Hello everyone, old and new.

This is about feeling better about yourself and looking and feeling better etc. But mainly we chat and laugh quite a lot, which has all got to help towards happiness etc.

The rules (anyone can join):

  • Sunscreen at all times
  • No or little booze. Wine or Champagne or whatever at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

Some people are doing India and Neris's Idiot Proof Diet (Atkins, more or less), others are doing Slimy World, others are just being as healthy as possible.

Welcome everyone, have a good week.

Happy Birthday www - how lovely must you be to workfor/with that even as a contractor you get cake and Chocolates.

Bootcamp, what bootcamp. Though I did manage to put up my punchbag at the weekend. Yesterdays exercise consisted of 10 minutes of taking out my frustration at dh on a big mindless bag hmmm...

Cammelia · 23/10/2008 14:27

HAPPY BIRTHDAY WWW

Cammelia · 23/10/2008 14:33

We went to see the Francis Bacon exhib at Tate Britain yesterday. I had 2 reactions to it:

  1. It was superb
  1. I felt as though I'd visited an abbatoir

Dd found it "disturbing" whereas her friend, who we took as well, "really liked it"

Dd did ask lots of questions re weighty topics such as homosexuality and suicide, so not a lightweight family outing by any means.

She eventually came to the conclusion that she feels sorry for FB.

Food? We ate a big lunch in the Restaurant, although I only had 1 glass of wine and shared a pudding with dh.

Exercise? Walked from Charing Cross station to Tate and back.

Marina · 23/10/2008 14:35

Happy birthday www! Enjoy your day XXX
(It has to be better than literally watching paint dry with dd, we painted one of those pestiferous little tea sets, grrrr)
Wishing everyone a healthy, happy Thursday!

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 23/10/2008 17:30

Happy birthday www. Have a lovely evening. Tis dd's 15th tomorrow We're going out to dinner and I shall have a glass of wine (the first in 10 days, natch) to celebrate.

Eniddo · 23/10/2008 17:32

"Am shivering around town rather than try on my Coat of Truth - have gained seven pounds but now lost 3 of them by going back to eating raw water (well, that's what it feels like).

Am juggling two jobs, two children and a spot of do-gooding voluntary work. You'd think I haven't got time to eat.

I am officially a grumpy old trout whatever time of the month it is - I'm only happy when I'm in bed, in the dark with no sound except the gentle snorting of my sleeping dds.

Everything dh says and does makes me want to leave him.

My hands are nice and soft, though. "

I WANT TO PRINT THAT OUT AND STICK IT ON MY FRIDGE

so so so funny

Eniddo · 23/10/2008 17:33

happy birthday www by the way - do you still drink champagne every night? xx

Eniddo · 23/10/2008 17:33

I was 42 in sept btw

I felt utterly shit and frumpy almost immediately after and the feeling hasn't gone away, don't expect it will now [resolute]

WWW, happy birthday! Make merry! Drink! Eat more cake!

Sobernow, agree with Enid - the punchline of the soft hands made me snort with laughter

I am not fit to be on this thread. I am not even fit to be in the vicinity of this thread. I shall say to you only: baby cinema, and a big bag of minstrels. I didn't finish the bag though. I think there are at least three left. What pains me most is that I know I'll eat them later.

Did take a v nice black wool dress in to be altered today though, which is both a) tenuously bootcampish in that it will make me look nice and b) economical, in these straitened times. Oh and c), can wear dress with opaque tights, thus solving legs problem of earlier post!

Off now to make mushroom omelette. mmmm. and knit. And put on handcream (winter wind taking its toll. My hands have aged about 10 years since having DS - dry and veiny, like I remember my grandma's being when I was little. No one told me about this. It is not in any of the baby books. )

WideWebWitch · 23/10/2008 19:48

Hello everyone, dashing through, gosh WHAT A lovely birthday I'm having!

Colleagues gave me lovely cake and flowers and chocolates and banners and balloons as already gone on about mentioned AND boss took me out for 2 hour lunch, lovely!

AND got home and not only had cleaner done a great job but dh and children had Champagne, Waitrose mini bites (smoked salmon and caviar blinis, that kind of thing) and petit fours all laid out - really gorgeous little mini bites like those cakes from Pret a Portea - and lovely presents: a Tiffany key ring (have always wanted one), some perfume, some great books of local walks, other great books including William Leith's new one about middle age (will report back on that) and a pac a mac for my forthcoming walks in the drizzle, some other fab books and, best of all, a pack of beautifully made personalised Pokemon sized cards with great pictures and things on them like: "this card entitles you to 2 hours of uninterupted mumsnet"; "this card turns your entire family into your slaves for 2 hours"; "this card gets you a Hollywood bath experience and complete peace and quiet for the duration of the bath" and others.

And a great black and white card which was four pics of ds and dd AND a handmade card from dd and ds. I am truly blessed. And now they've all just put The Full Monty sound track on and dh has just come down from his shower in just his dressing gown and boxers and done a quick spot of Full Monty-esqe striptease dancing, ha ha, it doesn't get better than this! And we will watch The Restaurant at 8 and drink some more Champagne and I will be asleep by half nine so will be ok for my last day at work.

Happy days!

And I know my work sagas are boring BUT I got called today about a 1 year contract SIX MILES from my house. Slightly lower rate but who cares? Fingers crossed for that one but if not, it doesn't matter, I get 2 months off. The freedom of not commuting is so close I can taste it!

Love to you all

Happy Birthday WWW, only the finest sparkly for you tonight.

Have read all posts but fuzzy brain prohibiting detailed responses. Arch has started waking up twice every night and I am a wreck. Bath and early to bed for me.

Hooray. It's nearly Friday. I've spent the week rushing about and not achieving as much as I'd hoped.

Exercise. Hahaha. Everything else OK.

TheDuchessOfNorksDied · 23/10/2008 19:59

www - if Carling made birthdays, they'd probably be like yours. What a gorgeous family you have.

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 23/10/2008 20:02

Sounds fab www. And well deserved.

if dh is sending the kids to bed he probably wants you to try on the porno bra again.

MavisGrind · 23/10/2008 20:07

WWW - your birthday sounds wonderful, I hope you enjoy the rest of your night. Your dh sounds fantastic - my 'd'h usually buys birthday cards and gifts on the day of my birthday and I have to wait for the glue to dry on the envelope before opening that evening....is it any wonder......

Not a bad bootcamp day but that is explained by the fact it's blowing a gale up here so haven't been out the house to buy chocolate supplies.

Anyone got any recommendations for hand cream? Mine are generally awful and I'm nicely sporting the SJP veiny look which only accentuates the dryness. I may have to go down the road of those elderly women who have had too much plastic surgery so have to disguise their liver spotted hands with permanent glove wearing.

DoNB, sympathies on Archie being up, I have to say I'm dreading all the night time stuff. I am not good without sleep.

duckyfuzz · 23/10/2008 20:25

www what a lovely birthday you're having, long may it continue!

A reasonable day here, although have had a glass of wine tonight, DTs exhausted and in bed by 6 and DH late home so quite a nice evening so far!

Mavis I use clarins hand cream which I find is fab, but also have much cheaper vaseline intensive care in kitchen

happy early nights to all

MrsSchadenfreude · 23/10/2008 21:42

Happy Birthday WWW!

Am having a drink for you! On second bottle of Rioja! Hic!

bundle · 23/10/2008 21:44

hand cream wise neutrogena fisherman stuff, surely?

Marina · 23/10/2008 21:44

What a blissful day www, and topped off with the possibility of a good local contract too. Fab
Bootcamp rubbish today, veritably a Hello Kitty slipper sock of an event. I blame my parents as I do need chocolate to recover from visiting them, bless them.
Plenty of water laced with vodka drunk.
Evening spent on excellent visit to stellar secondary school, marred only by dd's ingeniously abusive treatment of our long-suffering babysitter
Mavis, I can second the recommendation of Clarins, it is excellent stuff. You sound like you deserve a bit of extra pampering.
Dd is joining Archie in the Boot Camp Wakeful House of Horrors Duch
Welcome back Eniddo

bundle · 23/10/2008 21:47

oh and bootcamp Out The Window
(gurls @ hallloween disco tonight so I sought solace in a big spag bol and bottle of red - there is some left)

I did a lot of walking today and moisturised up. also fixed work stuff which is good as i'm off for half term next week.

lol @ sticking that up on fridge eniddo

screemie · 23/10/2008 22:04

Aaargh

Just wrote long post with birthday wishes for www, puppy musings for foo, sympathies for Mavis (the mention of Gaviscon gave me pregnancy flashbacks) but it's vanished.

Anyway, my big news for today is...

moonshine · 23/10/2008 22:06

Am I too late to say Happy Birthday WWW - I will anyway.

I will third the Clarins, but I also use Neutrogena (but still seem to be Madonna's hand-twin, despite not being lithe and scrawny and ten years' younger).

Can I also recommend M&S's magic wear tights? Very comfy and not bad for holding in a bulbous middle. But do not wear them on your hands.

Am slightly happier today. I really like my hair, 3 weeks after getting it cut (and am getting lots of compliments which helps), I am now off work for half-term, save for one day next week and, despite having no money, bought a dress and skirt in H&M which I am loving atm (hated their summer stuff). If you go to their website and sign up for the newsletter you can get 20% off one complete transaction. Happy shopping! (I still have to go up at least one size though there, grrrrr).

moonshine · 23/10/2008 22:09

Think I'd be having more than a beer - that's terrible eemie (btw love the Halloween name!)

Flum · 23/10/2008 22:10

QUICK !!!!!! Everyone check their nails... are they plain, are they chipped, do they need filing.

It takes 20 mins to file and polish.

I started doing mine regularly a few weeks ago and EVERYONE notices!
