek at injury caused by tights but I can well imagine!

Today I am so knackered I can't quite believe it, surely I ought to be feeling FAB by now? Dh reckons I need more time and it's down to walking (3.5 miles yesterday, 3 miles ish today) which seems a bit pathetic but has promised me lie in tomorrow so I am hoping I miraculously feel better after that. In the meantime:

today
4 pieces of toast, 3 with Marmite, 1 with peanut butter
some smoked salmon mousse left over from my birthday

and then we went to lovely friends and I had

roast pork
LOADS of crackling
green beans
asparagus
butternut squash and sweet potato
roast potatoes
gravy
cheese and biscuits

but I only had 2 v small glasses of Cava (over 5 hours, with food) as it really was dh's turn not to drive so that's something and I drank loads of water. So tired though, will certainly be in bed before 10pm, which is of course, 11 really.

Hope everyone's having a lovely weekend.

WideWebWitch · 26/10/2008 20:14

And L&S, I have just run out of Astral and must buy some more!

OP posts:
TheDuchessOfNorksDied · 26/10/2008 22:11

L&S what a horrible time to get woken up. Have you been able to have a nap?

The home-reared chicken was perfect. So I shall do the remaining cockerels this week and fill up the freezer. The hens of the same age have just started laying lovely little pullet eggs.

Apart from shifting some electric fencing I haven't done any exercise today. And I've eaten cake. But what else can one do on a wet Sunday?

And my body clock hasn't adjusted so I'm going to bed for a very early night.

screemie · 27/10/2008 11:20

Just spent two intense days singing at a workshop in London with dh. Fantastic music (Whitacre, Warlock and Gombert) and a crack choir.

My sister and Mum came down to look after dd & they all came to our sing-through yesterday afternoon & loved it. Nephews want to put Whitacre on their iPods.

So haven't thought about work or the house or any of the other things that were keeping me awake at night .

Not much bootcamping though - got to make up for it this week

Hope your back's better Marina

screemie · 27/10/2008 11:21

Crunchie

TheWickerCam · 27/10/2008 14:08

Have spent all morning revising ks3 maths with dd. My brian hurts.

Hope your back is better M, esp as its half-term.

My dd goes back to school on Thursday this week, so I will be able stop cooking the adolescent-sized lunches and go back to my cottage cheese

I have been remarkably wine-free recently, I think its because I'm needing to keep my brain in gear.

MavisGrind · 27/10/2008 20:31

Hello all, hope you had a good weekend.

I got the urge to bake so am now full of sugary cake. Don't care! Hands a little better since I moved my hand cream next to the kitchen sink and forcing myself to apply liberally.

Hope your back is on the mend Marina, I come from a family of weak backed people so you have my sympathy.

Hope you enjoyed your well deserved Monday lie in WWW!

Off to eat bread now - I really am going to be the size of a house by March

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 27/10/2008 20:44

Cam - who's Brian?

Hope your back feels better soon Marina.

Will you all think of us tomorrow please and send vibes? It's dd's big appointment and frankly I'm crapping myself.

Oh, very best of luck tomorrow saggars, will be thinking of you. Let us know how you both get on
Sobernow, whatever your day job is just now, you are wasted. Get yourself a book deal FFS
Poor old Brian, the Ghost of Mumsnet Past.
I have a cunning plan to organise a Bootcamp Event in December. I would prefer to do this offboard, so if you are interested, either CAT me or shout (as I have CAT) and I will do the honours.
It will be cheap, as most of the bootcampers I have the pleasure of knowing in RL are extremely broke
Goodish day, fixed back by walking at top speed for a change (week one of half-term was spent dawdling along with dd, but they are both in Holiday Club this week so I am back to powerwalking with Blowzabella blasting away on the iPod).
at Screemie's singing, sigh.
Am gulping slightly at duch "doing" the other cockerels, but also at home-reared organic fowl. You can get a studio flat round here for the price of Sheepdrove Organic Chicken!
Enjoy your proper half-terms, you lot. I actually missed the pair of them today!

ClaudiaSchiffer · 28/10/2008 06:36

Marina how is the back? Saggers good luck today.

Good food day, lots of juices still (yawn - am getting rather 'over' juice).

Walked into the village and back, way out good, way back rather ruined by screaming child. Unfortunately she was mine.

What are these 'morons' of which you speak Duchess? Pedometer? I would like to get one of those, I find I lose them after a short while, but when I use it it keys nicely into my competitive spirit.

foxinsocks · 28/10/2008 06:44

am sending vibes to you saggars

and have been giggling in a childish way at your London crack choir eemie . No seriously, it's lovely to be able to do something that completely takes your mind off all the other crap in life isn't it!

today is my last day at work this week! Have the rest of the week off and not a moment too soon. Of course, dh has chosen this time to become ill (yes, I know he didn't choose to be ill but you know what I mean)! Nonetheless, am looking forward to not commuting for 5 days and spending more than 5 minutes with the children.

must admit Duchess, am very impressed by your home reared chickens!

JJ · 28/10/2008 07:02

Marina, "You can get a studio flat round here for the price of Sheepdrove Organic Chicken!" - I might ask you more about this should worse come to worst here. [sigh]

Saggars, good luck, fingers and toes crossed and will be thinking of you.

Foxinsocks, I read something yesterday or the day before or maybe last week where I thought "Ooh, I agree with fis completely" but didn't post for whatever reason. Can't remember what or when or where it was but there you go.

Cake, crunchies, adolescent size lunches: all sound good but I am, as of yesterday, restraining myself. In theory at least. I gave into some Oreos. I'm not quite sure I'm up to juicing either (all I can think about is how hard juicers are to clean!). Did jog though and have achy legs to prove it.

WWW, hope you're enjoying your newfound freedom!

tigermoth · 28/10/2008 08:06

JJ, I'd love to have you as a neighbour You do know there's a new DLR station opening down the road from me next Feburary?

It looks like good walking weather for the next few days - cold and bracing.

Does anyone use the protect and perfect range from boots? Their handcream at £10.00 is about half the price of their nightcream but I find it works really well on my face.

I will CAT you Marina.

Good poem, Sobernow

WideWebWitch · 28/10/2008 09:14

Hello all, GOOD LUCK Saggars, come and let us know how you got on. FIS, enjoy! Sobernow, lovely poem, agree, you're wasted.

About to drive down the M1 to drop ds in London, yuk.

Lovely night last night involving Champagne and Cava and Merlin and smoked salmon, New York cheesecake and other yummy but not good for me food...and a lie in this morning. Have finally stopped feeling quite so tired behind my eyes, phew.

Hope Marina's back is easing.

OP posts:
CorpseBrideOfJohnCusack · 28/10/2008 09:49

I am waltzing in all timpsy after one glass of wine - which does rather prove how very little I drink nowadays.

I want to keep up with all you lovely people but Iam failing miserable. and I'm out the next 4 nights. maybe after that. hope you are all well. I think I need to collapse into bed

I might be coming to London in Jul/Agu next yuear so maybe you could do another bootcamp even then. or at least I coudl try and meet up with you at last Marina!

screemie · 28/10/2008 16:35

Shame on you foxinsocks

Well half term is here, I'm on holiday and...this is getting to be a habit...I'm ill, with muscle aches and shivers and that sinking feeling that heralds a stinking cold or similar.

And I have to go in to work tomorrow for something I can't delegate.

Off to get some paracetamol.

Did manage some good times with my sister though. Other sister arriving tomorrow

TheWickerCam · 28/10/2008 18:52

Hope all went well saggars.

Brian is a very old m/net joke.

Have emailed you Marina.

Dd and I spent today NOT revising, we do have some normal life, you know

We went out for lunch, I resisted pudding even when dd offered me her last profiterole.

I did have a very small glass of white though.

We didn't go by car but took the train and walked

Blackduck · 28/10/2008 19:11

DS with the grandparents this week, me back on the trainline that time forgot......Contracting where I used to work - same old, same old, confirmed I was RIGHT to leave...
WWW - it will take a while in my experience to fully relax - certainly did for me....
Water - better
Moisturise - I am being really good!
Eating well...
Happy - humm - missing ds and wondering why the hell I am doing this contract (Oh yes, the 'you'll end up in the poor house' side won....).
No drink - and do I feel better for it!
Finished series 4 of The Wire so no problem going to bed at a decent time.

TheDuchessOfNorksDied · 28/10/2008 19:42

arf @ fis. Hope deeeay 2 was better.

How did Saggars and MsSaggars get on today?

Marina, how's your crocked back? I hope you're wearing trousers and socks because you'll freeze in this weather with no tights on.

Lovely long dog walks, yesterday and today, up on the forest with eldest DCs racing around identifying fallen leaves, spotting deer tracks, fungi and dog poo . DS2 has enjoyed being wheeled about in his pushchair, whilst sitting up.

Had toasted crumpet dripping in butter for breakfast (eek) but very good the rest of the day. Everything else tick.
