Hello everyone, old and new.

This is about feeling better about yourself and looking and feeling better etc. But mainly we chat and laugh quite a lot, which has all got to help towards happiness etc.

The rules (anyone can join):

  • Sunscreen at all times - REALLY mean this now summer is here.
  • No or little booze. Wine or Champagne or whatever at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

Some people are doing India and Neris's Idiot Proof Diet (Atkins, more or less), others are doing Slimy World, others are just being as healthy as possible.

Welcome everyone, have a good week.

Ureb - well done to your DS. How does he feel about your request or is he not aware of it? He might surprise you with a newly-discovered love of learning.

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 09/07/2008 22:44

marina - I like the dress and may even buy it, v-neck very good for my norks.

ureb - I think you've done exactly the right thing re: DS2. And as you say, if his progress continues they will move him up anyway. We're getting reports next week and meeting next years teachers.

I am very hacked off with this rain. All those lovely size 12 clothes I bought last week are for dry & sunny days only and I have not shown off enough in them yet. Hmph! It was probably me buying summer clothes that hexed the weather.

Archie better today and after a scream-athon yesterday evening he slept from 11pm to 5am. I would have too but I am power-pumping (every 2 hours) to regain supply and it's rawther exhausting.

I can't remember breakfast. Lunch was cream cheese sandwich & a peach. Fish pie for dinner. Lots of apples, carrots, grapes and peppers.

Doing well on the Flexitol and now need a new tube. Moisturiser/sun screen yes. My hands have dried up despite copious amounts of handcream, will try and fit hand-pamper session into the weekend.

unknownrebelbang · 09/07/2008 22:44

He hasn't been informed yet, but he doesn't expect to be in the top sets anyway.

He may well surprise us, I would love for him to prove us wrong, but given his nature, we have to accept that there is a strong possibility that he won't and to be moved down a set so soon after starting really would destroy him, and in effect all the hard work he has put in this year.

Conversely DS3 would no doubt thrive - he's a different character.

unknownrebelbang · 09/07/2008 22:48

Thank you Duchess.

Whilst it was a relatively easy decision to make, it's played with my emotions somewhat.

Not helped by the constant emailing today between myself and a friend whose son was expecting three 5s, but "only" got 5, 5 and 4.

I had to walk away from the computer at one point.

unknownrebelbang · 09/07/2008 22:49

Ooh yes, I like that dress too Marina.

eemie · 09/07/2008 23:38

Yoyo - how are you feeling today?

We do have to move (I've re-thought every step in the dead of night). From where we are dd cannot get into an acceptable secondary school. We're going to an area where there's a good range of potentially suitable schools.

We're doing it now (start of Year 5) because if we leave it another year the move will be too close to secondary school selection/possibly 11+.

So we're not going through the discomfort for nothing .

arfishy · 10/07/2008 00:54

Hello All.

I'm STILL in Fiji [note to self: Go on holiday more often]. Robinson Crusoe Island was amazing. We spent the day collecting hermit crabs and watching fire dancing and drinking cocktails and splashing in the clear blue seas etc etc etc.

The man in the tree is collecting coconuts after shinning up without the aid of a ladder/scaffolding/rope&pulley system.

Chutney - The food is Indian (from the Indo-Fijian side) and sort of chicken/rice/stir-fry/fresh fruit. It's delicious and I'm eating far too much of it.

LOL at WWW's PVC combo and letching DH.

Hope Archie's 6 week spurt is over quickly for you and how outrageous of your DH to leave the house Duchess, and that your Dad is doing ok Marina. Prufrock - I love your dress .

Now. How early is too early for a banana daquiri? [ignores impending WW weigh-in]

SheikYerbouti · 10/07/2008 07:03

Batts, yes, tis I. I am starting to ruin out of inspiration now, and I really want to stick at it! (intergalacticwalrus @ hotmail . com)

ureb - I absolutely think you've made the right decision. Both of my boys were in a similar situation and it did them the world of good to be in a set where they were towards the top rather than struggling at the bottom with the threat of going down. ds1 (late August born) worked particuarly hard to achieve 3 fours at KS2 Sats in a high achieving primary. He was an average child but spent most of his primary years thinking he was thick because the rest of his class were very bright. Did his confidence no good whatsoever.

On the bootcamp front, I ran yesterday, gym today but feel knackered and still have to bike home from work as dh needs the car. Ds2 has his ID thing this afternoon. Am drinking plenty but lax on lotions and potions. Stress levels in the red zone.....but only 11 days (and counting) to Portugal.

Batters 6 dress sizes?? Wow! And work full-time? Why would you? ( [idle cow emoticon] me obviously, not you)

Power pumping doesn't sound fun Norks.

Sheik - well done on the 2lbs. It's not to be sniffed at.

Fiji

Prufrock · 10/07/2008 10:55

duch - I used to pump for 5 minutes after dd had finished eating - She would pretty much drain one breast but only half-heartedly suck at the other so I would get lots out and stimulate supply.
Batters why fulltime? Would it mean more interesting work or is it just si you can escape from the horrors of a nearly teenage daughter
Ureb, well done to your ds, and I think you've made exactly the right decision. Devastating for anyone to be moved down - my Y8 maths teacher wanted to move me down (which was only because she didn't like me -granted I was a cocky little twat) and I remember being so upset, I missed the exam because I was ill and the cow estimated me at 70% - which was ridiculous as I got 98% in Y7, and went onto get 96% in Y9

Prufrock · 10/07/2008 11:01

I had my stitches out yesterday, and preceded the appointment with a trip to Primark (we don't have one here). Now I know all the clothes have probably ben made in Bangladeshi sweatshop, but OMG it's good. I got 30 items of nork revealing apparel for £103!

Did sin with lunch yesterday consisting of a slice of Starbucks blueberry cheesecake and a venti latte, and scampi and chips for dinner. But for my mid afternoon snack (blueberry cheesecake is yummy but not v. filling) I chose a mozzarella and tomato salad and a raspberry smoothie instead of a ham and emmental baguette and coke.

And I get to exercise next Wednesday /?

LoveAndSqualor · 10/07/2008 11:58

Hey all, apologies for absence - busy week at the Squalor residence, and DS being particularly demanding. Scanning the thread, I note several lovely dresses, one heck of a bra and pants set and an frankly splendid pair of norks (which I admire wistfully, DS having pretty much put paid to mine, I fear).

Ureb, sounds like a tricky decision, and I quite see the reasoning behind what you've gone for. Well done to your DS!

I've been doing quite a bit of work this week, while DS has been napping in the mornings (hence slowdown in MNing!) which has been very nice - good to use my brain again. Have been eating fairly healthily and am about to go out to baby-yoga, which feels highly bootcamp-y. Back on later to catch up properly.

SheikYerbouti · 10/07/2008 16:20

arse Batts, its hotmail.co.uk

moonshine · 10/07/2008 17:26

Hey, don't knock the 2lbs off Sheik. Better off than on, etc etc.

Am feeling nervous at all this talk of exams and pressure for dcs who are still not very old. Ureb - it's always better to be 'top of the tree' so to speak, imo, so it sounds like you have done the right thing.

Yoyo - I think with interval training it will pay dividends in the long run (geddit?). And it's hard to chew over worries when you are completely knackered I find - hopefully I shall get in another session tomorrow morning.

Bootcamp good this week. Eating fairly sensibly. No alcohol (yet). Lots of body exfoliation and creaming.

Am still taking the anti-red mist pills and doing so regularly, but have about 2 weeks before I can assess if the last pms experience was a fluke.

And got my Ghost and Boden order. Finally got a sleeved summer top from Ghost but shall send back the Boden stuff. One dress fits beautifully (even dh said so ) but with the lack of a summer and because I so prefer autumn winter clothes. I've decided to put the money towards a new season wardrobe that fits and doesn't sit expectantly in the wardrobe waiting for me to lose weight to wear it[hopeful emoticon].

Batters - do you ever try on any of your old clothes? I occasionally wear a t-shirt which is about 5 sizes too big for me just to remind myself how it used to cling to me (and I thought it looked ok on me!)

WideWebWitch · 10/07/2008 20:57

Hello everyone!

Glad teacher agreed unreb

eemie, sympathy in advance re 11+ stuff. I will be beside myself from when he takes it (Oct) to when we get the results in Nov as otherwise we're paying.

Prufrock, glad your stitches came out and your clohthes shop was fruitful, ditto Moonshine on the Ghost top, link please!

MrWWW got a new wallet, a butchers apron, a cd, an Empire subscription, chocolates, a pyjama top and a man bag which he's not sure about but there you go. And a birthday tea and cake with 32 candles.

Arfy, when one is in Fiji one can have a daquiri whenever one damn well likes imo!

Breakfast, 3 sausages

and ds had ENORMOUS strop tonight which has made me look forward to tomorrow even more. Gah. And we weren't even asking him to do homework, just to not taunt his sister.

Packed my five new black identical La Redoute dresses plus porno bra combo, obv, shame to waste it and we're now packed and are all ready.

Anyhow, ROLL ON TOMORROW. This time tomorrow I will be sipping Champagne and looking forward to a loooooooooooong sleep.

unknownrebelbang · 10/07/2008 21:58

Well done Sheikh.

Belated happy birthday mrwww. Have a wonderful weekend. Have I missed something, five identical frocks?

Thank you all for your support re DS2. The irony Saggars, is that both DS1 and DS3 are August-born and they both do very well academically, DS2 (autumn-born and not at all academic) sandwiched in the middle. So he follows in one's footsteps, and gets overshadowed by the other (in the same class too). They also attend a high-achieving small primary, so it magnifies everything.

Did I say I hate SATs?

DH reckons he's going to throw me back to full-time working when he retires...

Moonshine - don't you find, when you're larger, anything that fits HAS to look ok, iykwim.

unknownrebelbang · 10/07/2008 21:58

Moonshine, that should read when you were larger?

unknownrebelbang · 10/07/2008 22:09
  • Sunscreen yy
  • No booze.
  • Just the twister.
  • Lots of water/weak tea.
  • Apply body cream - lax.
  • Use hand cream - lax.
  • Go to bed early - midnightish.
  • Eat healthily - not bad apart from some chocolate this evening.
  • Be happy - have had a lovely day today. It was the school assembly which Sebastian Coe attended. The main part was a montage of photos/videos of the sports "stars" of the school with a running commentary by Gerald Sinstadt (who interviewed the pupils the other day) followed by a speech by Seb Coe. The sporting pupils then spent 3/4 hour talking to Lord "call me Seb" about their sports/achievements.

DS2 also spent the day at the high school and he has had a great time, made even better by the fact that his form tutor will be the head of PE (DS2 loves sports).

Apparently lots of girls kept asking him if he was rebel1's brother and going "oooh".

unknownrebelbang · 10/07/2008 22:33

Conversation overheard by DH, whilst waiting for me outside school.

Group of yr10 girls.

"This Seb Coe, what's he look like?"

"ooh dunno, but he's 52 so he must be ancient".

Oh to be 15 again...

Marina · 11/07/2008 09:35

LOL at the ageist tyranny of the 15 year old ureb. There is a chilling story about how the younger generation views all us mummies in Helen Simpson's Hey Yeah Right Get a Life, which I think some of the boys on this thread may have been consulting...
I worry slightly about dd, who may be as sharp as a case of knives where her human rights are concerned, but is possibly not going to be an academic high flyer like ds - so I hear what you are saying about your middle boy. We were fortunate to be able to throw cash (or debt) at the issue and send both to a smashing little independent primary which is a SATs, NC and NLS/NNS free-zone. Each child is genuinely valued there and that's easy for them to do because they do not have an eye on the league tables.
Anyhoo
Good day yesterday - no weight loss again this week pace SlimyWorld's scales but I am not too sad as I have definitely lost according to my own scales at home. To be on the safe side I am keeping a food diary to show to teacher next week.
Eemie, I have no idea where you are thinking of moving and suspect it is not SE of the river, but if it is and you want some off-board scuttlebut CAT me Good luck with it all.
Moonshine, I will definitely be keeping some BIG OLD KIT this time as a horrible warning.
Sorry I missed the chance to wish a v. happy birthday to mrwww, and hope you have a superb weekend both of you. How nice to step away from the offspring!
LAS, you are allowed a pass-out as long as the news is positive when you next check in - you sound a lot happier about things this week great news about ds sleeping better
Batters, you know my views on f/t working - it's a grind, tbh. Mail me and I'll talk you down off the ledge . Seriously, there are cash pros and everything else cons, as thou knowest. Is this a gear-up for September 2010 perchance?
Duchess, I hope the milk/baby balance is levelling out - and Yoyo, have been thinking of you
Have a good day all - am well and truly in the Countdown to the Hols zone and wearing a jolly aqua cardigan to feel Mediterranean...

foxinsocks · 11/07/2008 09:46

hello everyone, long time no see

I can't remember the last time I was on here but it's been totally mad at work grrr and then to top it all off, I got food poisoning last week, took a day off then had to drag my sorry sick arse back into work the next day because the VAT auditors were determined to come in. Sigh. So I have extreme work fatigue and am counting the days down to my leave in August!

Anyway, very pleasingly, dd, who we have been called in to school for a few times and given extra work (due to poor writing) and had v v difficult parents evening, got a really good school report so I'm so delighted for her.

I also think our nanny has played a part in this as she's ever so good at getting them to do their homework properly and all their reading . I told her this and thanked her and she blushed bright red and looked all teary!

So other than that, no news really. We have builders in the house so it's all totally mad and I'm starting to dream of no work, no builders, no school and a beach!

I now need to go back and read the thread and see how you are all doing!

WideWebWitch · 11/07/2008 11:55

Ureb, The 5 identical frocks thing is that I am shit at buying clothes. All I own is rows and rows of long black skirts and black tops and now, when I attempted a slight departure from that, several black dresses! I need to go to a personal shopper when I?m thinner. Glad you had a lovely day but omg at 52 being ancient!
Marina, if your scales show a loss then it?s a loss iyswim, as you?re measuring on the same scales every week.
Batters, I agree about the ft working, don?t do it if you can possibly help it. But I understand the dilemma, sympathy.

FIS! I have been periodically saying ?where is FIS?? and this is the first reply. Sorry to hear of D&V and VAT inspectors, now there are 2 horrible things in one sentence!

I cannot wait until 5.15pm when I will be in the hotel

Work is easy

Had 2 sausages for breakfast
Have had salami and cheese as a snack
Have smoked salmon and boursin wraps for lunch
Have used sunscreen
Not drinking enough water, must improve

Happy Friday everyone!
