Hello everyone, old and new.

This is about feeling better about yourself and looking and feeling better etc. But mainly we chat and laugh quite a lot, which has all got to help towards happiness etc.

The rules (anyone can join):

  • Sunscreen at all times - REALLY mean this now summer is here.
  • No or little booze. Wine or Champagne or whatever at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

Some people are doing India and Neris's Idiot Proof Diet (Atkins, more or less), others are doing Slimy World, others are just being as healthy as possible.

Welcome everyone, have a good week.

ooh looks lovely! Have a good champagne filled weekend!

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 11/07/2008 13:08

Have a fab time www.

Hello FIS. Eeek about the food poisoning but well done to dd on a good school report. We haven't had my dd's yet - I think it will come on the very last day.

Been thinking about JJ. Hope she and JJjr are doing OK.

Can sympathise about the dresses www. I too am a crap shopper. Actually it is helpful when I go with dd as she has a bit of the 'Goks' about her and makes me try things I wouldn't normally even look twice at.

ds's ID thing went OK. He thinks he recognised the ring leader from the line up and a couple of the others too. Haven't had official word yet though.

Have been to the gym again this morning .

WideWebWitch · 11/07/2008 13:13

Poor love Saggars (your ds), I hope he's ok.

foxinsocks · 11/07/2008 13:16

omg saggars

you and him are very brave going through all of that

how does he feel about it now?

tortoiseSHELL · 11/07/2008 13:17

Saggars - hope you and your ds are ok.

MrsThierryHenry · 11/07/2008 13:48

Hi, can I join this thread? Am permanently knackered and need some encouragement/ a laugh/ something to remind me to look after myself once in a while !

WideWebWitch · 11/07/2008 13:49

Course you can MrsTH! Welcome.

hello everyone, just checking in quickly. MIL died last night, after 6 months of illness which just seemed to deteriorate hugely the last few weeks. Poor FIL and DH and the kids.

Dh had his results last week (he had a lump on his testicle removed in April). They caught it at a very early stage and he is clear of it everywhere else, so no chemo or treatment needed . He will have check ups every 2 months for the next year.

It has been a shite few months and I hope he will be OK - I think he has kept going for so long and now it is all over.

WideWebWitch · 11/07/2008 13:56

Oh Cerys how sad about MIL but great about dh. Lots of sympathy to you all.

OP posts:
MrsThierryHenry · 11/07/2008 15:06

Cerys, I'm really sorry to hear of your heavy and painful times.

LoveAndSqualor · 11/07/2008 15:39

Oh Cerys, so sorry to hear about MIL, but wonderful news about DH.

WWW, have a fabulous time; looks glorious (they both do)

Batters, sympathise with FT working dilemma. I am currently in possession of my company's lengthy flexible working policy and application form, but from chat with HR person the other week, I get the distinct whiff of 'come back and do your job full-time, missy, or don't come back at all'. May be paranoia. We'll see.

Off to DP's parents' this weekend, which I am feeling middling about. Stuff with DP still very far from right; in fact, we're booked to go out together next thursday night to discuss, which I am really rather dreading. Hmmn. But on the plus side his parents cook the most amazing food (this may be the flimsiest sliver lining in the history of silver linings).

Have great weekends everyone - see you all on Monday ...

moonshine · 11/07/2008 17:04

L&S - good luck with 'summit' with dp - and amazing food is no small compensation for most of us I'm sure so enjoy.

Cerys - so sorry to hear about your mil, and what a time for your dh, but hope his silver lining offers some comfort.

Welcome to MrsTH (is that past scorned or future hopeful?)

I am a fully paid up member of the 'sh*t' at shopping' club, which is why I always end up buying and keeping lots of clothes which then suddenly look rubbish on after the label has been torn off and tentatively worn (sometimes just for a few minutes).

Ureb - have you been spying on my scales (you were right the first time ? Oh yes, when I was very large I had to convince myself that I looked fine in black baggy cover-alls and that it disguised my portliness. Of course anytime I caught sight of my reflection in a shop window etc proved that my one at home was lying to me.

It's probably be discussed to death on mn, if anyone has dared admit to reading the DM online (when I get bored at work I look at all the newspaper sites, honest), but I thought of WWW when I read an article this week about a woman whose 40th birthday present to her dh was sex every day for a year! Must have been WWW's bra/pants combo offering...[recoils in horror at thought of nuptials for 365 days on the trot.....)

Anyway, I digress...went to the gym despite (sneaks in whispered confession) being slightly hungover and knackered, and have thus been sensible with food despite a trip to the coffee shop after ds had his pre-school boosters. I did manage a successful non-putting on weight weekend once recently, just wish I could recreate how the hell that happened.

Have a good weekend all...

iBundle · 11/07/2008 17:10

www the menu looks lovely at threadneedles..mmmm

cerys, I'm so sorry about your MIL - and relieved about dh..x

moonshine · 11/07/2008 17:12

WWW - tribal top near bottom. Colours suit me I think and it feels lovely, although no doubt I will ruin it as I shall stick it in the washing machine and hope for the best!

As mentioned I thought I'd bought a lovely black dress from La Redoute, but now realise it makes me look about 10 feet wide!

eemie · 11/07/2008 18:32

Cerys, you must be exhausted and wrung out. Glad your dh isn't facing more treatment. You need to look after yourself in all this so good on you for coming back to this thread.

Welcome to Mrs TH.

I'm no advert for bootcamp this week. Worked too hard, not slept enough and only been so-so on healthy eating - but on plus side:-

-I've probably been better than I would've been without checking in here
-had some lovely walks including one in the downpour on Wed
-sunscreen on face every day
-lots of water/weak tea
-met two hefty deadlines & had a stunning success at work
-dh mended broken cupboard door (we will be issuing commemorative stamp)

Peaceful w/e to all

And Marina, yes please. Will do

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 11/07/2008 20:09

cerys - sorry to hear about your MIL. Jolly pleased re: DH though, it must be a huge relief.

hello fis & mrsth

saggars - well done your DS for going ahead with IDing.

eemie - that's a good list of plusses and @ commemorative stamp!

l&s - amazing food is not a flimsy silver lining! I hope discussions with your DH help sort things out, though a planned chat sounds a bit daunting to me (we're a yell and forget it type of household )!

Had pre-school end of term party today closely followed by an afternoon assembly at school so am feeling a bit broken. I rather stupidly chose to make a return to high heeled boots today and now my feet are paying for it.

I've eaten well and managed to drink plenty of water despite being so busy. Lots of compliments on my being slim so soon after baby, which was nice to hear. I did glam up today as being the Chair, I have to be up on stage and make a speech (through which I had to feed Archie )!!!

We have a pre-school BBQ on Sunday which will be bloody hard work but it's my last official event as Chair as I stand down at Septembers AGM. Yippeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Cammelia · 11/07/2008 20:38

All I can say today is that dd and I went to see the film Mamma Mia.

Cammelia · 11/07/2008 20:39

Sorry to hear about your MIL Cerys

yoyo · 11/07/2008 20:41

L&S - sorry to hear that things need discussing with DP. It really is a tough year with a baby so don't be too hard on yourselves.

Cerys - sorry to read about your MIL. How is DH coping? Really pleased that he needs no further treatment - a huge relief for you.

Moonshine - gym not good with a thick head. They always have really loud, crap music playing that not even the iPod drowns out when I am remotely fragile. Like a lot of stuff on your link including your top but I am hopeless even at shopping on line!

FIS - food poisoning nasty. Hope ypu are fully recovered.

EEmie - congrats on stunning success. Hope you are sleeping better now.

WWW - you had better be having a bloody good time as we are all incredibly envious. Trust taht DH will be enjoying his extra birthday present.

Marina - trust your scales although I found my food diary last week rather illuminating. Trainer found my "one cube of chocolate" very amusing.

DoNB - how are your nights going?

Saggars - how lucky to have your very own Gok! Hope DS is okay this evening - can't have been easy for him. I can see that shiny halo from here.

yoyo · 11/07/2008 20:49

Good day although early start with trainer and felt a bit teary when I was telling her about doctor, etc. Far easier being emotional with a relative stranger as I am putting on a brave face for everyone else.
Gym session was excellent. Am trying to keep heart rate fairly high throughout so moving quickly from one activity to the next.

DD2 has been a star this week. Her report was fab - she has real problems with spelling which she tries hard to overcome but she still had As for everything. She has also done her Grade 2 violin exam (first one she has done so she is not sure how she has fared althouh said she made quite a few mistakes). She also competed in a swimming gala and got a third and first. I am so pleased for her and she hasn't stopped grinning.

So the weekend beckons. I just read a Ruskin quote that said "there is no such thing as bad weather just different sorts of good weather". Hmm.

eemie · 12/07/2008 00:17

And Billy Connolly said 'there's no such thing as the wrong weather, only the wrong clothes'. And he's right, the wet walk with the puppy was brilliant because we were all wellied and proofed up.

unknownrebelbang · 12/07/2008 08:38

Good news about DH Cerys, but sorry to hear about MIL.

Sorry to hear things aren't great L&S. Good luck with the weekend, and discussions.

www hope you are having a fantastic time. I too am a crap shopper and have a wardrobe of similar items. DS2 is my Gok at home - maybe I should start taking him shopping with me?

That's good Saggars. Hope DS is ok.

at a school with no SATs etc. I do like the schools my boys attend, we've found both (the odd teacher aside) to be very good.

I've just realised...most of the friends I've made over the years there will be leaving alongside their children this time, even though DS3's got another year left.

unknownrebelbang · 12/07/2008 08:40

And feck, my scales have broken, and I know any new scales are going to weight heavier than the ones I've got.

I'd like to manage without, but as a daily weigher (I know I shouldn't) I just know I won't cope.
